As all Reach players know, the Skirmisher class of Kig-Yar are only in one game. It was said that they somehow became extinct. I want to hear your thoughts; what do you think in lore happened to them.
They could have been a small sect that was only aboard the ship(s) that made it to Reach. If they did make the jump to the Halo ring, they may have just landed elsewhere and not come into contact with Chief. Or they could have stayed in orbit. Maybe whatever was left of them died on Reach.
They made an appearance in the Kilo Five Trilogy as well, so anything that happened to them would have to be after the events of those books.
Basically they have such a small population that they don’t see widespread deployment. They’re not extinct, but their numbers certainly took a heavy hit on Reach so they’ve most likely been repopulating.
Design wise, I honestly feel as though the Skirmishers should just be made the canon Jackals. The design is incredible (but then again, Reach absolutely nailed the art design and should have been where 343i pulled the 'modern’d designs from instead of trying to erase Bungie’s influence from the franchise and utterly failing at making anything that looks good), they’re not just hiding behind shields or shooting sniper rifles and carbines and thus allow for more gameplay variation (just let them throw grenades because that never made much sense) and call it good.
