Just a question for you guys… Do you think i should read the Halo novels in the order of them being published or in the order of when they happen in the storyline?
I’d say start with Fall of Reach > The Flood > First Strike > Ghosts of Onyx. After that you can pretty much go in any order.
Read the original Fall of Reach, not the republished one. The original is so much better. Read them in the chronological order.
Read them by when they were published EXCEPT read Glasslands RIGHT AFTER reading ghosts of onyx, then do the same with Cryptum and Primordium.
Here is my recommended order:
Fall of Reach
Flood
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Glasslands
Contact Harvest
Cryptum
Primordium
Contact Harvest > The Cole Protocol > The Fall of Reach > The Flood > First Strike > Ghosts of Onyx > Glasslands
Evolutions has stories set all over the Halo lore and Cryptum and Primordium can be read at your leisure.
> Contact Harvest > The Cole Protocol > The Fall of Reach > The Flood > First Strike > Ghosts of Onyx > Glasslands
This is how I’ve been reading them so far! On Glasslands now.
> > Contact Harvest > The Cole Protocol > The Fall of Reach > The Flood > First Strike > Ghosts of Onyx > Glasslands

Hey I never knew you were reading them
I’d read them according to chronological storyline order, with Contact Harvest first to Glasslands (as mentioned above), then read the Forerunner trilogy.
That’s how I’ve been reading them anyhoo. Reading them in stroyline order versus published order makes it easier to follow along and comprehend the events of the Haloverse. When it comes down to it in the end, with the exception of Traviss’ and Bears’ trilogies, they can really be read in any order, it’s not too big of a deal.

Surprise!

Yeah…it is.
Ah well, it doesn’t matter
Pretty much what Kiafry said. I made the mistake of reading “The Flood” and then “First Strike” before reading “Fall of Reach.”
So yeah, read Fall of Reach, Flood, First Strike, then Onyx.
Contact Harvest is a prequel so go with that whenever you want, but I recommend reading it before Cole Protocol.
Also, if you want some easy reads, Halo Evolutions is pretty damn good. f you see them in separate volumes, get Volume 1. I just didn’t like some of the stories that Volume 2 had.

Well that is your opinion but I prefer volume 2. I loved the stories in that. That’s not to say volume 1 was horrible. Both are great IMO.
I read them in order of release, Because I bought them as soon as they’d come out.
I would read them in order of release.

I would say read them chronologically as well. It makes the most sense. I just finished Cryptum and Primordium over the summer and just got Glasslands in the mail yesterday. Can’t wait to start reading it

Yeah, some were pretty damn good, but something about the writing I didn’t like. Mona Lisa felt kind of difficult to swallow with the way it was detailed. Mostly it’s nit-picking I’ve got, but being a literature major does that I guess.
