Halo: Reach II campaign idea!

I just came up with a brilliant idea for a sequel to Halo: Reach.

The most common argument I hear when pitching ideas for a sequel to Halo: Reach is that Reach was destroyed and therefor there can’t be a sequel. But I found a loophole of sorts… what if in the sequel, the campaign showed you a different perspective to the Covenant invasion of Reach?

What if you played as an Elite, leading the Covenant invasion of Reach?

I have an idea for an Elite counterpart to Noble Six- the Grand Zealot. The Grand Zealot would be just like Noble Six in that you wouldn’t know his/her real name, but you would be able to customize their armor and play a pivotal role in the Covenant’s conquest of the planet. Your mission, as the Grand Zealot, would be to lead the Covenant’s Elite Zealots in the search for the Forerunner artifact beneath ONI Sword Base.

An altered version of Halo 5’s squad command mechanic would carry over to Halo: Reach II, only instead of commanding a squad of Elites, you be able to command any Covenant forces you come in contact with; Grunts, Jackals, Elites, Hunters, and Drones would rally around you and follow your orders.

We’ve played as Elites in past Halo games, but we’ve always fought against Heretics, the Flood, or Brutes. Not this time. This time you would truly feel like a warrior for the Covenant as you battle against the UNSC.

UNSC enemies would include Troopers, Guards, Helljumpers, Sharpshooters, Heavies, and Spartans. Troopers would be the basic infantry, able to use a wide variety of weapons from Assault Rifles to Rocket Launchers. Guards would be equipped with light weapons like Magnums and SMGs as well as ballistic shields which will repel projectiles, but can be melted by plasma weapons. ODST Helljumpers would be equipped with jetpacks and be armed with close-assault weapons like SMGs and Shotguns. Sharpshooters would have Sniper Rifles and be decked out in ghillie suits. Heavies would be heavily-armored Marines that carry Machine Gun Turrets, Flamethrowers, and Grenade Launchers. Finally there would be Spartans, able to use a wide variety of weapons and equipment and able to match Elites for strength and speed, and of course they would have energy shields.

Beyond the campaign, there would be Firefight, which would combine the best aspects of Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach. New customization options would allow you bring back ODST’s Set Skulls- Skulls that activate at the start of a Set and remain active for the duration of the game- plus Weapon Crates. While Ammo Crates with unlimited refills would still be in there, you would also have the option to implement Weapon Crates that offer two weapons, and limited refills for those weapons. You would also have the option of fighting either the UNSC or the Covenant.

You would also have the option to customize and play as a wide variety of characters in both Firefight and Multiplayer, including Marines, ODSTs, Spartan-IIIs (with all of the armor from Halo: Reach brought back) and of course Elites, with the Elite’s armor customization expanded to have separate color options (not like Halo: Reach is now, where your Spartan and Elite characters have the same colors applied) as well as the ability to mix and match different armor pieces; Head, Chest, Shoulders, Arms, and Legs. Marines and ODSTs would also have full armor customization.

Multiplayer would be classic Halo multiplayer; no sprint, no Armor Abilities, no Spartan Abilities. You would have the option to play as Spartans and Elites by default, with ODSTs and Marines being playable in Custom Games and maybe some special weekly hopper playlists or Action Sack. And of course there would be Forge, Theater, a Custom Game Browser, Theater, File Sharing and File Browser, all packaged in the game at launch, along with separate Ranked and Social playlists just like they were in Halo 3, complete with Halo 3’s ranking system.

What do you think?

I’ve heard something similar mentioned before, this might actually work if implemented. Great job!

Sounds like a good game to me, I’d buy it even as an ad-on.

I think when we first played as an elite in halo 2, no one really liked the elites. I feel that people’s, or at least my own, opinionon has changed on elites.

I would like a halo reach 2 to follow Jun and Halsely as they fight alongside other spartans and try to get Halsely off reach, maybe when they fly away in the pelican it gets shot down and Soren-066 appears out of the forest to help them (if you don’t know Soren he is one of the more instresting Spartan IIs in canon and you can read about him on Halo nation) then Jun fights alongside Fred, Linda, Kelly Vinh 030, at Castle Base.

I love this idea. I’ve always wanted a legitimate Covenant campaign, especially in this newer era.
The only issue might be weapons. The arbiter could use human weapons legitimately because he was already considered dishonored- Only in death as the arbiter could he have regained his honor, as according to sangheili society. So, to go with canon, human weapons would not be usable in campaign, which would not bode well. Of course, there was no arbiter at that point in the timeline- Thel Vadam’ee commanded the fleet, but that was before his failure at Installation 04.
Of course, that’s only a lore concern. Otherwise, like I said, I’ve always loved the idea of a covenant campaign.

They could always toss in the “Foreign” skull from Halo: CE Anniversary that makes it so you can’t pick up UNSC weapons if you want it be that immersive. But they should not forbid the player from using UNSC gear in the campaign by default, that would be just stupid.

Yeah, that would be really cool. The elite you play as could be Thel Vadamee or his second in command (Thel probably didn’t see very much combat on reach.) it would follow his campaign against reach and it would end with his presuit of th Pillar of Autumn.

If this was done properly and a high standard. It would be awesome!

That would be very interesting, but do you think it would be a success? I’d much rather have it as an Expansion Pack for Reach Remastered if it ever comes out, because judging by the multiplayer, do you see a lot of people playing elites? Even if you hop on other Halo games, not many people play as the Elites.

That’s because you can’t play as Elites in Reach outside of special game modes like Elite Slayer and Invasion Slayer, whereas in previous Halo games being an Elite put you at a disadvantage; I think the Elites may have had slightly larger hitboxes in Halo 3 at least, because whenever I played as an Elite I was getting killed more easily.
