What will happen to commendations once the Halo: Reach and Halo 4 servers are shut down?
They will be lost to the abyss along with all the other things that are accessed from the server. Take some screenshots while you can.
Thanks for the response. I suspected such as I recall that Reach’s commendations sync straight to the server. Although, I would imagine that our ranks probably function the same way. So we will all be Recruits running around in default armor? I wish 343 would have given us more details about what exactly will happen when they pull the plug.

I would guess that the Armor Customization and Player Rank do still work after the servers shut down as both of these features are functional when you play offline (even with a xbox live account).

As far as armor customization, I only mention it because on the chart they put out they have a red X on it, not 100% what they mean by it but I would at least assume a partial if not total loss of functionality. I’m not really sure about rank, I’m sort of just inferring by the fact that Bungie is the one who used to administer credit bans and caps, so I would imagine their servers play some sort of role. I guess we will just have to see barring additional input from 343.

While this is true, there was also many times where if there was some sort of maintenance or issue with the server, all ranks/armor would revert to recruit/default. This is something to consider when wondering about how it will ultimately turn out when they are switched off, and 343 have been very vague about it.
