Halo Players - How Important is Player Customization to You?

Extremely important even back in the days of halo 1 where you just got 1 solid color it was a big deal to me and then with halo 2 we got to choose multiple colors then in halo 3 we go proper armor customization which was a huge deal for me getting to work hard to unlock cool looking armor was an incredible feeling ill never forget when odst came out my small friend group worked our -Yoink!- off to do all the vidmaster challenges and unlock recon so seeing customization being not only monetized but also stripped down to where we can’t even really choose our own colors is very upsetting to me

For me it is very important and unfortunately I am very disappointed in the system that 343 put in Infinite… Instead of going forward they did a 180 in the opposite direction that is just terrible. In the past earning certain armor or mastering a Commendation was a right of passage and a way to show off your hard work. However, now we have a terrible armor coating system with very little ways to create a unique Spartan.
Infinite needs an overhaul an it has not even launched yet.

Just makes me laugh because I once unlocked the Katana on a fresh account the same day I made it. Really wasn’t as laborious as people are making out.

I’m in the camp where gameplay rules all. Everyone could be in a default skin and I wouldn’t care if it means the game is good.

I will buy stuff in the store if I like it enough and to support the game.

Making the experience rewarding (Unlocking cool armor and customization) is half the game to me to be perfectly honest.

I absolutely HATE battlepasses because of how boring and linear they are. You just grind through it with no other thought input.

With Halo: Reach’s progression and unlock system you leveled up and unlocked more armor BUT you had to pick and choose what to spend your credits on. That’s what made it special. You actually made the decision yourself to spend credits on a piece of armor or save your credits instead for a big ticket item like an armor effect.

If Halo Infinite had Halo: Reach’s credit system I would be perfectly happy. Besides the lack of content of course…

Very important. It’s been key part of the multiplayer experience since the early days.

On top of that, it’s acts as a symbol of accomplishment for both casual and hardcore players.

This game could have zero customization and I’d still play it.

Customisation is not very important to me. It’s all about the gameplay and Infinite has pretty much nailed it.

The only armour I take notice of is that ridiculous one with the big horn. Those players deserve to be shot and tea-bagged first.

Other than that I happily check out any new piece and if it looks better than what I have I replace it.

It’s important, but not in this current state. Right now the only things that mean anything are the weekly ultimate challenges and comp rank. Unlocking armor used to be about completing actual challenges, like solo legendary, or finding all the skulls. Or even just time spent and playing the game various ways, like the unlocks from commendations in 4.

But 5 and Infinite fall short in that regard. These unlock systems are meaningless and only show how much you’re willing to waste on a video game. Even the Battlepass armors are meaningless because you can just buy your way to 100, and it’s been happening a good amount.

And it wasn’t even about the customization. The point was to unlock all the armor through accomplishing everything the game had to offer. Now, that’s locked behind timegated challenges and a TON of money. The armor you’d actually wear was just self expression, which to some was to show off what they’d earned but to others was just their favorite designs.

But right now, you can’t show off accomplishments (except the weekly) AND you can’t self express because even with investments, you can’t use kit coatings, armor is locked to cores, the coatings and customization options themselves are severely limited, and we’re being drip fed more behind more FOMO practices, including the store and weeklies.

It’s a -Yoink!-. Even if you don’t care about customization, you should be upset about what they’ve taken from the game because getting away with it will just set the precedent that they can take away more.

I don’t care about customization a single bit. When I started playing halo (CE on PC) you had one armor and a few colors. Playing the game is about gameplay and having fun. Not what pixels someone else sees me as when I’m in their crosshairs. To be honest I could care less what other people look like either. U r simply a red or blue target. 343 should focus on the fun that keeps players coming back for more. Focus on maps, and weapons, and game modes that are fun. Not battle passes and trying to be the next fortnite.

That’s my 2 cents as an old school gamer who is about the game, not trying to look cool.
