I have never played Fortnite or any of these popular F2P games.
I am seeing a lot of negative feedback on Battlepass and the cost of armors etc…
For individuals that have played halo in the past, how important are these things for you MP experience?
People like what they like. I don’t care to these armors. I saw a piece of kit that I liked, and used some Bing Reward points to get it. However, I am too old and busy to be a slave to Battlepass objects.
I will play the game when I want and on my terms. But I do respect those that are having trouble reconciling 343i’s direction on this matter.
In halo, having cosmetics was a symbol of achievement. Halo 3, if you saw someone with a security helmet and a katana on their back, you knew they put time and effort into the game. Now it’s just a gimmic. It really makes the customization bland and the pursuit of achievements less intense.
Being able to customize your spartan has been a staple of Halo since 3, There doesnt seem to be any free customization options at all in MP or the campaign and the armour core system just makes it even worse
I don’t need a million options but it would be nice to have at least 5 options per customization slot to just start out.
Also, all basic colors should be unlocked as base as well. If you want to put colors behind a paywall then they can be more special colors like metallic finishes or something else.
Customization in this game absolutely sucks. But…is that a consequence of it being in beta form?
Its not super important to me…but…who would have ever thought there’d come a day and time where a halo player is expected to feel exited over unlocking a darker shade of red…
Not a deal breaker for me. Would be cool to have some more achievement based customization. Cant remember if it was 4 or 5 but I have always pushed to beat the campaign as soon as it comes out on legendary. Beat it in one sitting and assumed I would get some sick armor for that achievement but got nothing lol. Be nice if they had custom armors for 100 wins/1000 wins/100k wins etc. Like I said not a deal breaker for me I am loving the game play and that is what’s most important to me.
It’s second to gameplay but a close second for me.
Having a good run is its own reward, but unlocks were always a way to measure progress over time, or even personal achievement in the game. Right now all this game leans on for that is your ELO rank, which is okay…but not what we want.
For me personally being able to customize myself in game is the reason i play at all. Sure in the bery beginning it was just a little color, but when halo 3 added unlock based custom arnor i was all over it, doing everything i could for more unlocks, when i got everything i kept goin just because i was proud i got fhe armor i did. Then reach came out and i went further still just to get every available item. Same in 4. In 5 i only bought the packs i couldnt earn, but i bought them because i was grateful everything else was earnable. But this? This is a disgrace. Even the article they put out last December stating players first and freedom to customize was removed to hide it.
Player customization in general creates a sense of difference from one player to the next. I for one understand that not all players should look the same nor should there be a massive scale of customization. I think the overall objective should be something rather clean such that everyone feels they are achieving something while simultaneously accruing these customizations not through monetary means but through hard work. The Hayabusa and Security Armor and Katana for example from Halo 3. Overall, customization is only as necessary as you want it to be. This game and many others follow this same trend for profit gains. Is it worth it? Probably for them more so than the gamer.
It feels realy bad that there is the option to recreate my Reach Armor, one of my most favourite Game Avatars ever. But looking at the leaked shop bundles this will cost me 50€ minimum for the Armor and then I need to hope there will be a shader, close to what I like.
At the moment most of the players are all looking the exact same, some grey, some in Pepsi colours. After all the time that 343 spent talking about giving players the chance to express them self more then ever before…
We knew the coating system wouldn’t be optimal but at the moment you don’t even have the options to use the colours you like THE big selling point of the team-outline system.
You realize how important it is to you once what little customizable options you already had are stripped away
Also, the community should be able to design their own armor and customizable options. We are in 2021 and there’s less capabilities than my 10 yo FIFA game on PC that allowed consumers to create and share roster, kits, and stadium add-ons / updates
For me a basic armour, a colour for FFA/customs, emblem and the service tag have always been enough. The rest is optional so glad I’m not hold back of having fun by all the MTX and progressional frustrations
Last night I joked around saying how I was playing “Halo Infinite while wearing Reach Armor” (AKA I was playing Firefight Reach on MCC), because I have all the Reach armor and making a satire about buying the Battle Pass for the armor.
In serious discussion, armor customization is important because it gives you an identity and a sense of community. I for one like to have my Spartan wearing Military green sage/olive because it’s realistic and having a golden visor just like the Chief!
Customization is very important to me. Paying to customize is an absolute regression and is only excused by the game being “free to play”. But it’s not free. you’re paying with your time. Your slot in a matchmaking game ensures that someone who paid 20 bucks for a piece of armor can show off his pixels to others.
Reddit is a dumpster fire. I have not used it since a certain orange guy got elected and the whole site turned into a political nightmare, where having the wrong opinion would get your ideas getting suppressed and you banned from the community.
I would also add that complete customization was part of their promise and marketing. While it may be technically true that the customization is there, the fact that they make it 100% of dollars to achieve the look you want is the issue.
