I am not really liking this new HUD layout and I’m sure I am not the only one. I like the classic layout that we have had in all the past Halo Games. “IF IT AIN’T BROKE DON’T FIX IT”
My reasoning for the dislike of the new HUD layout is simply for the fact that we have to look down the middle to look at the score and down bottom right to look at the weapons info. I feel that it is better the way it was before because it was easier to not lose focus of the middle view focus perspective.
**1)**Look top right for weapon info.
**2)**Look top left for grenades info.
**3)**Bottom Right for Game Score info.
And the Game Score specifically is the most annoying one for me because we have the weapons behind it animating and everything. It was way better where it always was before which was bottom right because of less distractions.
I really hope whoever at 343 that is responsible for the UI takes this feedback into consideration and revert the HUD layout back to the classic one. Or they could also give us the option to customize the layout to our liking. That would be pretty cool. Let me know what you guys think of this.
Totally agree. I never knew what equipment I was carrying because it’s unnatural to check bottom right. Also, I could never see the score while just playing. It’s small and hidden bottom middle. I agree, needs to be restored to some sort of “normal” fashion. I’m ok with them making improvements, just not moving it so drastically.
I DO appreciate that they went for a more classic HUD, but I likewise feel that it did miss the mark a bit. Not only would I like to see the ammo and grenades go back to their original places, I’d also like to see the little graphic for the bullet count in the weapon. I understand that it’s not necessary with a numerical count…but it was always a nifty little thing.
I’m not trying to be aggressive, but what’s the difference between looking at the corners for ammo, score and radar and still having to look at corners for ammo and radar, with the score being in the middle? I honestly prefer it.
I like it the way it is more, personally. Having all of the information for the match needed all lined up nicely at the bottom makes it easy to read the screen quickly, without the info being spread out everywhere which can be distracting. My peripherals can’t read the radar and weapon and score at the same time if they’re so spread out!
I wouldn’t mind seeing a toggle where we could have a classic layout or the new one.

Mainly because you’re looking at the bottom of the screen much less often than the top. If you’re playing and moving normally, you can see the top easily because generally the sky is up there or something brighter and doesn’t take much effort to view. The bottom of the screen is constantly changing as you move around, so the colors just don’t pop as much and you have to make an effort to look down, which takes your eyes off your surroundings.

I highly agree with this I just didn’t really like that the grenades showed up on the bottoms right, and the fact the the score wasn’t where it has always been it just doesn’t feel like a halo game without the classic hud. And I think the abilities should be moved back to where they were as well.

Ooh. I like that layout more than what they actually have in game. I still have one complaint though. In every Halo since Halo 2 at all times I knew exactly which grenade type I had selected without having to avert my eyes from what was going on in game. All of the grenade types were splayed out and in my peripheral vision I could see which one was highlighted/ selected. I could also see what my other grenades were (and how many) without needing to cycle between them. In Infinite, in the heat of combat, I always find myself throwing the wrong type of grenade. It would be nice if in the upper left there could be icons for each grenade type right next to each other with the selected type more visibly highlighted. The equipment icon could be moved over to the upper right corner with your guns or some other reasonable place. I would very much like a HUD resdesign, similar to what you’ve proposed. The HUD they have is okay but I had a few gripes with it.
Also, on ultrawide monitor the hud was all in the corners and harder to see. In MCC you have the option to makes radar and other infos closer to the center of the screen for this very reason.
I agree. It’s a bit annoying checking my corner for my weapons and equipment information. Would much rather check the top as I have better awareness that way.
I definitely prefer weapons, grenades, and equipment up top with shileds. It’s just more seamless to me having all information pertaining to my Spartan up top. Having them all in one place makes it too clustered for me. When they’re up top, in their own locations it’s quicker to find the information I’m looking for. I also prefer the scoreboard to be stacked instead of side by side like it is; I’d also like to see it return to the bottom right of the screen.
I had problems trying to glance over in the bottom right and finding what I was looking for (e.g.: Equipment). It might be that we still need to get used to this new layout but from a design standpoint the bottom right corner is definitely cluttered and heavy to read by the sheer amount of things that are put in that position. Being able to scan read your HUD was in prior games not that difficult because each corner had its own very few select relevant to each other’s information set out. In Infinite it’s pretty much your whole “inventory” and just looking down to the right will have you scan around for the tiny icon, number or location of the thing you’re looking for. This could definitely use some extra work.
