Halo Needs to let us play as covies in custom

Please Vote in the poll and see what gamers like you think should be done.
Gears of War 3 Beast mode left much to be desired but if Halo did something similar it would add tons of diversity to the custom gametype selection, and it wouldn’t be too hard to do. There are obviously different classes of each but through a well built ranking system they could let you unlock them through hard work and dedication. Common sense applies below. Obviously a drone couldn’t fire a spartan laser and that sort of thing. For the most part, if you haven’t seen a species use a certain weapon in any game than they probably can’t wield it. Grunts do have fat fingers.

Grunts (Unggoy) - No shields, single weapon, low jump, etc.

Jackles (Kig-Yar) (With shield) - single weapon, some sort of ememy location assist e.g. they glow red when exposed. Deployable shield. It also need skirmisher type options.

Elites (Sangheili) - already done/same as spartan

Brutes (Jiralhanae) - heavy shields, berzerk abilty when shield is gone.

Drones (Yanme’e) - flight control like Orb mode. Steady aim only when on ground, stick to surfaces.

Hunters (Mglekgolo) - Walking tank.

Prophets (San 'Shyuum) - Maybe for VIP gametypes.

Engineers (Huragok) - Offers shields to team, possibly some way to integrate it’s ability to repair things.

ODSTs - already done

Marines- same as ODST but lesser attributes

Sentinels - …just to cover all basis

Monitors - just because it’s already been done and I want that death beam.

Flood - Infection would be great if when you got infected you played as flood. And if all of the above were added as playable, you could easily have their flood counterparts available. Infection could also have infection forms of flood crawling out of the walls and running around to add to the survival ambiance.

Halo 4 will undoubtedly have new characters but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t be on the list as well.
So who wants to see these as playable? NOTE: NOT FOR CAMPAIGN

What about Elite Grunts with Fuel Rods? Or Suicide Grunts? What about Deacons?

That’s why I mentioned the different classes. And a deacon is a great starting point before unlocking more powerful grunts. I am always up for having options.

Very understandable. I feel however, if they start now they can better polish it in sequels. But I admit there is a definite chance of the final product falling short if they were to attempt this.

I don’t see the reason not to add these for customs. I thought they wanted to encourage machinimas?

They do want to encourage videos, and I see no harm in adding options for custom. It’s a perfect way to test gameplay mechanics without fulling integrating it into the core gameplay. I remember playing honor rule zombies on H2, long before H3 and infection mode. My point is, infection wasn’t a mode but the tools for it were there (Mostly, you had to manually change teams and only use the shotgun as a human and the sword as a zombie) and the community did the rest. Give us the tools to play as covenant and the community will come up with the games.

If 343i adds playable flood (who play just like Spartans with regen shields like flood Spartans or elies) that are playable on custom games forge and SOME mm game types not all and not compet
with also adding custom games/ system link bots for most game types I will hands down buy every halo game that has these features

Unless they in my view mess up halo
please add these in I want them and add more playable species so every one can be happy let people play as grunts it’s their choice if they want to go against some one who is a Spartan or brute

I say let us play as Spartan flood Spartans elites brutes and maybe grunts and forunners idk about the last two playing like a Spartan but the others should be played like a spartan

Eh, most of these are a waste of time & resources. Quite a few of them would be nothing but dull.

Time for a new iconic counterpart to the Spartans in multiplayer. The new enemy should contribute a player model. The Elites and Covies have had their time.

Just for custom games? Ok then I’ll let my casual side go free! Some (not all) of these are designed to piss off people in competitive gameplay. :stuck_out_tongue:

-panic ability: 5 second erratic movement. Can be used 7 times

-slowed down movement speed. I’ve seen the mods. They’re very fast

-should be a bit faster in movement speed

> Brutes (Jiralhanae) - heavy shields, berzerk abilty when shield is gone.

H3 style Brutes with faster grenade throwing and less erratic berserking

-jetpack style flight control. Drones often need to land

-able to cling to surfaces

> Hunters (Mglekgolo) - Walking tank.

-armor should take damage
-remove the necessity to shoot at their exposed back. Just make that aesthetic
-fast running speed (able to keep up with a Spartan like in CE)
-press LT = shield raise/block ability, press B = fast standard melee (classic style), hold B = slow heavy melee (Reach style), click right stick for reverse melee

> Monitors - just because it’s already been done and I want that death beam.

-boost isn’t infinite

-Sentinel style shield shaders so we know we’re getting hits

-laser ability that completely drain’s user’s shield in exchange for a high damaging, very thin beam

-lightens up dark rooms

What if they add these as playable species and new ones and had new and old game types would you still not want them ?
Or is it the concept of being able to play as a grunt or flood bother you ?
How is it a waste of resoures ?

I’ve always wanted to play as a Hunter. I think it would be epic.

It’d be pretty awesome but considering they’re not even letting us play as elites and it’s been said that MP is Spartan only I don’t see this happening, I mean 343i? Cool features that add to the experience instead of changing it? I can’t see it myself.

Only with a dedicated mode, otherwise it would be weird.
