Halo Reach or Halo 5

Halo Reach. I can play Firefight in Reach which there is no equivalent to in Halo 5. I can go for commendations for the Reach campaign, also something mysteriously left out in H5. The customization is so much better, and the theater mode works not only for multiplayer, but for campaign and firefight too. There are some good things that H5 did moving forward but no firefight/spartan ops, no commendations for campaign are huge steps back. Same with the theater mode not working with campaign. One thing they made a big deal about with campaign was the AI always with you but honestly they become more of a hassle at times than any sort of help.

Halo Reach had far better story telling and campaign…and like it or not, it’s the foundation for all Halo’s after. The concept of thrusters and jet packs, assassinations, sprinting and just about all the evolutional stuff that is now considered standard. Without Reach, we’d still be gunning from the hips, at slow strides and feel like floating cams, like old Halos. And let’s not forget Big Team Battle for the first time.

Halo Reach also had better multiplayer customization options. It was hard to find an identical Spartan to yours…what with the mix of tactical accessories, vests and gadgets you could have added on to helmets, chests, arms etc. Also, better armor color selections.

The campaign, though, gave me chills and actually cared for the characters.

Artistically, it was also far less cartoony than Halos before and after it.

So, whatever Reach did wrong(for some), it most certainly did a lot right. Reach received bad rap because it evolved the gameplay away from late 90’s and early 2000 era arena gameplay. Thereby separating it from your usual Unreal/ Quake style bounce and jump hip shooters. This pissed off the arena and Halo purists, but delighted those who fancy a touch more realism in their gameplay.

[Edit]You have to understand that Halo CE was founded on arena style gameplay. Back when it came out, things like Unreal Tournament were the -Yoink-. Halo 2 continued on that growth, but adding dual wielding gimmick to the mix, but offsetting some question of balance. Halo 3 got rid of the dual wield fail and introduced armor powers. So you start to see a trend where the developers were now recognizing that the series needed to be a little more grounded and evolved with the times. Arena games like Unreal were dead/ dying, in favor of games like COD. Halo Reach went all out and made it more COD-like, while keeping just enough of the old-school arena style gameplay in it. Even adding jetpacks, which, like it or not, was an arena shooter’s dream. I mean, any time you can get way up in the air and try to head snipe someone…well, that’s just straight-up old school FPS for ya.

Reach was the first Halo I ever played and for that reason I will always love it, but I think if I went back to it now I would find it frustrating. I loved the forge maps and I loved the fact that there was a reticle so you couldn’t just shoot as fast as you wanted. Also, how horrible the assault rifle was compared to Halo 5. I think it is way overpowered. But the smooth gameplay of Halo 5 is amazing. Every other match in Reach had people glitching all over the screen.

Yeah that is a valid point. Reach for me was the one I put most my Halo hours into it was the best, but yeah it did start all this sprint and armour abilities crap and made Halo what it is today, I miss Halo 3 where there was no sprint, just pure skill. 343 state that we’re in a modern day and sprint in necessary but they’re just being stubborn and just trying to draw in new players, and its drawing players, the true fans away. You don’t see Counter Strike Go having any problems and that games huge and has no sprint…

Its hard to decide

Im pretty sure every game has their cycles. Oh x was better than y, then a new game comes out, everyones stoked, new game comes out and people play it and suddenly it changes to oh that games so -Yoink-.

I like halo 5. I have fun playing it and I can play it for hours on end with my friends without fail. I havent been able to do that since reach. 4 didnt do it for me. I was good at 4 but inevitably it seemed like something just wasnt clicking for me. I play 5 and its hella nice.

I like Reach. Reach was the first halo/xbox game I played. I learned how to play xbox with reach. I own and play every halo title (save for halo wars and yes that includes spartan assault).

I have friends who have never had the pleasure of the new system so far and I will be going back and playing both reach and 5 when reach hits backwards compatibility.

> C’mon man! It’s comparing apples & oranges. Reach had its own unique character and gameplay. Halo 5 is a totally different animal. I’m not bashing either. I hold them both up with respect. Plus Bungie developed Reach and 343 did 5 so you have totally different teams at the helm with their own ways of working the game.

> I still love Reach and I’m growing to love 5. Like the guy in an earlier post said, it’s like picking between your own children. You just don’t do that. Love 'em all. They each have their own unique personalities and it would be boring if all the games were the same.

So true, thank you.

I love Halo Reach’s campaign a little more than Halo 5. Halo 5 though has the better multiplayer I think, but Halo 5 would be better if they add the infection game type back to the multiplayer playlist.

Halo 5 is the new Halo Embrace it… or get left behind your choice

I really loved the customization of Reach. The campaign was really good too, I felt more attached to my Spartan in both campaign and mp. But I just didn’t like the armor abilities brought in.

While I do like halo 5 (minus the whole aiming change) I just wish you could customize more. Seeing the intro of a match and there is times where I don’t even know which one is mine so it’s like why even have that cool player intro and it not really matter since the other 3 look like you.

I remember reach when it came out and I didn’t care for it too much but after playing 4 for a long while I had so many infuriatingly laggy games that one day I got so annoyed that I went back to reach and it was so much easier to play now if I had to chose between reach and 5 I’d have to go with 5 although I would love to see more pliable customization in 5

On launch, Reach burned me badly and got me to entirely stop playing Xbox for a while. But looking back, it’s a great game that just isn’t really a Halo game and is kind of a bummer since that’s Bungie’s last Halo game. Halo 5 is the most Halo-feeling game since Halo 3 and that’s why I prefer it to Reach.
Content wise, Reach had waaayyyyy more to do at launch though

both reach and 5 are amazing, both games have their ups and downs, no game is perfect, no games are perfect on release either as in alot of peoples opinions to halo 5, but halo 5 is progressively getting better, and it will continue too. Halo reach even got better as time went on, i remember when backwards compatibility was released i loaded reach back up to see what it was like to play and there where a bunch of game modes i dont even remember being there when i stopped. Halo is a fantastic series and i will probably play reach and 5 the same amount once reach is available

This brings back so many memories. I just loved when BTB Snipes appeared in the Reach gametypes, you could really go wild in those matches.

All of this.

I just have Halo 5
But I want to buy Halo Reach…do you recommend it???

Both.

For now I personally prefer Reach, but we’ll see when forge comes out for 5

Never, ever, ever, EVER, thought I’d see the day when people would be calling Reach the GOOD game…Reach was terrible for this game franchise and represented a huge downfall.

Although 343i has left holes in their story, Bungie straight up re-wrote canon and allowed things to happen in the story that contradicted the books. “Oh, but Hyde Unleashed, the game is a higher source of canon!” Well children, that may be true but Bungie followed the books/comics with their previous games strictly, they even borrowed a lot of content from said books. ODSTs, Halsey, the entire Spartan origin, multiple Covenant species, the list goes on. The reason they broke this positive trend is because they wanted to design a new, easy to understand story for all of the people considering to get Halo, that way they have an idea of what’s going on.
