And Halo 4 was hot garbage, so who cares.
Lore is a bad excuse.
Last time I checked we were all here to play Halo, not some other random enhanced mobility shooter pretending to be Halo
“LoRE!!!111!”

Nice joke post. I get it.
Maybe if it was an option.
It’s great for immersion, but it’s awful for gameplay.
The problem is that the gameplay changed a lot from the classic Halo gameplay.
When it changes too much, it alienates the fans, and it might even cause the series to feel generic.
Call of Duty had the same problem, since there is an aspect of the gameplay that people like, and certain changes disrupt it.
Which again. What you interpret as Halo may not be Halo to someone else and even if it was Halo to them they could also say that Halo 2-3 gameplay is stale and that it needs to evelove but still be Halo
Halo 5 is still Halo because it has equal starts. Titanfall doesn’t have equal starts grappling hooks and grappling hooks don’t compare to Halo 5s thruster system
I’m using the helmet hud as an example to show that they attempted realism in an other wise sci Fi game.
You know that thing in sc fi movies where they are clicking random buttons to make the movie have a cool scene of something doing something “complicated”?
I like when games movies or any media tries to logically explain futrustic tech with accurate things. The thrusters don’t just come out your back. Each move has a dedicated thruster and you even saw it in the animation in halo 5.
That’s why I think “evolving” is moving to a more logic based gameplay where realistic elements like gravity and momentum are important to gameplay
You could argue equipment IS that drastic change. Never before has there been a grapple or repulsor or this much equipment in general. I feel alienated because it’s not the equal starts gameplay I’m used to
Halo 4 is still Halo wether you like it or not. Same as reach and any other Halo. This is why there is no “Halo” when all of them play differently. Even halo 3 plays differently than Halo 2.
I don’t see how it’s pretending to be Halo when (see above) and the truster system is part of the lore which also happens to be Canon
This thread exists to call out the hypocrisy of the “you just want Halo 3 2” people. I was able to reword 4 of their most repeated “arguments” to apply to them.
Wait, you said it needs to evolve, but correct me if I’m wrong knowing as bad as this game is right now, removing enhance mobility will make things even worse wouldn’t it?.
Even if something can be explained well in-universe, it doesn’t mean it’s a good addition.
However, I think thrusters are an okay addition.
Really, the movement in Halo 5 didn’t seem that different with them, because the thrusters have a cooldown and don’t move very far.
The Stabilizer was a weird addition however.
Actually, I’d say that there’s less equipment in Infinite than Halo 3.
The difference is that there wasn’t any movement-changing equipment in Halo 3.
There were however movement-changing abilities in Reach and 4, so I wouldn’t say it’s anything new.
For casual play though? It was a sweat fest that didn’t feel fun to play as a predominantly casual player. I don’t want to have to sweat for a win, memorize locations and positioning to have a chance in what is supposed to be a somewhat friendly, casual match.
I played 50 hours of Halo 5, and the most fun I had with that game was in Castle Wars where it was mostly just stupid and mostly just for fun. The rest of the modes just felt way too competitive and boring for my tastes.
“Halo needs to evolve”
You can now drop a weapon without having to pick up another one. There. can’t think of any other FPS game that let’s you do that.
Evolution = / = Mutation.
I consider H5 a mutation of the Halo gameplay loop, which is a bad thing because you are changing how the title plays.
I consider Reach and Infinite an Evolution of H3 because it adds onto the gameplay without actually drastically changing how the game is approached.
Believe it or not, people stick to certain games because it feels familiar and every new thing enhances that familiar gameplay. Example: Mario games. Mario has always been about one thing and one thing only, and that’s platforming, collecting coins and grabbing that Star (64 onwards). Each Mario games retains this aspect while evolving with different powerups, another familiar feature of Mario games.
Now let’s look at Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.
What people expected : Platforming, collecting stuff.
What people got : CAR GAME
Let’s look at Sonic as well.
What people expected : Running very very fast on a track and hitting that speed high while grabbing hoops and powerups
What people got for every single Sonic game since 06 : Lol 3D openworld game, more focus on story and more focus on NOT GOING FAST because going too fast will drop you off the level and gg restart.
H4 believe it or not, is a pretty good Halo game when you play modes which forced equal starts. H5 however, drastically altered the gameplay where it can hardly be called a Halo game anymore.
Halo 4 was actually better than Infinite cause at least all of the weapons were useful.
I agree. H4 was a pretty good MP overall, I still enjoy it on MCC.
The Loadout thing is pretty sad though.
It wasn’t just the gameplay but the designs.
However, I think if they had added the Thrusters without the rest of the gameplay changes it wouldn’t have been too different.
The weapons are useful in Infinite.
While I don’t like some of them and think some need to be buffed, they’re all useful.
Boltshot Flashbacks Very Useful indeed
Thrusters feel more like a symptom than an actual gameplay addition.
Most of the time, people use it to Thrust after people running away. Halo being a long TTK game means people can interrupt your kill just by walking behind a pillar or wall and tbh that has never been a problem with Halo.
In H4, no one used Thrusters ever, because all the other armor abilities have much more tactical advantage, further solidifying the idea that Halo is a game more about tactical positioning and using this knowledge to win your fights. Thruster is an entirely reactionary based armor ability which you use on demand.
For one, there’s also a need to balance aiming vs Thrusters being a staple, which is why H5’s AA and Bullet Mag was ridiculously aggressive. And no doubt if this was put into Infinite, controller players will be crying vs MKB.
I do that all of the time, and I don’t have Thrusters, but I don’t think removing Sprint or walls would be a good solution to that.
Why would you need to use Thrusters, when you can use a shield, become invisible, have a drone help you, send a decoy out, fly, or look through walls with X-ray vision?
Without those overpowered abilities, people would have used Thrusters a lot more often.
Thrusters have a cooldown, so it’s not like they need to put more aiming assistance.
By evolve do you mean stripping the new game of the basic things it’s previous entries offered, just to slowly give them back and call them major Updates. Or design a very restrictive customization model which was their obvious attempt at making a system where they could sell you the same default color more than once.
Then what is the point of new games?
Do people really just want better graphics and more story?
This thing about changing the gameplay or not being Halo is just crazy to me.
The game must change. What type of gamers don’t want additional styles of gameplay? It stagnated the series. And how did Halo 5 ruin it but in your mind reach and infinite don’t when this one has a grappling hook in it? And reach had a jetpack?
Sorry but people just hate five it seems for emotional reasons. Hated heard one good explanation yet.
Good day
How, what is this thing it did that suddenly made it not Halo?
