The other day I was thinking about the Halo Universe and thought wouldn’t a RPG/MMO be cool idea being you start from a recruit/cadet at a academy as you level elevate you go the marine ODST Spartan or more like a Commander of your own ship making choices of where you want to go personally in you UNSC Career I think it’s a really cool idea my opinion is would provide people with a new prospective of the Halo Universe.
I’m interested to hear what people think of this idea it’s something myself and i’m sure a few of my friends would really find interesting.

People often bring this up. I say the same thing every time. Nope.
A game the scale of that isn’t a problem. It’s the story. With so many players taking a different path, the entire game would have to be non canon.
Don’t be so quick to dismiss this. It could work if you started off from a grunt perspective. ie a brand new human recruit to the UNSC or any covenant species, you could even drag in the human rebellion side. As you progressed missions could be run that haven’t even been written about before, but you could also tie them in to cannon. All it would take is someone who knows the Halo Universe inside out to tie it all together. In a similar way that the Star Wars books and all the inter arcing stories are held together by the researchers that work behind the scenes and when you think there are well over 100 books that are considered cannon in that franchise, I don’t think it would be such a problem for Halo

You didn’t listen to Onyx81’s point did you? The fact that there would be so many choices would lead to so many outcomes. With so many players reaching so many DIFFERENT outcomes because of the choices they made, the game would have to be non-canon. An example could be Mass Effect which doesn’t have a canon set of events. Your choices are canon. That’s why fans are struggling to think of where Mass Effect 4 could go because there is no canon ending.
A Halo MMORPGFPS could work. Being a PC gamer who has some experience with MMOs I could provide some insight. The first thing you need know is that you are often broken out of immersion because you realize there are hundreds of players doing the same exact thing in the game world you share with them. MMOs can also be a slog to get through, one must invest vast sums of time to be successful and do endgame content . MMOs also have to make some compromises on gameplay although that is much less of an issue now as demonstrated by games like Planetside 2 and Defiance. Now onto the story and lore aspect . It would be possible to make a MMO cannon. It would require some work through. Choices would have to be more limited and endings set. Time period would also be an issue in the Halo universe. You could not put in the height of the Human-Covenant war which is okay since that is explored extensively. You could have a game about the human rebellion and the very beginning of the Human-Covenant war. It would probably be easier and more interesting to have something set before the Human-Forerunner war.

I don’t understand why “quick dismissal” means that what was said wasn’t fully understood. He correctly stated it wouldn’t work out and then explained why.
I’ve seen canon details of events handled before. Particularly in Star wars Galaxies. The full Canon aspects of the game are handled by saying Spacers were the ones who did it. Which for a Halo Rpg/MMO it could state that said event was done by a particular squad of UNSC/Covie.
As a game it would give an oppurtunity to display aspects of the Canon that have not been dealt with too much. Such as the Culture and daily life of the Covenant.
Plus, the concept grips me for the possibility of playing as Marines, ODSTs, Grunts, Jackals, etc. Which would go hand in hand with massive battlefields for the factions to squabble over. Let some UNSC Navy pilot fly an army of UNSC Marines into the covenant base area occupied by Grunt and Elite players manning AA guns.
Thank you finally somebody who is not so close minded it’s a great idea and I understand it is different but doesn’t anyone like different anymore? have we really settled into this hole playing the same game over and over I love Halo I’ve played them all but providing us with something else outside of the core game opens up so many new opportunities.
I mean, just questing like in World of Warcraft wouldn’t pay proper homage to the Halo Universe. Have you seen Halo: Forward Unto Dawn? I was thinking that the ‘quests’ could be mission simulations, and eventually work up to real missions. Also occasionally, very rarely, random events could happen, for example an invasion of Covenant forces, these rare events could be a chance for players to get rare loot, however when I say rarely, I mean rare. You can’t just have an invasion every day, I’m thinking that statistically 1 player out 100 would get an invasion in a time span of a week. If there were 10,000 active players, only 100 people that week would get an invasion, approximately, It is random after all. Thoughts?
