Halo: Reach [PC] The many problems.

The halo reach launch has been amazing, but there are still many many problems with it as of right now and I’ll be going through to the best of my ability what those currently are.

Melee-fakeout: Ever so often when I melee an enemy spartan the sound will play and animation will go off and the enemy spartan will have taken no damage, even more amusing if that spartan is killed after this ghost melee it will give you an assist despite you doing zero damage. This is by far the most infuriating bug and makes my swat joy crumble.

AFKs: Now I know AFKing isn’t a bug or glitch but it is an insanely big problem in game modes like Grifball where some people will setup a macro recorder and grind for xp abusing the auto-queue system most frequently in grifball. They can justify some XP specifically by running it down with the attack button held to potentially get some kills in a game, I’ve had games where literally all of my team mates are afk and even some of the enemy team and there is no means to report them or interact in any way, which brings me to my next issue.

Connections: The current system limits the ease of interaction absurdly, after a match you can view somebodys player details but it specifically hides the Friend Request button and all other buttons you’d actually want from the feature of viewing their profile, It should at the VERY LEAST give you a link to pop up their steam profile if they should have one, looking players up after leaving queue to add them is braindead levels of obnoxious and makes it feel very clunky.

Crouching: This is a rather old bug dating back to the original halo 2 PC port that was oh so long ago and glorious, but while moving in any way at all you cannot crouch. The fact that this isn’t a new bug to PC halo in anyway shows how little effort is being put into bug fixing of any kind in this port and how rushed it was. Not that I blame developers for that given the constraints of working under a hard deadline. This is probably the most pathetic of the bugs due to how stupidly easy it would be to fix and how well known it’s existence was before reach was ever a whisper in the wind for PC.

On top of these bugs there are other oddly specific bugs that occur only for some users and not others that I’ve personally not experienced so haven’t listed here since I couldn’t do it justice. The Melee Fakeout and AFKs are probably my biggest concerns, a Report system is required for any FPS and especially one with team killing for gods sake. Also while not a bug it is very annoying when I’m playing 4v4 swat and 2 players on my team instantly DC, there needs to be rules in this game because there are so many gamebreaking activities one can pursue if they are malicious and there’s not an ounce of effort yet put into preventing them. At the very least for small games like 4s include a surrender feature if people DC similar to League of Legends and other team games. It’s just a waste of time for one team and free xp for the other and it’s very unfair, this said I’ve won most the time this has occurred but that’s just because of skill, 4 beats 3 on small maps because halo: reach has no concept of safe spawning and will spawn you directly in front of their crosshair for -Yoink- and giggles and this fun feature occurs far more often if they have more map control.

TL:DR Can’t crouch while walking, Melee doesn’t always work, No method to report or add friends with ease, and AFKs need punishment.

Bugs/shortcomings

  • cant exit out of matchmaking in middle/late stages of finding a match
  • you’re entered into match making automatically after a game, disable this or give us an option to disable it in settings
  • Not easy to add friends or make parties in post game lobby (via a copy of the game purchased in windows store at least)
