I posted this in the main update thread, but I think this post could do with it’s own thread so that it gets some more attention and I can see what the Reach community thinks of these changes. If anyone has any other ideas, suggestions or feedback; I’d like to hear them!
I’d like to see the DLC playlists ShadowVegan suggested in the main thread along with player counts updated and the ‘Countdown to Halo 4’ message every time the game is launched removed and replaced with a message representing this Reach update:
Reach (Standard or Evolved):
- Community Map Playlist - Bring the best of Community Maps to matchmaking, it’ll allow player to have more content to play with and to freshen things up. Community modes could be introduced too. If you guys really wanted to, you could introduce some high quality Community maps to every playlist.
- Capture The Flag - A standalone mode for Classic Capture The Flag, (similar to Halo 4’s dedicated CTF playlist but Classic CTF instead).
Anniversary:
- Keep the current Anniversary playlist and rename it to ‘Anniversary Classic’. Introduce other modes all with Reach features intact:
- Anniversary FFA
- Anniversary Objective
- Anniversary Team Slayer
- Anniversary Capture the Flag
- Anniversary BTB
- Anniversary Infection
Anniversary could be released on Games on Demand at a budget price at the same time as this. It would introduce new players to Halo Anniversary and also give them an incentive to buy Reach
It would be great to see Reach updated, Reach and Halo 4 can indeed exist side by side. Reach has a smaller but dedicated community that will continue to play the game regardless, so wouldn’t it be great to update the game for them?
It could also bring back a lot of old players too and make DLC sales possible as people will actually be able to play the DLC in matchmaking on the dedicated modes.
Updates for Reach are going to continue but on a much smaller scale that pre-Halo 4 launch.
Check this tweet out from bs angel, all we’ll likely see in future updates is updates to existing playlists, and even further consolidation for other playlists.

Have we had any confirmation past that tweet in August though?
I just worry that 343 may not be planning anything for the future.
These are the changes I bet would please a lot of people who still play Reach.
-
Remove the TU, uniting all competitive and evolved playlists back under competitive. The majority of ‘Reach purists’ would prefer this, and as an overall design philosophy it is better to have a consistent gameplay experience across the board.
-
Bring back Squad DLC.
-
Bring back Firefight Limited as a dedicated playlist under its regular name ‘Firefight’ with a generator defense variant as one of the voting options. Important note, restore the firefight load outs in Firefight to the default firefight load outs. Default firefight should always be the first voting option.
-
Split Firefight Arcade into its own playlist.
-
Remove all Invasion Skirmish game variants and all the smaller maps that support Invasion Skirmish from the invasion playlist. Add the DLC maps that are not in the invasion playlist for invasion slayer (highlands, breakneck, and ridgeline)
-
Playlists that should be removed to consolidate the population are as follows: Super Slayer (obvious because hopefully the TU is removed), MLG, Team Snipers, and Double Team.
at this point it seems like reach has been abandoned by 343.
it would have been nice to see an update that at least made it somewhat possible to obtain all of the anniversary achievements. I know im stuck with the emergency room one because i never earned it before they took out anniversary btb which was also my favorite playlist.
