I was playing “The Package” on legendary and got to the end when I saved and quit. I came back a few hours later and the game was acting like it was the first time logging in prompting me with create a new spartan. I tried again and it said I have not even played the campaign.
I checked my storage and the save for halo reach and everything is there on my hard drive. I checked Forge and all my custom made maps are there. My MP title is there but my armor is all the newbie armor.
Please tell me after 3 years there is a solution because I am not going through this game on legendary again with the risk of losing it. Thanks.
Sounds like a bug (or some sort of data corruption) that occasionally wipes out your “identity” (armor, emblem, Campaign completion, etc.) in Reach and Halo 4. I don’t know of any reliable way to recover that data once it has been lost, though you can at least open up all Campaign missions again by doing a quick Easy playthrough.
If you’re concerned about how this will affect Legendary completion rewards (Service Record icons, Achievements, etc.), I unfortunately only have speculation. If that’s fine, then check the spoiler box below.
When you beat all missions on Legendary while online, your Service Record (in-game and on the web) should show Legendary completion. As far as I’m aware, that particular data is 100% web-based: if you complete a Legendary run while online, your Reach Service Record should permanently reflect that. However, I don’t know whether Reach tracks it for each mission: you might be able to just play the levels you didn’t get a chance to beat on Legendary (after unlocking them on Easy), or you might have to replay everything.
Regarding Achievements, don’t quote me on this but I think they rely solely on the data on your storage device. You’ll probably have to replay the entire Campaign on Legendary to unlock any achievements for that.
