The Problem with Halo Reach’s subtitles…
Okay okay before you crucify me saying almost anything is wrong with reach, i don’t think there’s much any wrong with this game. It’s one of my favorite halo stories and up there with the best forge. I’ve made so many memories playing this story with my brother on legendary countless times. It’s a treat. (Here comes the but…)
My Xbox friend has recently picked up Reach and wanted to play the whole way through, start to finish. He mentioned that he played Winter Contingency once and that’s it. So i quickly re-downloaded it on my One, and we set to play. We, along with a third, set out to play. Going through the story however, my friend noticed something, there are no in-game subs with what Noble Team and/or what marines say. This is kind of a problem.
The banter and info the give out during the gameplay is important, and connects you with Noble team. Not having that doesn’t help with my friends investment in the story.
“Why cant he hear what they say” Two reasons: His headset broke to where he can no longer hear game sound, just us in the party. There are 4 of us, three of which are playing (other dude is on siege, we didn’t bother to kick him out). With us talking over the game AND (reason two) the charmful yet poor quality of characters like Kat’s and Carter’s comm radio, my friend couldn’t hear them in the slightest. He and I were generally worried he would miss arguably unimportant banter for some lack of connection and care for the team.
Solution:… he’s just gonna play it on his own. No big deal really. But i’m making this post to get some possible discussion on what you think. Whether this should be a thing or not, or whether you’ve had the same experience. I apologize if this is nit picky in ways, just thought i would put it out there. Thanks for reading!
