I am writing this because I was wondering how to get and much it would cost for a commercial license for my machinima style Halo series I’m working on. I was wondering, if it would someday be popular enough to sell on DVD format (Like “Red vs Blue”), how would I go about this copyright wise. I haven’t even started on filming this project but I was wanting to know ahead of time so I can plan it all out in case an opportunity would come up. The only two companies I know that have a license for Halo are Machinima and Rooster Teeth. I was wondering if they would sell one to a not well known (at all) YouTube channel. My gamertag is RocketRaccoon98 if you would need that for any reason. Our website is listed in the link. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
You can’t just pay for a commercial license, you have to have direct permission from Microsoft as well as have the series be popular enough to warrant them giving the permission in the first place.
I don’t know the specifics on what Rooster Teeth has but I believe Microsoft gets something out of the money earned or they pay some kind of yearly fee to them to continue what they’re doing.
You would honestly have to contact Microsoft directly and ask.
If you find out how to get a license let me know lol, i’ve been trying to find out for a while
