I just got Halo Reach and was wondering if anyone could explain to me why in the middle of a match it will pause it and say connecting to a new host.
Reach operates on a P2P model of matchmaking - that’s player to player. When players are matched up 1 player is chosen to be the ‘host’ of the match, which is why you can have great matches if the host has a good connection or bad matches if the host has a poor connection (lagging / teleporting / rubber banding). If the host drops out or leaves, there is a short pause while another host is selected for the game
They don’t use dedicated servers anymore.

Reach never used dedicated server, on MCC and Halo 5 have had deds for matchmaking. MCC kept P2P as a fallback
