Depends. You may not like the writing style of some of the authors. Try Fall of Reach and Cryptum first. Chances are, if you enjoy FoR, you’ll also like First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx as they’re written by the same author. Likewise, if you enjoy Cryptum you’ll likely enjoy Primordium. A good place to start may be Evolutions as every story is by different author.

I personally enjoyed most of the novels, though I wasn’t really a fan of The Flood, Cole Protocol or Contact Harvest (I’m yet to read Glasslands and Primordium), though you may be different.

These are exactly my recommendations.

I would start with Fall of Reach, then move on to First Strike, and then Ghosts of Onyx. Nylund’s three novels are fantastic, and will hook you into the rest of the series.

Contact Harvest is very slow to start, but I liked it regardless. Cole Protocol was cool, but I wish it dealt more with Gray Team. The Flood is basically Halo: CE verbatim, so read only if you haven’t played the game, or if you just want to see other characters’ perspectives during the events of the Installation 04 incident.

Depends on the story your looking for. Check some out online.

Read The Fall of Reach like a month ago. It. Was. AWESOME!
Almost done with Contact Harvest. It’s pretty good so far, but it did start a little slow.
After that I’ll start The Cole Protocol or The Ghost of Onyx.

I still have Cryptum, and Glasslands in my possession to read. Still need to get First Strike, The Flood, and Primorium (once it’s in paperback.)

Anyways the two books so far are great, but I heard The Cole Protocol and Glasslands are “bad.”

Read First Strike before Ghosts of Onyx or some of the story will be spoiled for you.

totally!

DEFINITELY although a lot of the authors have different styles so read more then just one book like a lot of people including me had to read cryptum more than once cause it is so hard to imagine everything.

I’ve read all but Primordium (want to finish my current book before diving into that one) and I would recommend starting with Fall of Reach, it’s easily the best of the books, and it’s the one that most of the other stories will build off of.

The only book I would caution you about is The Flood, as it was poorly written and most of it was just a description of the first game. However, if you can slog through it, it does give you some insight into other goings-on during CE’s campaign as well as more information on the covenant side of the story. All the other books (except Primordium maybe, since I haven’t read it yet) are fantastic.

I haven’t read Grasslands or Primordium yet, but I loved all of the Eric Nylund books. They’re a quick read, and add a little depth to the series.

Yes indeed some of the best Sci-fi books I’ve ever read and closes big gaps in the halo cinematic game play giving you a better mental picture on whats going on during the halo universe! I think the Halopedia’s are worth it as well if you are interested. There are two versions

bungie: Original!

343i: updated with reach info and the maps of reach!

BTW the side effects of reading halo books makes u feel like the biggest nerd  which is excellent!

If you enjoy the story and background of the games then you should enjoy the novels. If your a Mm weekend warrior then probably not.Try get one from a library and read it it. If you like it keep going.

This is taking me forever. And I’m normally a “book a day” kind of girl. It’s just dragging on and on. It does get good, right? Please say yes…

It does, I feel sad for the Engineer.

I actually stopped reading this one. Blasphemy, I know, but after the previous books, I felt a little let down.
