Halo: ODST suddenly is DLC?

I’ve been playing MCC for years now and I can recall when ODST was FREE and not something extra to pay for. I played it through MCC multiple times, gaining many of the achievements for it. I also recall having paid for the original game upon its release as well as paying for the MCC. So WHY is it suddenly a DLC we have to pay for after it was free to play for so long? This should not be the case. It should still be free, just like the other games in the MCC. I’m not paying for a game I’ve paid for already - technically twice. So please desist this and return ODST to the MCC alongside the other games as free content like you did originally.

Seriously, this was not a nice thing to do.

Halo ODST was only free to those who played at launch. It was part of the compensation for such a botched launch of MCC. The compensation was ODST campaign and a month of Xbox gold. I can’t recall the excat window for those who qualifed for those items as it was so long ago. But any one who got MCC after the compensation has to purchase ODST as they weren’t around for when MCC was truly bad.

It was free only for those who played MCC the first months after its release as a “gift”.

This was because the game, as many of us know well, suffered with connection problems, bugs and constant crashes. If i rememer correctly, we also receive a code for 1 month of Xbox Live Gold.

I think he is saying that he owns it and got it for free but there is a bug telling him to re-buy/download it.

Ah I see, very strange. His account says he has yet to play MCC. So I would have to ask, as I only have one account on my gold subscription. Do all accounts get the same DLC? For example if I download DLC for a game on one account do all accoouts get that same DLC?

All accounts on one Xbox get access to the same DLC (and Gold subscription) as the account(s) for which that Xbox is set as the Home Console.

In other words, if I have an account with the ODST DLC and Xbox Live Gold, and I choose to set my friend’s Xbox as my Home Console, I will still have access to my digital library and Xbox Live Gold features if I sign in on another console, but only my Home Console will get those benefits while I am signed out.

If some account on OP’s console owns the ODST DLC and has the console as the Home Console for that account, then OP should be able to access ODST for free on any of their accounts. Alternatively, if OP’s MCC account has ODST on it, then there may be an issue with content recognition. OP, I would suggest setting your current console as the Home Console if you are able, as you may be able to fix recognition issues this way. Otherwise, you should always have the account that owns ODST signed in.

Also, ODST launched as a $5 DLC back in 2015, but it was given out for free to any account who played a game of MCC before 12/19/14 as compensation. 343 won’t take away an account’s ownership of the ODST DLC, so there’s almost certainly something else going on here.

Yes, because it was free to me initially, as I got the MCC at launch, it should be free now but since the November update it isn’t.
I honestly don’t know why MCC isn’t showing up on my Halo Waypoint account - I do have multiple achievements on my actual console though as verification.
EDIT: Actually my campaign stats for MCC ARE on here. I don’t know why you could not see them.

Hmmm…have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the ODST add-on? You’re correct, you should not have to pay for it again. I can confirm that I have not had to pay for it at all, and I can still access it.

As for why it does not display for us, my guess is that your account’s privacy settings are configured to disallow certain players from seeing your content (most likely people who are not on your friend’s list).

Ahhhh… that would make a lot of sense. It’s been a while since I’ve looked at my privacy settings.

I would be uncertain as to how to uninstall and reinstall it alone as opposed to the whole game. The only thing it ever comes up with it the “Store” link.

Ah, okay. In the Games and Apps section of the Xbox One, highlight MCC and press the Menu button. Then go to Manage Game & Addons. From there, you should be able to see if ODST is installed or not and fix it.

Thank you for the future reference info! Though the problem is actually centered around the fact it is not installed when it ought to be.

Gotcha. In that case, when in the Manage Game section, check the Ready to Install section. If your account ever owned the ODST add-on and it isn’t installed, it will appear there. Let me know if it doesn’t show up.

Ok so it’s not there. I think I’ll have to ask xbox directly for help on this matter. Thank you all for your help and suggestions! I very much appreciate it.

If you previously did own it, it should be linked to the account that received the entitlement for it. I would definitely contact the store to have them look at what happened to the entitlement. As long as you are using the original account that owned it you should have it.

I am - thank you!
