Halo Reach is better than Halo 4. (This is only concerning the multiplayer aspects.)
PERSONALLY Halo 3 and Reach were my favorite Halo games. There were some things I didn’t like about it of course, but that was the same with every Halo game.
Now, I keep seeing variants of the following:
Halo 4 is so much better than Reach, except for (insert every new aspect of Halo4)
or
Halo 4 is so much better than Reach, but 343 shouldn’t have done (insert everything 343 did)
or simply,
343 shouldn’t have changed (insert all the changes 343 made, but Reach kept the same), but at least it’s better than Reach
Wouldn’t it be easier to just say that Halo Reach is better?
Here are a few reasons why (based mostly on complaints):
Join in progress sucks - Halo Reach did not do this
Instant Respawn - Wasn’t it Reach
No Ranking system - At least Reach had Arena
Lack of Playlists - We were given all of our playlists, plus others, and guess what? they were integrated. we wouldn’t have to switch to play oddball, KotH, or Flag
Spawns suck - Spawns are never perfect, but they were definitely better in Reach
Random Weapon drops - Nope, not in Reach
Personal Ordinance - Didn’t see that in Reach either
Game types don’t match maps - I don’t remember ever playing two flag on Reflection, Boardwalk, Powerhouse and etc. But you do on Abandon and Complex.
New players being disadvantaged from the beginning - Nope wasn’t there
Pocket shotgun (aka boltshot) - Nope not in Reach
Vehicles underwhelming because of stickies and plasma pistol loadout - Definitely not in Reach
Perma-sprint - Not in Reach
Glitches - Reach had some, but definitely not as many
Lack of map variety, arena style maps, smaller maps, etc - Wasn’t a problem in Reach
Bullet Magnetism - Not as big a problem in Reach
Over Powered DMR - can be said that DMR was the only good weapon in Reach, but it didn’t have the same distance as the Halo 4 DMR, and it had bloom, which kept it from being ridiculously overpowered. So Reach DMR was not overpowered compared to the Halo 4 DMR
Scattershot (the gun only works sometimes)
Loadouts (grenades are weak b/c you have to use a perk, shields recharge slower because they want you to use a perk, Ammo perk? giving you a full sniper or rockets? ridiculous, and etc) - Not in Reach. The Reach loadouts were very controlled.
Too many power Weapons
Frame Rate lag
Broken Fileshare
Theater not intuitive
Missing Forge components
Lack of custom game options
Community Responsiveness
This list can go on and on. But lets stop and mention Armor Abilities. Yes Reach did introduce them, but they all had a downfall.
Armor lock, while annoying in non vehicle maps, was effective against vehicles. It had the disadvantage of the person being a sitting duck. How many times did someone armor lock only for a rain of grenades to hit them? The shield in Halo 4? You can move with it. And smart people do that same annoying beat down thing with the shield as they did with armor lock (minus shields popping)
Promethean vision? Seriously? Could it get much worse? Active Camo has become a lot more powerful. They are more invisibile, turn invisible almost instantly when being shot or when shooting, and etc. Reach had a more gradual effect. Not to mention the blue dots are pointless. At least the red ones in Reach prevented the invisible guy from using his radar as well.
And people still say Halo 4 is better but…
Why not just say Halo Reach was a better game, because it was according to most of these complaints.
Halo 2: Halo CE is Better
Halo 3: Halo 2 is Better
Halo Reach: Halo 3 is Better Halo 4: Halo 3/Reach is Better
This community has problems, and it just got worse with Halo 4’s release with all the whiners and trolls that come on and make random troll attempts and random complaints abou stuff that isn’t broken:
EX: “Waah! I just got wrecked by AR’s last match and it’s OP! NERF IT! I want my stupidly OP DMR to dominate, WAAAAH!!!”
I won’t even compare the differences between the multiplayer aspect in Halo 4 and Reach until we get a local only search filter. Until then, Reach is automatically better.
I can 100% admit this without feeling the need to defend 343 and their terrible decision making.
Halo: Reach is easily better then this hunk of junk.
Some of the crap that gives me the irks includes:
Randomness is just astonishing. You can at times Boltshot an opponent 15 meters away full shield in one shot while other times won’t do any damage dead in front. This goes of for most weapons.
Spawning is just plain crap and no words can defend that.
Glitches. There are so many glitches in multiplayer it is not possible. It is just not possible that a game that was worked on for 3+ years can have this many glitches in multiplayer and still over a month later continue to find even more glitches.
Custom Games. They pretty much cut a portion of the fan base and told them to go play another game with the decisions to drop the most fundamental features this game mode had.
UI is terrible and glitchy (cut this metro crap out. The menus suck while matchmaking, plain and simple. They are blocks and take over a second after input to load properly. Movements afterwards are like you are lagging. The menus should work fine. You did test these right to see if they load correctly and timely?
Load-outs allowing plasma grenades and pistols make vehicles useless. the fact they are made out of paper doesn’t help either.
That’s just the beginning. I agree that Reach is better then Halo 4 and always will be.
Oh, I forgot to mention responsiveness to the community. Bungie had weekly updates, tweaks, and map balances with Reach until the transition process began. 343 rarely acknowledges the community, or admits to the existing problems.
The Reach User Interface is way better than the Halo 4 edition.
Reach Firefight is better than Spartan Ops, in my opinion. Even if you disagree with this, at least Halo: Reach Firefight had an actual Carnage Report. Spartan Ops hardly tells you anything at all. The lack of scoring in Spartan Ops doesn’t make any sense to me

Anyone who complains about the health system was a player unable to adjust. Every single time you shoot someone 3 times and then go in for the beat down, you knew the result, so why do it? Just avoid the situation altogether in put in your extra shot first. Personally I find it better than putting 4 shots into a person with the BR or DMR in Halo 4, both me and the other player being one shot and going in for the beat down, and losing because the other guy had an automatic weapon and automatic weapon beat downs trump rifle beat downs in Halo 4. (due to speed and the ability to put in a few extra shots without actually killing the person) Halo 4 beat downs are far more random, when in Reach you at least knew when a beat down was going to kill and when it wasn’t.
And you can’t do the same in Halo 4? Camo is in both games, and is far more powerful in Halo 4. I’ll still take Reach, thanks
Bloom was meant to keep it from becoming the weapon that it is in Halo 4. Once again, players could adjust to bloom. Simple solution, instead of spamming because of being an anxious unskilled player, slow down before taking the last shot. You had a choice, either spam and lose, or realize spamming isn’t the best route and adjust.
Grenades are ridiculously underwhelming in Halo 4. I hit a player with 4 grenades once and he still walked away because I didn’t have a explosive boost on. That is ridiculous. If a grenade hits you, it should do damage. I would still take Reach.
Sword + Sprint and double melee is still quite prevalent. In fact. I was just doing it on adrift. And don’t let someone get the sword from an ordinance on Haven on infinity slayer. The exact same thing happens. So point?
