Halo population rant

Why do people use Halo’s population as way of proving whether or not Halo is alive or dying? Lets stop and think here, sure Halo 2, and Halo 3 had these insane populations that had sometimes over 1,000,000 people online. But Halo 2 also had practically no multiplayer competitors compared to todays market. Halo 3 had insane numbers, but they dipped once people got into CoD 4, and even if the numbers still stayed high. It’s mostly only because people already had purchased Halo 3 and decided to play it once and a while when they weren’t playing CoD 4. I’m just sick of people going on and on about how Halo 1, 2, and 3 were the peak of this series when all they are doing is rehashing nostalgic memories. Halo 4 has a large fan base. Unfortunately, it probably won’t ever be bigger than CoD’s due to the fact that Halo has a much steeper learning curve, which is why Halo doesn’t have CoD’s population anymore. Either way let me know what you think below and as always try and be respectful and mature.

I would thank this post. If I didn’t forget how to :frowning:

Yeah i would agree with that. Halo is now seen as more of an “exotic” multi-player experience.

CoD is now the Linear

And sadly, being good at CoD doesn’t usually make you good at Halo, so the communities don’t normally mix between each other.

Just click menu and it’s the first option to the right, and thank you for reading. : )

Halo will always be around. COD will always be around.

Halo had it’s prime during original xbox and later first launch on the 360 (H3). COD4 is an astounding game and was Halo’s only competition.- Halo = XBOX

  • COD = XBOX, PS3, PC, OTHEROf course COD will have higher numbers and larger fan base. Microsoft wants Halo exclusive and small, by intent.

Halo would have to endure major breakthroughs in gaming exp to top off repetitive titles such as COD, which was failed to accomplish in Halo 4.

Halo’s population will always remain steady and lower than other games.

I think the population might rebound/ despite the drop within the week/ give it time. AND hopefully after some TU or wait for the holiday season :P/ mostly likely increase the population. True halo fan’s will come crying back, “eventually”. XD

There’s also 2 other halo games that are very much alive. There was only halo 2 and 3 now there’s 3/reach/4. 3 halo games splitting the community. Now add in major competition and you get lower numbers.

I’m sure the population will be boosted after the holidays and title updates, but I just think it really isn’t fair to 343 to compare the market they made Halo 4 in. That’s why I wrote this thread; people who say Halo 4 fails and has a low population because it isn’t Halo 2. No, Halo 4 has a lower population due to other shooters PLUS game like competitive fighters joining the online scene this generation. 343 really deserves more credit than they are getting, they had a TON of odds working against them. 343 had to top what Bungie already did with the series on their first title, with a console that is practically ancient. I know the game isn’t perfect and it has it’s glitches and small problems, but it’s a huge step forward for the series and honestly the first title, since Halo 3 that feels new and ambitious. FYI I did love Reach, but it is far from Halo 4’s level.
