I am always, like ALWAYS, excited for new Halo books, regardless of who’s writing them or how they end up being. Its my second all time favorite literature series, behind Harry Potter, but longest read. After I read the plot synopsis in the newest Community Update, a question popped into my head: is Halo: Retribution something like a spiritual sequel to Last Light? I am really excited for the return of Veta Lopis, even though this is yet another pre Halo 4 story (come on 343…more stuff in between 4 and 5 and post 5 plz), if I am correct. If its not, no matter to me. I loved Last Light. It brought something fresh to the canon and gave us a great character to expand on in Veta. Its one of my favorite 343 era books, up with Thursday War, Mortal Dictata (yes I know…don’t judge me ), and Silentenium.
PS: I bet The Lord of the Rings will take my top spot once I finish reading them…eventually. For now Harry and Halo reign.
Ahh many thanks.
Lol his comment about “characters getting to cuss” in a Halo book over Star Wars. I don’t like swearing in writing; I try reading over those words. Some, though, not all. There’s a few words I am used to reading.
Guess this makes my post completely irrelevant LUL.

Haha, no worries, mate. I haven’t read many of the new novels (only New Blood) and the cussing is at a bare minimum, so I wouldn’t worry too much. I feel like it usually just adds an extra punch to things from time to time and maybe adds a bit of realism too, so I don’t mind it. Especially when dealing with high-powered super soldiers
I love the term “Spiritual successor.” That’s a good description of Halo: Retribution. It’s a standalone tale set after Last Light, and it definitely reflects what happened in Last Light without being a continuation of that story.

Wait…hold up a moment. Are you THE real Troy Denning?? Have to ask haha.
Seems more like a sequel, since all of the characters from before are returning and Blue’s showing up again.
Only people we’d be missing would be Tom and Lucy (off doing things in the new Onyx book if I had to guess).

Well damn, OP.
If this is the actual author, I think you just got the best answer possible.

For TroyDenning, since you’re here (still I hope), have you thought of writing more Star Wars books? I don’t believe I’ve read any of yours, but from what Wikipedia says you haven’t released a SW book in four years.
Woah, cool! Mr. Denning, I’ve read quite a few of your works, especially the Star Wars series and I LOVE them with my favorite being Invincible. I finished Last Light when it was released in 2015 and knew you’d bring the same kind of thing to the Halo universe. I cannot wait to read Retribution when it comes out! Veta , Castor and the Ferrets are some of my favorite characters in the books and it seems as if they have some unfinished business. It would be awesome if you had made a series of sorts that describes their other “classified” missions and how they work as a dysfunctional family of sorts.
I have to ask though, where did you get the inspiration for the stuff on Gao? I am writing a fanfiction dealing on the aftermath of what happens on the planet after LL when I found out Retribution will likely explain some of it. Just curious because I plan to continue writing it to the end and don’t want to fall out of line
Thanks for the kind words, GH. I haven’t really thought about where the inspiration for Gao came from; it just spilled out of my head that way. I guess, physically, the only semi-jungle I’ve ever visited was Dominica (in the Caribbean), so that’s probably where a lot of the descriptions came from. But the culture was totally different, so I’d have to say that the culture is pretty much straight imagination.
Anyway, I’m flattered that you enjoyed LL enough to write some fanfic about it. Have fun with it!

I hope you don’t mind me, and the others if they so wish to, ask more questions. I’m really enjoying this
What is/are your favorite Halo book or books before Last Light? Are there other areas you want to explore in Halo if you write more? I apologize for a generic sounding question; I’m curious.

I’ve enjoyed most of the halo books and comics, but it wouldn’t be appropriate to name favorites. And, yeah, there are lot of areas in Halo that I’d like to explore (and new ones I’d like to create). I wish I could say more, but I probably shouldn’t comment on those, either.

Understandable. Cool!
Edit: Say…I think it would be really cool if you and Timothy Zahn collaborated on a Halo book. Or more than one. I don’t know how that works to be honest.
