This video was posted several times yesterday. Personally, I could only make it through half of the video. Trueskill is still being used to match players. You just don’t see a visible skill number.

If a MLG pro like Ninja says we need ranks then maybe he has a point.
Ofcourse he is right and we need ranks !
The solution is : Keep the credits for a overal ranking and make a separate 1-50 rank system for each playlist.

I think a lot of people have lost site of all of the ills of the past 1-50 ranking system. Hindsight is funny like that. I think revisiting the old H3 forums would refresh people’s memories. I think that was the motivation behind the arena system. I’m saying it’s a good replacement, or want to turn this into an arena discussion, just noting that they changed it for good reason based on everything said in that forum.
I think what the Pro in the video doesn’t realize, is that TrueSkill is present, and it’s the vehicle that is being used to find you matches. You just can’t see that little number, and people seem to be hung up on that. He just seems to be a bit confused on the subject just a little bit. We all know that the current ranking system is based on playtime, and in terms of skill level, there is no correlation.
The base of the argument, is that people need/want to see that little number. Not being able to see it makes it difficult for people to size up their opponent, and go into that match with that preconceived notion of who they are playing against. Taking the ability away to immediately stereotype the opposition puts an unknown factor into each match. It sounds like this unknown factor is causing a lot of people grief.
You all may not be aware of this but the majority of the MLG community wants the 1-50 back.

We’re entirely aware. I saw the poll on the forums yesterday. Unfortunately for them, this is not happening in Reach.

This is a video from MLG pro Ninja. Please watch the whole thing. He is so right about everything. This is what Reach (and Halo as a whole) needs to stay alive.
the level system definitely needs to make a return. Combine the player rating system with the level system and you have greatness. Halo 4 needs to actually be a good game too.
exactly. im only assuming halo 4 will have some skill based ranking system, but in the meantime, we need 1-50 for reach. or else reach is going to die out so fast.

Halo: Reach will NEVER be getting 1-50, Arena Rankings on MLG though, plausible.
No, I agree a ranking system should be implemented but it must not be 1-50.
It was heavily flawed, made no sense at times, and promoted too much cheating boosting and deranking and is not worth ruining 1 of every 3 games like it did in Halo 3.
not to troll, but reach ranking ruins 3 in 3 games because few people find it entertaining. you can only do the same thing so many times and get the same result so many times before getting very bored.
i had to close it after he started n about ranks, the ignorance from that was hurting my brain…

How so? TrueSkill is still present and finding you matches. You just can’t see that number. He seems to not understand that.
because the number is used to motivate players to keep play and win. it gives halo a competitive side that has died since reach was released. and plus the current true skill is a joke. i haven’t had a balanced match in anything but mlg yet.

That isnt what I think he is pretty much wrong on all aspects of a good matchmaking system
