Wait, I’ve been hearing alot on the forums about Halo 4 using Reachs engine. Is it true? If so, does that mean Halo 4 will play like Reach?
I doubt it. We’ll probably see a new engine and playstyle.
Doubtful, I think Bungie still technically owns that engine, I think 343 will have to make a new one based off of it.
It will be a modified version of the reach engine. Though hopefully not as gloomy a setting, but that is unlikely since that was supposed to be reach’s theme

It will. Frank announced it.
Big deal, the Reach engine was modified from Halo 3, and 3s engine modified from Halo 2, and Halo 2s engine a modified version of Halo CE.
So i see no problem in this. At least we know its not a third person kinect game.

Thank goodness.
Halo4 will be on the Halo Reach engine but some upgrades will be made, every Halo game has run on the previous games upgraded engine(except for HaloCE of course, that was when the engine was new).
The engine has does not necessarily define the in game mechanics.

1. Yes and no. It will probably use an upgraded and extended version of Reach’s engine.
2. No. The game engine generally doesn’t limit the kind of game that one can create. Reach’s engine is particularly flexible; depending on what level you’re on and what weapon you’re using, the game is a racing game, a space-themed flight simulator, a first-person shooter, a third-person shooter, a zombie game, a map editor…
You can rest assured that Reach’s engine won’t limit the game design.

It’s being made with an updated version of the Reach engine. So techniquelly yeas it will be using the Reach engine but they’ve updated it a bit, this won’t necesarrily mean it will play like Reach.

For Reach they started to use Halo 3’s engine but ditched it and made a new one from scratch, I’m pretty sure they included that in one of their early vidocs.
Same engine doesn’t mean same gameplay.
But when it comes to graphics, give me Reach with dynamic shadows and more color and I’ll be happy. Gameplay however, don’t give me Reach.
Gears of War and Mortal Kombat are made on the same engine.
Engine by itself literally means nothing in terms of gameplay.
It can either be a carbon copy or a completely different game, you’d need a lot more insight to even get the slightest clue.
Reach’s tech but CE’s art. Does that work for all of you?
Still…dont joke bout tht lolol this is Master Chief not Noble 6

Erm, no. They took the engine and rebuilt some of the parts, but kept it mostly the same. What you’re thinking about is how they first used some Halo 3 assets, but then realized that they weren’t up to par with the level of detail they wanted for Reach.
Halo 4 will use Frost Bite 2 engine so we will have 24 player games, aim down sight and jets…
> Halo 4 will use Frost Bite 2 engine so we will have 24 player games, aim down sight and jets…
^…not even gonna bother.
And it will be using a modified version of Reach’s engine (just hopefully it has better lighting effects than Reach…) using the same engine doesn’t necessarily mean it will play like Reach.

False. Bungie left Microsoft with nothing but money.
Halo, their code, everything belongs to Microsoft.
The party system you use to chat with friends is Halo 2’s party system.
The engine doesn’t mean its going to be anything like Reach.
The engine includes things like audio systems, displaying graphics, cutscene systems, animation systems.
All of the sounds, graphics, cutscenes, and animations can be different, but the code to execute them will be similar.
All of the Halo games have used a modified version of the previous one, don’t worry about the engine.
Its the content added to an engine that makes the game.
Is it technically using the reach engine? Yes and no. It was confirmed that it will be running on a modified Halo engine. Now think about this…According to Frankie in the 227 OXM podcast Halo 4 will be running on the same engine, but it has been in development for the past three years…
Three years ago Halo Reach was still in it’s alpha-beta state. He claims that all those working on Halo 4 have been working on it uninterrupted for the past couple years, and the teams responsible for Halo CEA are now apart of that team/ (We’re looking at 200+ members)so Halo Reach doesnt represent how Halo 4 will feel, neither does Halo Anniversary.
We will likely see graphical updates, gameplay tweaks, and hopefully a more memorable story to keep Halo on the right track as a triple A shooter.
And technically no, Bungie doesnt have full rights to the Halo engine. They’ve given all the rights of anything halo related to 343i, since it is basically a faction of Bungie that focuses entirely on Halo. If 343i didn’t have the rights, Halo CEA would have been a issue to develop seeing as to how many of it’s ingame models were taken straight from Reach.
Reach was a great looking game, A more polished visual presentation of what the Engine was capable of sounds great.
