Halo: Reach may not be getting a Title Update

Yep, it’s real. xDarkomantis is saying that Halo: Reach may not be getting a Title Update that you want/expecting.

If you’ve seen Alisonst’s thread in the Community forum then you would know about the interview with Frank O’Conner. In the first page of the interview, they talk about Halo: Reach and its future. I decided to break down the interview to what actually be a turn down for people expecting a Title Update.

> They’re really committed to their fans, and their community, in the same way we are. And so when the baton is passed, and we take over stats, or we take over some business aspect, or whatever, that should just be invisible to the fans.

You can already guess that the community will never know for sure if Halo: Reach has been passed to 343i or not. Just because 343i is making DLC and a “Title Update” doesn’t really mean that they “have” Halo regarding Reach.

If 343i did actually “receive” Reach in the near future then we won’t ever know until the next Halo game or when Jeremiah moves onto their game which probably won’t happen till 2013. So most likely people will have to stick with Bungie longer than you think 343 will actually show signs of them taking over “Reach”.

> eventually the endgame for Bungie is that they might still answer a question about Halo on their forums, but otherwise they’ll just look fondly back at a great period of their history

This means that Bungie won’t be doing no “Overhaul” or do some major matchmaking update. You will see more additions and less fixes of things with most likely no revising. So you will still see gameplay of how Bungie sees fit.

Bungie relies on behavorial data from Reach to get the best feedback on how things run in MM. So the vocal minority is more or less just their own group with no hope of anything they say being considered.

> But other than that, really our focus, and this is literally true, is making sure that Reach is well-tended, and cultivated, and taken care of. Because these games have a long life, right? And the multiplayer equal system is a vital part of that, and so that’s our main technical task for this year

Remember that Bungie IS in charge of Matchmaking updates and playlists. So 343i will have no say or part when it comes to other aspects of the game. So the only thing you can hope for is to save your money and buy the DLC that 343i releases and that will mostly be it. There won’t be anything else except for the “Title Update”. But remember that 343i never really said they were going to make a Title Update.

So if the Title Update even comes then you will just see glitches and bugs. You probably won’t see no Armor Lock nerf, DMR bloom change, or even weapon damage changes or anything.

So this is what I think came from the Interview with Frank. Discuss what you think on this matter.

The last comment makes a possibility, but all depends en 343.

Link to the interview he’s talking about

> The last comment makes a possibility, but all depends en 343.

Its a possibility but they are having a Halo fest at Pax. So there might not be a TU.

I hope It doesn’t, because everyone needs to let this crap game die as soon as possible. I was one of the persons who was hoping for a TU, but I gave up on it. Halo reach stopped my 6year halo addiction and If I’m ever to buy a halo game again. I will play it at friend first and then buy it. Never again will I blindly buy a game that has halo on it.

This game needs a total overhaul to make it a halo game and honestly which company would spend so much time and effort to fix something that’s not gonna earn them cash? I wouldn’t blame 343i for not making a TU for reach. It’s not halo like in so many ways, this game is beyond fixing.

I hope halo 4 will stay true to the halo formula and just add to it not change it completely.

> Bungie relies on behavorial data from Reach to get the best feedback on how things run in MM. So the vocal minority is more or less just their own group with no hope of anything they say being considered.

I approve of this logic. Bungie doesn’t always do what the vocal minority wants (thankfully). It makes sense that it’s because they’re working with better data than what the minority have.

Just as vague though, was this post by Urk made the day before that interview was released.

THEN, there’s the opening to the last BWU:

> Average length of a game in the Team Slayer hopper is 8 minutes.
>
> If we round that up to 10 minutes to account for postgame time and matchmaking time, that’s 144 games in a 24 hour period for one team.
>
> The average cow yields about 84 lbs. of steak, assuming 8 oz. steaks…we’ll need 1.7 cows.

My question is, WTH are we going to do with 285.6 steaks?

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?!?!?!?!!?!

Personally, I don’t think there’s anything to fix.

This interview actually gave me hope that their might be a Title Update along with many other surprises that are going to come from 343i. And I think Frankie knows this. The 10th celebration anniversary of Halo is going to be something big. Since Frankie stated that Reach is the kind of game that lives forever, Then this might mean that 343i is going to insure that Reach is played Forever.

After a Title Update, it will be flawless and played for years and years to come with a very robust population. When Frankie talked about loading up his Xbox 1 and taking it over to his friends to LAN during the Halo 1 era, this made me think that maybe they will create Reach to become this way. Desired to be played at our friends house and lugging our entire Xbox 360 setups with Reach for the ultimate social gatherings. I truly hope for the sake of our community and universe that this game reaches its fullest potential because in this generation Halo: Reach has the ability to posses something far greater than what the previous Halo games have had.

Have faith in 343i.

yea its definitely better that we listen to the people who have absolutely no idea whats going on in any part of the game. lets go ask the third graders at bee ball elementary school about our proposed changes to the new professional basketball rules, thats a great idea! while were at it lets take a stop in the kindergarten play-pins and ask the little tots what they think about our selection of art that we’ve brought in.

quite frankly, asking the majority what is best when the majority

1.) sucks at the game
2.) has no idea whats going on
3.) cant tell you why the mechanics are BETTER this way
4.) just want to see explosions, and could care less how things turn out so long as they can continue to see explosions

is just pathetic.

cant say i was holding my breath for a title update in the first place, so mehhh. lets just hope the next halo game isnt a flop in the mind of any even remotely competent + competitive players mind like this game is.

I mean this game could do better but its not “Reaching” its full potential. MLG makes Halo reach full potential

Bolded part would be my personal hell. I can’t wait until the next Halo is out, Reach isn’t what I was expecting.
Underlined part is just nonsense. Would you care to elaborate?

Anyway, I wouldn’t be holding my breath for a TU or any major changes/tweaks, and when I read that interview I was quite disappointed. My hope was that 343 would just throw Reach in the dumpster and bring out something awesome. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen… not for a while at least.

This guy knows what’s up!

I really don’t care about a TU any more, as there’s plenty of good games coming out this year.

I’ll be sad to see this game die, though =/

thanks for the support bro

high fives all around!

it’s possible they’ll shift focus, but it seems weird that they wouldn’t at least do ONE more significant title update.

as for the comment regarding the transition between Bungie and 343i, I think it was intended to mean that you wouldn’t know when it happened because the responsibilities would be the same. Essentially what that means is that it doesn’t matter when it happens, because in no way should it affect you. I could be wrong, but I feel like from an end-user perspective, that has the least impact and would be the best thing for them to do for their customers.
