Halo ranked multiplayer.

As an avid halo player, who played halo from the very start and played halo 3 for the better of three years before the switch to Halo: Reach, I can say the best part for me was the multiplayer TrueSkill Ranked multiplayer system that bungie.net had implemented.

I was wondering both Why it isn’t included any more and if it has any plans on returning.

I saw ranked play as a reason to continue playing halo 3. But as this was removed I play the new halos “Reach and 4”. The social aspect of halo 3 was intact with the social queue types. And the competitive scene was there with the ranked queues (although competitions were not big, but the visible ranking were). Everyone that I met through halo 3 ( some of my best friends ) really liked the halo ranked system that halo 3 brought and really one of the main reasons why I don’t like the newer halos is the lack of supported competitive play.

I know a lot of my friends would get back into the halo and buy halo 4 if this system were implemented once again into the game. It would make me want to play it more also. I brought the new halo and am already just seeing the whole leveling system as an unimportant part of the multi-player experience, sure leveling it allows us to get new armor but other than that it’s just a way of seeing how much the person plays the game rather than how good they are, which is what I see the ranking system as in a perfect world. A perfect world with ranked queues and TrueSkill returning to the game.

I’m hoping that if we get enough people liking this idea it will return, unless I am seeing this all wrong and it was horrible system which should burn in a fire. Sorry for the wall of text, I just see implementing ranked queues back into halo 4 a great benefit to 343 Industries and Microsoft, as it would get more people playing the game and more people buying xboxlive gold.

TL;DR. I want halo 3 ranked system implemented into halo 4, and would like to know why it has been left in the dust.

What people fail to see is that true skill system and custom games are the things that allowed Halo 3 to live so long. The ranking system made people want to strive to get better and encouraged teamwork. It allowed you to see how you stacked up to other players in the game. Reach lost the majority of its population in under a year because both its ranking system and custom games options sucked.

Actually, TrueSkill is in. The MM system searches for players around your TrueSkill level to keep the matches balanced. (in fact, there’s something that i’ve realized that was very surprising…since D1 i NEVER encountered GUESTS even though guests are allowed in EVERY playlist).

Also, 343i is adding a visual rappresentation of your TrueSkill level on a scale of 1-50 for every playlist in early 2013.

This would be amazing, the actual ranks given to high tier players was a really good point of the game. Not sure how they would do this now with over 130 levels of Spartan Rank. But seeing it implemented would be really good, and would bring back many players.

100% agree. After around a year of halo 3 I had racked up around 1000 custom games played, surpassing all other game modes until my second year of gaming on halo 3 (which was supassed with my ranked matchmaking rank.) Never have a I played social. I have no idea why they took it out.

The ranking system they are adding to Halo 4 is NOT visiable IN-GAME. You will have to go to HaloWayPoint to see your rank in each playlist.

This is very sad. WE NEED VISIABLE RANKS IN-GAME FOR EACH PLAYLIST!!!

This is disappointing, I see halo waypoint to be a strictly POST game application, where you can see what’s happened with your stats and review your play.

Putting the visible ranking in this application is such a negative thing because it takes away the immediate ability to create strategy on the enemies( which was a main point of halo ranked play in my opinion).
Back in halo 3 when I queued for team doubles with my cousin we would both see the rankings, and with it give respect to those players who had gone through the troubles we did to earn that ranking.
Instead I just assume everyone else is a bot with no soul. Taking what feels like a massive chunk of the multi-player experience.

can any1 recommend an xbox COMPETATIVE multiplayer fps. i am lossing so much of my interest in halo 4 that im thinking of moving on as there is to much CRAP in matchmaking. uneven teams all the time players that fill up the team but never actually spawn, ( do they even know there in my game )

mid game join OMFG this isnt even optional. lose after lose after lose.
960-170 slayer
4-0 CTF with flag half way back
141 KOTH with the hill in there control. THATS RIGHTS A 9 SECOND LONG GAME!!!

ALL GIVING LOSES.

most of my friends have already ditched halo 4 some with 12,000 games played across h2 h3 reach

> The 1-50 true skill ranking system will never be implemented IN game. The CSR update they are adding is ONLY web based meaning only seen on waypoint and does not effect rank. Basically has no purpose and is pointless. For more info and to support a full skilled ranking system check out this thread- https://forums.halowaypoint.com/yaf_postst135168_1-50-Competitive-Skill-Rank-Official-Thread.aspx

True Skill in game rank, and BRING BACK THE LEADER BOARDS… GIVE COMPETITIVE GAMERS SOME MOTIVATION…

All,

While previous halo games really focused on skill level and it is that measurability that made it successful, it has now become a problem instead of a benefit. The sole reason this change of tables occured is because of the boom of Call of Duty. In order to have over 500,000 players online at any given time, Halo has to cater to all sorts of gamers.

I hate to say this: the elite, competitive population of halo players (especially the ones that care enough to post in this forum), we make up such a tiny percentage of the overall true population.

As is, with the innate sprinting and the no-visible rankings, I feel that there is a slight fusion between halo and call of duty. I like it, but I also would like to switch gears and go competitive 5 shotting when I want to.

even black ops 2 got more competitive. they got a separate game list for people who makes teams, and they get ranked. So why is halo 4 getting less competitive?

I have a +1000 kills more than deaths. I only play 2 times a week.

I AM BORED OF PLAYERS WITH NO SKILL

> since D1 i NEVER encountered GUESTS even though guests are allowed in EVERY playlist).

I’ve encountered guests quite a bit. (depends on the playlist of course). I’m a 45 or 46, and consistently play against those with in the 50s and 60s. Heck, I had a 106 the other night.
