More likely marketing. They wouldn’t want their flagship to not be in the top 10 since it would make their company look bad and would hurt the IP too. I’ve learnt enough over the years to not take company’s at their word.
Sorry gotta completely disagree with this.
Halo either was a billion dollar number one franchise or it wasn’t…and it was.
It matters.
This shows the game probably just needs to be retired at this point.
The community of old school fans want one thing…other players won’t touch it as it feels too dated and limited…and the devs/microsoft want what they want.
Can’t please the community
Can’t let the game grow of the community will reject it
Microsoft wants to milk it forever
etc etc
It just may not work anymore.
Should have just remastered the MCC and Every game into the complete package and made it a staple of Game Pass.
But the community and Microsoft can’t let it go…so…watch it be in this state from here on…same as gears.
I’m one of those people that stopped playing. I came back into it today and I’m VERY surprised that all they added/fixed is the playlist options…that’s it.
I left not because the gameplay is bad, and not because the store angers me.
I left because the game is repetitive with nothing to earn. Same maps over and over. There’s no Spartan rank. And there’s hardly anything to play and win games for. Also the challenge system is counter intuitive and hurts gameplay directly.
Rlly baffled as to how 343 can just release such a good game, hit the ground running full force and then choose to instead sit just outside the finish line and not do anything.
I guess I’ll pop in every once in awhile to see how the game is doing, but they’re really missing the mark, and every day that passes is hurting halo infinite.
Also…on topic/off topic Destiny is and has always been a garbage game inside and out. Terrible game. I can’t understand why ppl play that.
It’s deceptive.
People thought the armor lockers would have armor in them, but not one armor locker has any armor.
Your conclusion that it isn’t scummy is the bizarre one.
It is comparable.
They’re using FOMO to get people to pay a lot more.
Maybe you could say the challenge swaps are somewhat worse, but they’re still around the same level.
It isn’t inherently scummy, as padding is often needed in games, especially open-world games.
However, it’s scummy here.
Challenge swaps, XP boosts, shoulder pad separation and several other things shouldn’t be in the Battle Pass.
I really can’t stand the fact that some people are now okay with anything as long as it’s not loot boxes.
Loot boxes were almost next-level scummy, but that doesn’t mean what was before those was good or even okay…
Maybe if companies somehow make something worse than loot boxes, people will start accepting loot boxes too.
What will you say then if loot boxes also become the norm because they’re not quite as bad as something else?
That I agree with, but it’s still scummy even if it’s somewhat less scummy.
People thought the armor lockers would have armor in them, but not one armor locker has any armor.
Is there a large portion of players that bought the campaign because they were advertised “armor lockers” and their sole impetus for paying $60 was for cosmetics?
They’re using FOMO to get people to pay a lot more.
I just vehemently disagree. I know there’s direct evidence that using time limited stores as a way to encourage monetization, but I don’t think this even comes to close to the level of RNG purchase. I also don’t think it’s particularly scummy. It isn’t deceptive marketing, you know exactly what you’re getting and there’s nothing random about it.
Challenge swaps, XP boosts, shoulder pad separation and several other things shouldn’t be in the Battle Pass.
I don’t understand how this is scummy. Players can see the padding before they decide to purchase the battle pass. They know exactly what they’re getting for $10 (it’s ten bucks right? can’t remember without loading up the game). Forgetting about the padding, there’s definitely $10 worth of cosmetics in that pass. Do I wish there was less padding? Sure. I’d always prefer more cosmetics in place of the million XP boosters that are just sitting around in my inventory.
Loot boxes were almost next-level scummy
I agree. That’s why I usually break it down as: Crappy < Scummy < Predatory.
What will you say then if loot boxes also become the norm because they’re not quite as bad as something else?
I guess I’ll add ultra-predatory to my list.
That I agree with, but it’s still scummy even if it’s somewhat less scummy.
There’s only one reason I’d even remotely call colors scummy, and that’s because they’re usually used to pad bundles. Having a $10 bundle with only one good cosmetic item in it, but forcing me to “pay” for a generic blue color actually borderlines on crappy/scummy. This is more of an issue with being forced to buy bundles and not allowing me to pick and choose what I want to buy, as opposed to it being the color coating’s fault.
I wouldn’t know exactly how many people expected to get armor unlocks in the campaign.
If you buy something with a card and the company that sold you the item overcharges your card, are you just going to shrug it off with “At least I knew what I was getting”?
Just because what you’re buying isn’t “random”, it doesn’t make everything acceptable.
This obviously isn’t as bad as that example, but again, my point is that things don’t need to be random to be unacceptable.
Also, I didn’t say that it was deceptive.
It’s preying on people’s fear of missing out.
If you don’t think that’s predatory, you need to look through a dictionary.
Challenge swaps shouldn’t exist.
Players should be able to swap anytime.
As you’ve also said, the way that the challenge system is designed seems scummy.
XP boosts shouldn’t exist.
Players should be able to adjust the rate they earn the items they paid for.
It doesn’t upset the balance of the game, and even if it somehow did, buying XP boosts would have the same result.
Maybe add an achievement and a reward for completing each Battle Pass without changing the progression rate to encourage playing through the passes normally, and a reset option to lock everything again so people can get the achievements and rewards.
Separating shoulder pads and other items is just creating an illusion of more content.
Also, they shouldn’t be stretching the season so far.
