HALO PC 1.09 WINDOWS 8 BUG

Windows 8 devices.
Halo 1.09 update.

Issue: Once 1.09 is patched to Halo so far two campaign levels get corrupt. I tested this multiple times and the game always does this ONLY ONCE 1.09 IS UPDATED.

a10 and a30 is effected. (Pillar of Autumn and Halo).

a10: Cannot continue, load, or new game, the mission simply crashes the game as soon as you try to access it. (Gathering exception data).

a30: Any previous saved game will mysteriously revert to the beginning of the level, no matter how far into the game you go. ALSO: The Assault Rifle is glitched.

Strangely I replaced the maps, and even deleted all of them from the maps folder but the game still loads a10 and a30 even if they are deleted from the folder.

But when you uninstall then reinstall the game to its default, UN-updated state the campaign magically goes back to normal, until you proceed to update to 1.09 again.

Note- Even update .08 and previous versions do the same glitch.

Hey CHRISPOCALYP5E,

Thank you for the detailed information outlining the exact issue. Could you send us your dxdiag as well so we know exactly what you’re operating on?

I’m no computer genius… But what is a ‘dxdiag?’
Would you like me to find some specs of my laptop? or find a halo error log?

I am using a Toshiba Laptop. Windows 8.1.
No fancy modifications or additions to effect systems…

I think this might be a legit find, I tested it a dozen times. Get to the mission Halo, then update the game to 1.09 so you don’t need the disc and then bam! first two levels are gathering exception data when you load then up without the disc…

I SOLVED THE ISSUE!!!

I found a directory folder…

C:\Users\CHRIS\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games

In here was a Halo Combat Evolved folder and it had various files.
IT ALSO HAD THE CORRUPTED .MAP FILES that the game loads when you delete them from C drive!!!

All you do is install patch 1.09, show hidden folders go to the above location and find the appdata for CE and delete all files in there and the game goes back to normal!

I never saw this before on my windows 7 or vista laptops… This is just Windows 8. Strange.

Oh fantastic! We’re so excited to hear you were able to resolve the issue on your own. Thank you for passing along the info and let us know if you run into any more trouble.
