Dear Bungie:
I have been playing “Halo” for the past 10 years. Halo 1 - Awesome. Halo 2 - Best game ever made. Halo 3 - Enjoyable as well. Halo: Reach - different, but fun.
The most alluring aspect of Matchmaking in H2/H3 was rank.
I am curious to know for what good reason “rank” was ripped out of Halo: Reach and replaced with a silly credit piggy bank system that just about every other game has?
Halo was unique because people could go down in rank and at a certain point it becomes very difficult to rank up. Why does Call of Duty suck? Because they want you to re-play the game 50 times, earning “points”. Noobs are grouped with skilled players. And everyone ranks up.
What’s the difference between a skilled player and a noob on Halo: Reach?
It takes a noob twice as long to get to Inheritor.
What’s the difference between a skilled player and a noob on Halo 3?
It takes a noob twice the skill to get to 50. (Well, probably more than twice their skill
)
A lot of us work. We have jobs or own businesses. We can’t sit on halo for 10 hours each day, every day, for a year. But that doesn’t mean we suck. I re-purchased Halo 3 a couple weeks ago. I went from 20 to 43 in “Lone Wolves” in the same day.
Can I do that in Reach? Even though I’m good? No. I have to sit there and play endlessly to achieve something which clearly is supposed to imply you’re good. No, you’re not good. Anyone can rank up in Halo: Reach and that’s what makes me not even want to play it. I feel like it’s pointless for me to play the game unless I can have my rank.
Yes, I know I can select “play against similarly skilled players”. Woopty do. Team skirmish? Social slayer? Who cares.
BRING RANK BACK. PLEASE.
P.S.
In H2 the death intermission and end game showed players deaths, not just kills. Who cares if my teammate has 20 kills. I want to know DURING the game he died 30 times so I can tell him to stop dying so much. Not after the game having to go through different menus just to find out how many times I died.