The first season is 6-7 months.
That’s two seasons.
With how fast people are going through the Battle Pass, they should be releasing a new pass every 2 months or making several tiers, rather than padding it with things that shouldn’t be in the game or should already be unlocked.
“Crappy” is when a game releases with obvious bugs.
“Scummy” is when a game releases without much content and drags out what content it does have.
“Predatory” is when a game releases with systems designed to use flaws and patterns in the minds of players to get them to buy things or to overpay.
Well, add it to your list, because ultra-predatory schemes are how we even got to this point.
Simple color coatings being sold at all is scummy, and better customization not being in the game is crappy verging on scummy.
PC players swapping to console
Lol.
I’m not talking about the original games and the newer ones haven’t had a huge player base with long term population. Halo will always have a smaller core player base, but I’m talking about sustaining numbers that could compete with popular games.
It wasn’t the only reason but it was a factor I took in consideration when I decided not to buy the game. First Halo game I have not purchased.
You’re saying Halo isn’t popular enough anymore to have a playerbase that can sustain the game?
I think he’s saying that its more so sad that it has lost so much momentum as a series that it had no business losing had better decisions been made in running it
I don’t think so.
They said even if it was a perfect game, it wouldn’t have a big playerbase because of how long it takes to kill, a lack of a battle royale mode and gameplay that’s more traditional.
If you buy something with a card and the company that sold you the item overcharges your card, are you just going to shrug it off with “At least I knew what I was getting”?
This isn’t analogous at all to what we’re talking about. Are you talking about overdrafting or overcharging? If someone overcharges my card, as in the shelf price was $10 and they charged me $20, I’d absolutely complain. If 343 listed something at 2000 credits and charged me 3000 credits, I’d absolutely complain. 343 isn’t overcharging people as far as I’m aware. If something is listed as 2000 credits, it takes 2000 credits from your balance.
If you don’t think that’s predatory, you need to look through a dictionary.
Predatory: inclined or intended to injure or exploit others for personal gain or profit
Exploit: to make use of meanly or unfairly for one’s own advantage
Having a rotating store of cosmetic only items isn’t “unfair” in my opinion.
The first season is 6-7 months. That’s two seasons.
I’ll be honest, I really don’t care about this entire section. You’re just rambling off random improvements that don’t have anything to do with the points I was making. I agreed that there should be less padding. Then you rambled about XP boosters (I don’t really care), Challenge Swaps (I don’t really care), Adding in random features for achievements (I don’t care), Separating Shoulder Pads (Again, I already said there’s too much padding), the length of seasons (Nothing to do with what you quoted).
“Crappy” is when a game releases with obvious bugs.
Games will always release with obvious bugs. This is a fact of game design and it will never change.
“Scummy” is when a game releases without much content and drags out what content it does have.
This doesn’t meet my criteria for scummy. There are about a hundred things that could cause a game to release like this, and none of it has to do with nefarious design practices.
“Predatory” is when a game releases with systems designed to use flaws and patterns in the minds of players to get them to buy things or to overpay.
Your definition is too broad. “Designed to use flaws and patterns in the minds of players” could literally apply to anything that gets people to spend money. If I’m running the store and I see the data that players go absolutely bananas over cat ears, and then I make a dog ears attachment and it does just as well as the cat ears, I have knowingly become predatory. Literally using any marketplace data to decide which content to invest in would fit your definition of predatory.
Simple color coatings being sold at all is scummy
Hard disagree. If a player wants to buy the perfect shade of blue for their spartan, and they want to spend $5 to get it, I couldn’t care less. Everyone that doesn’t want to buy it still has the regular blue option they started with.
It will always have a playerbase, but I’m saying that it’s never going to have a big playerbase anymore similar to the most popular games that are out there now. It’s not going to be the next Valorant or Fortnite that pops off for the next few years. It will be popular for a time and then it will slowly dwindle to the core playerbase like usual.
because it has almost no content, and no content is in sight.
Great. It’s what 343 gets and deserve!
These posts are funny. Because it was totally the opposite since the release for an entire month. Now players are finally realizing what a dumpster fire this is.
This is what you all get for shilling so hard!
XDDDDDDDDDD
I did the same as well now.
Impossible to play otherwise
It’s analogous, it just isn’t as bad.
It might not be in your opinion, but it is.
It’s meanly and unfairly using people’s fear to get them to buy things quickly.
That wasn’t rambling.
I was saying that challenge passes, XP boosters and the separation of items are a scummy way to pad the Battle Pass, and that the Battle Pass should be released more often rather than being padded in such a way.
I’m talking about things not working that should be easy to find.
Games will have bugs, but it’s not a good sign when the games have bugs like that.
A game shouldn’t release in that state.
I’m not sure how to narrow it down, but I’m talking about things like challenge swaps, XP boosts, etc., and loot boxes.
When they could add a better system or allow players to recolor it themselves, it’s scummy.
Also, they didn’t even include all of the regular colors.
Halo 3 had 30 colors, and you could change the primary, secondary and detail colors for armors using those.
I think it could’ve been that popular, and it might still be able to be that popular, but not at this rate.
@corbister “Widely used” doesn’t mean good. You’ve provided no counter argument, just “aLl GaMeS dO iT tHiS wAy NoW” which proves only that 343 is once again following trends. Current rank system is lame, shallow, and boring. Next.
