Halo: Reach modding and tools

I’ve been wanting to work on a Halo: Reach overhaul for some time, honestly for more thyan a few years. I’ve always wanted to mess with game design, and used to try to mod Halo: Custom edition. I’ve made some minor overhauls in different games using assembly and the tag editors, though never have I posted anything for public view. I want to change that with Halo: Legends of Reach, an overhaul idea I’ve been collecting notes for for a long time.

My question now is what the timeline looks like for the reach tools to release? is there one? I’m genuinely curious because I’d like to start as soon as physically possible.

The vision for this mod isn’t entirely complete until I see what the game’s engine can take when it comes to tags. The primary goal is to rebalance the weapons sandbox at its core, and to add some classics from other games, like the battle rifle and covenant carbine. the secondary goal is to redo the armor abilities, as I personally thing sprint should be replaced, and armor abilities to be more like Equipment, something you spawn with much less.

the other things, well, I’m not entirely sure they’re possible, but they’re really important to me, so I’ll list them by paragraph.

I want to make some weapons dual mode, like two weapons in one. This is most easily explained like a select fire Battle Rifle, or as another example, say switching modes on the plasma rifle to behave more like a plasma pistol with a higher heat capacity. This should be possible with some button combo like holding switch weapon and hitting fire, but we’ll have to see if the input methods will allow this. As far as I have read, BLAM should support this. I know some versions of the BR were single shot when zoomed, this is not what I mean, but I’m not against using this sort of concept in the future, I’d just like to use it in tandem.

The second thing is more complex and has me worried. I’d like to simply add Armor Abilities, actually add new tags and scripts that will allow a thruster pack (that can hopefully double jump, that would be dope.) and higher tier armor abilities like a recharging over shield, things meant as pickups as powerful as a rocket launcher or hammer, but as an armor ability.

The third thing is either relatively easy, or impossible: grenades and utilities, all able to be picked up and swapped like Infinite’s grenades and equipments. This way, the sandbox could be much more open to underbarrels, consummables like halo 3’s campaign power ups, and the like. I can’t tell if the engine would allow that, sort of like making grenades a left handed WEAP of sorts.

If anyone has any idea on the state of the tools, or anything I can do to get started now, I’m all eyes.
