I felt compelled to start this thread because it seems like anytime someone makes a post arguing for classic Halo mechanics they are called a “Halo Elitist” or told “we don’t want Halo from 10 years ago, nostalgia is real”
I love Halo. I’ve played every single multiplayer from launch. I started playing CE LANs with my friends and haven’t stopped since. I understand there is a separation between new school and old school but I think most new school players misunderstand us old schoolers. Honestly sometimes we do come off as condescending but mostly we just want you to understand that we’ve experienced every Halo. We have a fundamental understanding of how Halo works on a level any newcomer couldn’t understand not because we are “better” but because simply put we’ve played more and played them all. I could certainly understand if you started with Reach or 4 why you wouldn’t understand why Sprint doesn’t work or why descope is crucial. I also understand that your opinion has merit and matters. With that being said I would like you all to understand that our opinions are not based on “raging nostalgia” but on experience. Halo 2 changed drastically from Halo CE(my fav of the series) but I still loved it. No I didn’t like the huge auto aim or ridiculous lunge length but it was still Halo. Old school players are willing to look past certain flaws if the game can still be challenging and fun and we did that in Halo 2 and 3. We aren’t “stuck in our ways”. I still play Halo CE and 2 on XBC and LAN so nostalgia is not a factor for me. I love the Halo series and hope Halo 5 gets back on track but also adds new elements that add to gameplay. Hopefully this post gives new school players an understanding on the old school point of view.
Well said, good sir!
A lot of these things constantly decried are or would be good if they were only present where they ought to be. Like (opinions here) Loadouts being harmful to the Matchmaking environment for the most part, but a great tool for Customs and logical in Spartan Ops. Or Jetpack making for a gateway to fascinating multi-tiered maps if removed from the field on maps that were not built with Jetpack in mind and present only on maps that it fits in.
And yes, nostalgia is real and can cloud the judgement but good hindsight combined with logical foresight born of experience should not be confused with it.
I think the problem here is that the “purists” don’t seem to want any amount of change. Obviously that’s not true, but I can see how the community would think that based on the posts here. And yes, the generally condescending attitudes don’t help either.
But I agree that the newcomers should stop accusing the vets of suffering from “rampant obsessive nostalgia.” I’m sure nostalgia does indeed play some part, but I’ve yet to speak to someone who wants absolutely no change.
I think there’s making a valid point, then there is having a dug-deep chip on shoulder boosting ‘forum ranks’ with rinse-repeat statements.
Lack of effort posts whenever Halo 4 is brought up is an example of point A, literally no one wants to say what they hadn’t repeated a million times as if it will change things…

Hi!, I too have been here since the beginning, I’ve played tons of every halo’s multiplayer (but the first for rather obvious reasons), and I have been arguing for Sprint all week. Here’s the thing, I don’t want Sprint to be the norm, I understand how Sprint damages competitive play, but certain people on this forum are greatly exaggerating it effect on gameplay, for the sake of completely removing a feature they personally don’t like, parroting blatant bull -Yoink- like, “it’s an all or nothing thing” or “it completely destroys halo”. There’s an easily achieved happy median here but certain belligerent “nostalgic fanboys” simply ignore it, rejected any counter-arguments and accuse the opposing fanbase of being ignorant of “their halo”.
I don’t care if halo 5 is mostly non-sprint playlists, I’ll enjoy it anyway because I -Yoinking!- love playing halo, but i won’t have a feature i have a lot fun with complete removed because a bunch forum zombies won’t listen to reason and demand that a triple A franchise serve the them and only them.
Just because you feel strongly about the way you think the game should be played, doesn’t mean you have the right to condescend or condemn the way other people have fun.
No matter you elitists say, I will continue defending things I enjoy, and I don’t expect you to stop doing the same.
This isn’t a misunderstanding, it’s a difference of opinion.

Sprint completely destroys Halo.
> Sprint completely destroys Halo.
Recycling statements to invalidate others’ opinions is a cheap and easy way to boost your forum rank.
Purist attitudes only become elitist when said purist begins to argue that their opinion matter more or is correct because or superior skill of greater experience and so on.
This is made worse by the fact that a good number of people on these forums can neither read well or reason their way out of a paper bag.
> Sprint completely destroys Halo.
Clever
A Facetious exaggeration at best, but I expected as much.
This wasn’t meant to turn into yet another sprint debate. Seriously guys, try to keep the argument in the 5 other threads we already have on the first page alone.

I don’t think forum rank really means anything…
I mean, forums are for debating, are they not? And even if someone brings up a topic as beaten to death as sprint, there’s still bound to be an argument because the community (on here at least) is so divided on the subject. That being said, Sawtooth didn’t really back his statement with anything, but instead of doing the same by whipping out the “opinions” statement, you could have asked him specifically to explain why, or explain to him yourself why its not true. We’re here to discuss, not to attack.
No we don’t need another freaking Sprint debate, you’re not helping.
Find an actual point to bring up, rather than white knighting his spam post.

This is considered white knighting? All I’m saying is that neither of you are being very constructive.
OT: I’m a classic Halo fan, but that doesn’t mean I’m elitist or purist. While I dislike Infinity, I’m not opposed to having a gametype and custom game options dedicated to those settings, so I’m not elitist. And I am also open to new ideas to be brought to Halo. For example, the Gungoose in H2A is an awesome new idea that puts a different spin on the classic Mongoose. Were I a purist, I would shoot that idea down immediately. I’m also open to Spartan Abilities, but I’ll obviously be reserving judgment until I get to see them myself.
Halo 5 shouldn’t be a complete copy of Halo 3 and add nothing to the sandbox, but sprint has shown through two games it just doesn’t preserve the Halo 1-3 experience.
343i needs to try something new like default thrusters or anything different, but that’s just because sprint isn’t ideal.
343i removing sprint and literally going back to Halo 3 mechanics would be stale and stupid, but they need to try a new mechanic which enhances the gameplay.
?Thrusters>Sprint?

Takes less than seconds to read this post Duhh, absolutely disappoint.

lol ok fine. I wish the community didn’t have to be so childish and derisive towards one another. We’re mostly mature people who love the same franchise, why can’t everyone just stay nice, civil, and united but with differing opinions?
I remember when the Halo community mocked COD all day and we stayed united on that, what happened to those days :’)
The equal start playlists that purists ask for are often among the least populated - in Reach & Halo 4. What’s that say?
Do the purists want to force everyone into their game type/style preferences?
Why did Bungie, the creator of Halo 2/3, totally abandon equal starts with Destiny?
> I remember when the Halo community mocked COD all day and we stayed united on that, what happened to those days :’)
People grow up, that’s what happens.
EDIT: If I had a nickle for every time someone used that defense…
EDIT 2: By the way Duhh1, I reported you for hijacking the thread. Get off the internet and read a book or whatever.
btw who’s going to buy Destiny? Opinions on that?

Those playlist aren’t that populated because we don’t play Reach or 4.
We don’t wanna force evey game to be equal starts. Nobody has said that.
