Halo on PC

After seeing the trailer my interest in the franchise is starting to return. However, if 343 does not learn their lesson from Halo Wars 2 then I would have lost whatever faith I have with them. Its nice to see Halo finally being brought to the PC, but the only thing that would be holding it back is Microsoft stubbornness to release it solely on the windows store. And from watching the performance of Halo Wars 2 on the windows store, that game died absurdly fast compared to its console counter part. This puts me at odds with the franchise due to me abandoning the xbox console in favor of the PC, going back to the xbox is not an option for me due to the sub-par performance the console has given me when Halo 5 was released. So the only way for me to really consider buying Halo:Infinite is if cross-play is properly implemented between the PC and console.

I would like some confirmation on whether or not this feature would be implemented. If this feature is not implemented then please tell me how you will ensure to me that this will not be a dead game a month after launch.

I really hope they do bring it to PC coming from a console player. It would be great if halo made a return to pc i think it would really hope it grow again. After seeing all of these modded games and how well they are doing with all the fan support behind it it’s very possible it would release on pc. I know 343 wants to release it on pc because they know how many fans are still there but it’s really Microsoft that’s holding them back.

Do you mean whether you can buy a copy of Halo Infinite on PC you will get it on Xbox as well?

Or are you referring to cross platform play between PC and Xbox? If you are referring to the latter, FPS cross platform play is a big no no for competitive play. However, they could possibly allow campaign co-op and firefight (if its in the game) or custom games for cross platform play. Actual ranked MM however, should not be allowed.

Gears 4 allowed it and had interesting results where the Windows and Xbox gamers actually posted similar stats, implying no inherent advantage. FPS’s on the other hand benefit too much from the advantage a mouse and keyboard brings, plus the 144+fps that we could bring to the table for even faster response times than the Xbox’s can manage would make it unfair for competitive play.

They could try balancing it out with aim assist but so far attempts in the past to balance the two have failed, either not being effective for the controller or by nerfing the mouse into oblivion to the point a controller is the recommended way to play.

So basically you want to alienate most the fans that have either left to PC or PS4 is what you are saying with this “balance”.

You cannot have a competitive matchmaking experience in the FPS market between mouse and keyboard users and controller users. It is simply not fair and risks Xbox players being at a disadvantage. Co-op and unranked modes sure but MM ranked? No.

I have always played on the PC over consoles. You sound like you recently made the switch. Go and play any FPS game with an Xbox One controller and see how well you get on.

I don’t know…I love my PC in all, but if every Xbox game is available on PC, why even own an Xbox? Microsoft might as well ditch the Xbox in a way then or sell it as a basic PC or something, I don’t know.

I kind of like console exclusive titles…or make it so it’s out on Xbox first and then comes to PC a year or two later or something along these line. Exclusives matter, if you don’t believe me look at PlayStation and how well they have kicked the crap out of Microsoft this generation in almost every area.

If they pull a GTA V it’ll work perfectly; continue to update the game regularly with content, release it a year early on Xbox then release it a year later on PC

I assume you are aware the rift that is created between the “halo purist” and “new crowd” correct?

I say that is a myth and a lie spread by youtubers that went through the stages of denial regarding their once beloved Halo franchise being killed by incompetence, arrogance, and indolence. What really happened was the majority of the fan base that loved halo for what is was are simply disengaged from the franchise entirely and have packed up their things and left. This includes community leaders, exellent forgers, machinima creators, critics, mlg competitive players, casuals; all the pieces necessary to create a healthy franchise, is now gone. A nice and shiny halo game is not going to bring them back, when these players will most likely have to upgrade to the “latest” and “greatest” xbox x. There is a wealth of creativity within the PC community that could enrich the custom game community that were comparable to the days of Halo:Reach. All 343 needs to do is reach out to them with the product they wanted for years.

But what I do not get with your reply is why are you caring about a publisher, who simply owns the rights to an abused ip. That now funds an incompetent developer studio; from looking at their track record; to create the halo games you consume. Why do you care about the artist, when you should be caring about the art that was produced? From looking back over 343s past projects; Halo 4, Master Chief Collection, Halo 5 guardians, Halo Wars 2. All these games were the byproduct of greed, and incompetence. They sold out completely in halo 4 and tried to copy mechanics of other games. The master chief collection was rushed out the door and it took a year for them to make the game “workable”. The armor, customization, and warzone is riddled with micro transactions. How can you say with a straight face you care about microsoft when they are doing such a dis service to the fans of HALO not MICROSOFT?

I get what Microsoft are doing. They don’t want to lose Xbox gamers, but I think porting Halo games to PC after Xbox release is effective enough for what they want. They have no good reason to withhold Halo from PC players entirely. They should hire a third-party to port The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians to PC while 343i work on Halo: Infinite.

P.S. Limiting games to the Microsoft store absolutely hurts sales. They should abandon that idea entirely.

If you want a Halo game on PC, you can go out and purchase Halo 2 Vista.

Eh a year later is a bit much. My guess is a few months later at most. Most likely, 343i will partner with another dev to help with porting to the PC while 343i focuses efforts on the One/One X (kinda like how Gearbox helped port Halo CE to PC). Just my two cents.

Let’s be real here. The only reason to buy an Xbox is to play Halo. And considering the community backlash from Halos 4 and 5, many decided not to buy an Xbox, and buying it now, for ONE game is ridiculous.

Halo started on PC anyways. And besides, if they really need to push a product, it’ll be Windows 10 now.

Why are you trying to care about a product that is not related to the Halo franchise? This thread is about what is best for the franchise as a whole, not selling xbox ones. Are you oblivious to the performance 343 has done to meet deadlines set by microsoft, because they needed to push the xbox brand? You cannot push a console if the potential content it can provide has a stigma of horrible releases in the minds of many consumers. I will give 343 one thing, and that is they have created a horrible stigma around the Halo franchise. So like I encouraged Dead End 24, focus on what is best for the art, not the artist.

Halo 1 PC was my #1 most played game on PC. I’d still play it if it had updated graphics & more population.

Eh based on the recent Build conference and their changes in focus in previous years to AI and services, Windows seems less like a focus than it did under Balmer. Windows Phone is dead and MS is now supporting Android and iOS with its software and web services instead of trying to make a competing phone OS. Look at Microsoft’s stance on Linux recently under Satya Nadella vs Microsoft under Balmer. Not saying Windows is going anywhere, but the days of Windows being the big focus of MS are kinda starting to get behind it. Several tech blogs wrote articles about it recently including the Verge. Pretty interesting. Anyways, while they are kinda trying to make Xbox gaming and Windows 10 gaming kinda the same platform (I think in a few generations XBox will be just a brand for its game publishing and streaming), saying that they are going in hard on Windows 10 over the XBox brand is not completely accurate.

Honestly I’d bet money that to keep fan entertained inbetween this announcement and the release of Halo Infinite they’ll add MCC to PC. Additionally I wouldn’t be surprised if they have Halo Infinite on PC as well.

This but unironically.

I fully support the Halo series being on the PC.

I also look forward to seeing more Halo games on the PC going forward.

As a side note splitscreen on PC would also be awsome.
