I know Diamondback is a massive map, but I would want to see it in reach firefight with a few gauss hogs and an assortment of heavy covenant vehicles instead of generic light infantry.
I would also want to see the Cortana backpack from the reach campaign added.
We definitely need the rest of the halo online maps ported over, I don’t mind which halo ether. The other thing I would like to see added from halo online would be the vehicle skins that were used. for example, the mongoose on Halo online had a darker skin with some company written on it. I also thought this looked way cooler than the reach standard one.
I’ve just got around to looking through this link and I’m gobsmacked that there is so much content that was advertised (and complete) that has not been released. I’m also really curious about that Reach chest plate that never made it to release. When you look at all of the nameplates as well as take into consideration the cut weapon skins from halo 4, and the spartan stances that are only on the 360 version there is enough content there to make another season with minimal effort… I wonder why they have chosen this route
The cortana backpack would be awesome and has been asked for by the community for ages. The only slight issue that I can see with this is it will probably make the cutscene where noble six puts the canister on the back a little bit jank.
I never really considered firefight on these maps, I do wonder if it would be possible though and honestly, it’s a good idea even if the map would be big. I kinda just want the option to play on these maps on the MCC.
The Halo online skins are more or less the same from what I can tell, the only noticeable thing I can see is the mongoose
I wouldn’t be surprised if the crew working on MCC wanted to take a short break from all the updates Halo 3 has been getting. Still, new stuff is always welcome in my book and I’d be happy to see another big update with all sorts of Halo Online goodies in it.
Can’t speak on the maps, but I know for sure that the current batch of armour we just got as of the latest update is the last that was being worked on.
Remember that 343i is winding down development on MCC so I wouldn’t expect big things from here on out. They are just delivering the last of what they were working on (planned for the end of 2021 initially) and moving on entirely. Which, as a side note, is pretty ridiculous that they would attempt to monetise MCC whenever they’re not working on additional content. They just want to monetise existing content that was already agreed to be delivered, but I digress
Last of the new content that was being worked on, the 7 unreleased Halo Online sets were already in the files and functional during Season 5.
really the only thing that’s worth worrying about is the unnamed “Preserve” chest for Reach, and the Pilot Helmet for Halo 3; former as it was never usable though referenced like the Mark VII was, latter as the 343 devs practically disowned it (it may never be updated for the Spartan Biped unless some Digsite member decides to be a total bro in the future and fix it and it’s chest up alongside the ODST chest and shoulders for the Halo 3 Mark VI )
Was the pilot helmet supposed to make it into the armour pool for H3?
Even if this is the last content update, I’m extremely thankful to the MCC team for continuing to crush bugs. In relation to another thread on here titled “Diamondback Map” there was a discussion in that thread on how to implement the map into the game, and to what game it should fall… I asked a MCC Team Dev about this on Twitter and I got a response. Shout out to the dev for explaining this! I appreciate it. I’m posting it here because it might be interesting in the discussion here - https://twitter.com/The_Psycho_Duck/status/1566606979560120320
it’s been one of the most requested since Season 3, however the devs have never acknowledged it. while it could be bumped over to the customization in the exact same way the ODST helmet was in legacy, the chances have been low since about Season 5.
as for the devs explanation on the Halo Online maps, thats basically what I was telling people before too since looking at the map names of Reach ports hinted there was a bit more than just drag and drop at work. I feel like a lot of the reasons people still ask for them to be ported to other games is less to do with it being what they consider a good idea, and more to do with not wanting Halo 3 to get new content.
I know they’re moving on from season sized content drops, but are they moving away from further development all together? Do you have any citations I could read from?
As we think about the future, we’ve had a lot of conversations around how to best support MCC once Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer is up and running. We’ve agreed on two key points: One, we have more MCC work to do and support will continue ; and two, as a studio it’s not ideal to run and continue shipping seasonal updates for two different multiplayer titles concurrently. So, while we very much have more updates coming – including more content, fixes, and features – the manner in which they are delivered is expected to shift. Starting next year, we’re targeting pivoting away from our current seasonal model and cadence to instead focus on smaller MCC updates that can land when they’re ready based on development status and studio roadmap alignment. These updates will continue to be free and will include the unreleased features and content from this year – as well as a continued effort to improve stability and tackle legacy fixes where possible. We still have a lot of goodness to deliver in 2022.
