HALO: REACH crashes my PC while in a match.

At first when I downloaded the game the game was freezing every few 1-5 seconds and it would only start moving again if I went off the game via Alt+TAB or Windows button+TAB. This only happened in the game, not the PC. Then I tried to load the campaign and 5 seconds into the cut scene the game freezes for good. Then I think, what if I just skip the cut scenes? So I did then while in the game, 5 Seconds later PC crashes. Not just the game the entire PC. I did some digging online and followed the steps on this website: https://respawnfirst.com/halo-reach-fatal-error-fix/ .
The website did fix the menu freezes and immediate game crashes, However despite that, The game still crashes my PC out of nowhere while I’m in game. I tried to play Invasion but almost every time within a duration of 2 minutes - 10 minutes my PC crashes. It’s not only invasion that crashes, It’s every single game mode that crashes. But sometimes I am able to get through the entire match without crashing. This is still really annoying as I am unable to gain any sort of match experience from the match which i played a bit of or almost the entire match. The PC crash happens, in my estimate of about 4 in every 5 games I play. I have no idea at this point on what is causing the crash as I haven’t been able to find any cases posted that are similar to mine.

I am currently running original settings because it seems to extend the duration before a crash but my PC can handle enhanced.
My PC specs are:
-AMD Ryzen 5 3400G
-Asrock B450M HDV R4.0
-2 x 8GB DDR4 HyperX Fury 3200Mhz

I am not using a discrete GPU as of now, so I am using the Radeon Vega 11 graphics that are integrated into the CPU.
I am not overclocking any of the components on my PC.
Could somebody please give me any insight into my issue? I would really love to be able to play Reach properly.

Are you sure than is not overheat?

I had the same issues with Gears 5 and one day my power suply died.

I’m not sure then. I will try to use MSI afterburner to check my cpu and gpu temps while I’m playing then I’ll answer your question again. Thanks for the suggestion.

I ran Invasion mode with MSI afterburner and it was running below 60 degrees at all times then the game crashed on my second Invasion game. so I believe that the crash is not due to heat issues. I’m really open to any other suggestions.

Well, Halo reach has like 10 years, its hard to think that it overheat any PC. Well, in my case the overheat was only on the power suply.

I don’t know what exactly it is, maybe you can fix it reinstalling.

It happen on other games? If is so,maybe is from some component.

Actually, This also happened on Borderlands 2 but much much faster. When i get into the game it crashes within 30 seconds of in game ( not the menu ).
In case you are wondering, I am using a ThermalTake TR2 600W PSU 80+ Bronze. I will try to reinstall the game but this might take a few hours.

On the next crash try to put your hand near of the power suply.

But anyways, you said than you are using a integrated graphic card, right? Maybe i’m wrong, my english is not good at all.

OK will try and yes I am using the integrated graphics on my Ryzen cpu. You’re english is not bad though. You can clearly communicate what you’re trying to say.

Edit: I don’t think that the PSU would overheat as I am very obviously not going anywhere near the rated 600W on only a CPU without a GPU but I will check anyways.

I see, if is not the power suply it can be that your PC can’t handle all without a dedicated graphics card.

Anyways,if you want to play any recent game you should to use graphic card.

edit: Try also removing components like Ram to check is someone is failing,or at least change the slot.

I’ve used FurMark to stress test my CPU and ram and the temperatures on my CPU went all the way up to 75 degrees after running for ten minutes. I don’t think the issue is with the components. Although something that has caught my attention is when my brother plays Halo: Reach on my PC. He almost never crashes. He uses Big Picture Mode on steam because he uses a PS4 controller. I tried entering with big picture mode but the game still crashes. Maybe it has something to do with inputs. I could be wrong though. If it has something to do with inputs I’m not sure how I can fix it.
I’m open to any suggestions to run the game better.

I fixed my issues. Turns out it was my pc that was the issue. Here are the few things i had to fix.

  1. I did not install the extra drivers my motherboard manufacturer advised to which caused my pc to be wonky with some games. So I had to download the All in one driver package from my MOBO manufacturer’s website.
2.My motherboard bios was on a version that wasn’t recommended for Zen+ CPUs which caused it to constantly BSOD with “thread stuck in device driver”. I ended up having to downgrade the driver to an older version which i thought was really risky because I did not know much about the risks of bios updating/downgrading. but so far after 2 weeks I have not gotten a BSOD since the BIOS downgrade, only one crash from Monster Hunter due to a bit of overheating.
I did a lot of other things to try to fix my PC that I don’t even remember anymore due to the sheer amount of times i tried something different but I think this is what fixed it for me (Particularly the second one).
Just finishing this off so that no one continues to reply as I have fixed the issue.

The only way I can play the game without crashing is setting the resolution at 1280x720 at full screen. Maybe this can work to someone else.
