According to Halopedia, Halo: Reach has a total of 11 original Armor Permutations. That is, items not redesigned or ripped from Halo 3.
Halo 5 has roughly 44 original Armor Permutations. That is, items not taken from any previous Halo title.
Just thought I’d make this thread for statistics purposes. You can use the links provided to do your own analysis on the quality of the original items. Personally, I think that most of Reach’s original armor permutations were high-quality, whereas Halo 5’s original armor items range from high-quality to absolute garbage.

Too bad 343 designs suck balls. They only have like maybe 3-5 armor sets that actually look good. Reach had the benefit of that the armor had standard a design to stick with and just add pouches or straps to it. Where as 343 thinks ever armor permutation needs to be some special snowflake with just rand curves, bevels and pointy things. Also Black under suits go a long way.
Halo 5 may have more armor but its way worse looking then Halo Reach. I would rather have less armor permutations for better quality armor then a couple hundred.
Even having mediocre armor is okay, provided you can customize the shoulders and whatnot. It’s a good thing I don’t play Halo for the armor, though. It doesn’t bother me too much.

Definetly agreed! And black undersuits must return!

Wow the black makes a huge difference…I want this more than ever now
Quality beats quantity. Halo 5’s armor designs are trash. They don’t even look like MJOLNIR armor. I loved the design of Halo: Reach’s armor, being that it was based somewhat on the original Mark V armor, and it had that cool militarized look about it.
Also, Halo: Reach has black bodysuits. Big plus there. I hate that Halo 4 and Halo 5 force you to run around in colored undies.
I went through the list to confirm that almost the entire selection of armour is actually decently designed and you all may need to have your nostalgia goggles surgically removed.
Yes, there are a few iffy ones like seeker, and a lot of them suffer from the unfortunate white paint stains, but looking at the armour shape itself and judging from that instead of blindly going “nope, not Bungie so I hate it all” is pretty crap of you.

I got reach after halo 5 yet I think reach’s armors are leagues above halo 5’s

Oh man, now that you have confirmed the truth about this highly subjective opinion, I suddenly love all of Halo 5’s armour! Thank you so much for changing my mind by confirming that the armour is decently designed, I am no longer held back by my former opinion that was obviously wrong! It was ridiculous of me to prefer one artistic style above another, after all, and it was clearly clouded by nostalgia goggles.
Good sir, could you please confirm to me that the campaign in Halo 5 was the best of the series as well? I would love to have my nostalgia goggles removed by your discrediting of that personal opinion as well!

Opinions are never exactly wrong, just conflicting usually.

I feel compelled to explain that I was being sarcastic :
I was being sarcastic. I still dislike 95% of Halo 5’s armour.

Let’s see, I like recruit, Mark VI, Centurion, Mark IV, Copperhead, and most of the Noble team armor’s. That’s so many of the 300 or so of the armor sets. The rest are either ugly or are instantly invalidated as options by their mismatched secondary color darkness or their unchangeable white/blue/green lines. All of the choices listed are also the base variants of the armor (ex. Not Mark IV Arcadia, just Mark IV.)
Helljumper, Hunter, and Security would make it on to the list if they didn’t have one of the aforementioned issues.

Thank you even with 343 questionable designs at least the black undersuits even make them look better.