Continued development through 2022 was assured, but no mention of 2023.
I suppose we will see what will become of the future content of this game in the near future. There is still so much potential from unused assets to requested features. It’s also good to see that the MCC is holding a steady community even with infinite and halo 5 still being played to this day.
What brought me to the forums was seeing concept of the skybrige map on youtube. When I saw gameplay of reactor it looked really fun. Then I wondered why it wasn’t added. I wonder if there was technical problems with them?
If we’re talking about Halo Online content overall, I’d like to see the Halo Online Forge Object that allows you to disable boundaries. more than anything else.
Those of us who wanted a Halo 3 port never wanted all this stuff in the game; it’s all garish and doesn’t fit the theme of the actual game. The Halo Online armours are all gross, even the ODST armours don’t fit and the maps stick out like a sore thumb from the rest. It’s like a mandatory mod and I dislike it.
Stuff you can disable is OK but the maps are a no from me.
There definitely is technical issues relating to performance for both; the titular Reactor at the center of Reactor tends to cause the same kind of lag as the server and hologram at the center of waterfall’s map, and while they never disclosed why skybridge went unreleased, its likely the lag would be worse as well since it wasn’t originally made with consoles in mind.
Most people expected those maps to be added with a PC port thanks to how it was the same for Halo Custom Edition (6 PC exclusive maps made by Gearbox for the port) and Halo 2 Vista (2 maps made by Hired Gun for the port). having 3-5 made by Saber Interactive for Halo 3 seems more inline with how all the PC ports were handled for the other games in the original trilogy.
Really people just didn’t want the customization overhaul, and rather had wanted Halo 3’s Chest and Shoulders for the original ODST Helmet restored alongside the Hornet Pilot Chest and Helmet. At most, some people had wanted Halo Online to be added in its entirety to be used as an H3A Multiplayer, since that could have used a lot of the assets from H2A and CEA’s remastered visuals to ground it firmly between Halo 3 and Halo 4.
From what I have read on the release of the edge map and waterfall map, there were technical issues that plagued the map due to the hornet flying around. I read that these issues were later fixed after it was released in the insider program. I have no doubt that similar issues could be fixed for the unreleased maps.
To my understanding, H:O armour was added because the assets were already made. I agree that some of the halo online customizations do not fit very well (if you wear the full gear) into halo 3’s art style. With that said, a lot of the content does blend well with the stock halo 3 customization. I personally prefer the armour that is not from halo online for the spartans, so I do not really use it, it’s nice to have the option though.
The exclusive maps are perfectly cool in relation to being added to the collection. I imagine people would be campaigning for them to be put in if they were not added. I really like the idea that the devs continued to expand the map pool, and with that said if they was not well received they would have not made them for halo online, they would not be a staple that made eldewrito so unique, and 343 would not have taken interest in bringing the H:O content over to the MCC.
I’m curious how people who oppose of content like this (which has already being established) feel about cut content coming to the MCC.
Personally I think it mostly does fit well, especially with regards to tieing together the interim post-war years between Halo 3 and Halo 4. my only serious criticism being that they should have updated the Mark VI to the H2A Campaign model, since most of the issues that persist are from a quality disparity. however that said, I can empathize with the people who were upset by the major changes that had to be made to the bipeds for it all to work, as it does fundamentally change a core aspect of the original game for content that was not as desired as it would have been if they had simply released the original multiplayer it was from and used it there.
Most would be and are typically fine with it, as it visibly originated from the legacy development of the game and generally captures the same look and feel. however some people do also loathe it since they believe the ports should be uncompromising and include no changes period. (Its thanks to these people that all the restored Reach DLC armor is affected by the legacy visuals toggle now, when that toggle was only meant to disable new content not from Halo Reach’s development)
