Halo 4 should go back to what made Halo an engaging FPS. Halo 1-3 emphasized story and gamelay over Player Customization and Rank. Halo: Reach was primarily focused on customizing your virtual barbie and buying things and while customization is good as a secondary feature it shouldn’t be included just to keep people playing the game. In Reach more often than not, actually playingthe game felt like a chore with the only goal being earning virtual credits and spending them on Armor.
Rank became meaningless and without anything to show a players individual level of skill aside from armor the game got boring. I much prefer Halo 2 and Halo 3’s Ranking system where it actually made playing the game more engaging than just grinding in Firefight to get cR.
Multiplayer matchmaking had more of a goal, and that is to earn kills and not die whereas in Reach anyone can get a high rank just by playing the game non-stop. I have no problem with something like that being included for those of you who want a more casual gameplay but for competive players we need something that clearly distinguises the bad from the good.
Arena didn’t cut it for me. Don’t cater to one side 343i, make a game that includes both styles of play and have armor custimization be secondary while putting engaging gameplay first.
Halo doesnt need to rip off Call of Duty’s ranking system (because it is painfully obvious that is what Bungie was going for). We don’t need perks, crutches or anything to slow down gameplay for incompetent players who need to fall back on gimmicky ‘tools’ to assist them. I might come across as a hyper-MLG fanboy when I say this, but back in Halo 2/3 it was all about timing, headshots and the abililty to think tactically in multiplayer whereas Reach allows people to fall back on Armor Lock, Jetpack and even sprint to get out of situations where they would surely be killed.
The typical response to this is Adapt. But I could easily tell you to adapt to a more competitive play style.
I’m sure not everyone agrees, but please defend your stand point with a logical response instead of the typical ‘Just adapt’ or ‘Go back to Halo 3’ or something equally hollow.
How would you like Halo 4’s multiplayer to be in terms of Rank, customization and in-game arsenal?
2 playlists, ranked competitive and unranked social, playlists contain the different game types to choose from. its done. competitive players have their own place and casual players have their own place. how can 343i or anyone mess it up?
We need to ignore what other members of the Halo Community love and just strip the game to a bare and naked First-Person-Shooter Game. No Custom Games, No Theater, No Firefight, No Forge. Just a Tunnel-Visioned Matchmaking System and a Linear Campaign. Where playing the game casually is unacceptable and those people must be jeered for their opinions that we heavily disagree on.
Is it really hard for people to understand that most people play Halo in different ways then what some of vocal minority on the Waypoint Forums would wish for?
> I Agree!

That is why what you got your social for? Your forge and firefight? They could at least give us a ranked playlist …

What if I were to say Ranked and Social Matchmaking are bad? Would I not have the right to play and enjoy the game because of how I play it?
People keep forgetting what you are in Halo. You’re a cybernetically enhanced bad–Yoink- super soldier encased in half a ton of armor and a recharging energy sheild who has been training since the age of 6. People still think you need airstrikes and killstreaks. Heres what I think: You don’t need airstrikes! Airstrikes need you!! Do you wanna pick a target and hide behind a rock, or charge in guns blazing and sheilds flaring, and come out feeling good about yourself?

CE’s repetitive level design never got boring to me due to the thorough thought put into the encounters. Halo2 and 3 have much less of that feeling. ODST and Reach gain a good portion of it.
Yes it was point A to point B work, but the multiple and escalating crescendos throughout the levels built by varying the setups was great.
Let me start off by saying that I am a customization nerd. I love customizing my spartan/elite to distinguish myself on the battlefield. Personally I liked the credits system, it encouraged me to play more and I have had countless hours of fun reaching my goals and then I celebrate with new armour!
Although I think it should be mixed with the achievement unlock system from halo 3. Really acomplishing an amazing feat and earning an achievemnt and wicked new armour makes me salivate. Abit of this has been touched upon with waypoints armour unlocks but nothing major.
Now, I agree that competitive players need their space, you should get your kicks and giggles. But also understand that I am a casual player, and I want to be able to rank up too. Incorperating a second ranking system similar to the skill system in halo 3 would work, but dont lock higher ranks for us casuals.
And I agree, no perks, killstreaks or any other BS. But keep sprint. Sprint is a welcome sight for halo. I dont really care about the AA, I dont see the big deal like some people but I rarely use anything other than sprint anyway…
All in all, I play for fun, you play for winning and if 343 lets us, we can coexist and both get enjoyment and fullfillment
Credit--Yoink!- FF, crutches like AA, ranking system like Cod, etc, etc, etc…It’s all garbage. Halo 4 needs to be what it truly is - a sequel to Halo 3; not Reach. It needs to go back to the core gameplay in the original trilogy (and ODST).
I agree to a point. Reach was…well terrible. Campaign, MM, Maps.
It needs to go back to its roots. Feeling like you’re in a new world.
H1 had the best campaign feel, with its varying terrains and wonders, and “wort wort wort”. I loved H2 because of its secrets. No barriers, super jumps, scarab guns, it was the effin life! I spent hours in co op, and the skull system made you feel like a badass. Running on the rooftops of outskirts.
H3 I think had the widest variety of quality maps. The Pit, Foundary, ect.
And HR had the best Forge and Customs(although H3 had varied textured Forge objects, Halo2 customs options let you make a slayer game outta Assault).
H4 needs:
-Campaign with tough enemies, cresciendo events, a wonderous world, and virtually NO barriers.
-Revolutionized Forge
-Quality, memorable maps.
-Extreme Dynamics in Customs options.
-Super Armory Customization(more visor colors, all attachments, attachment combos, service record weapon, up to 3 colors/armor detail, elite customization = spartan customization)
-H2/H3 Ranking System
-Awesome Skulls
-Different but nostalgia music
Funny thing is, no Halo game ever was a rip off of a another game. Halo: Reach was NOT a rip off of CoD. If you actually got your ignorant head out of your -Yoink!- and actually tried playing a CoD game, you would realize this. (“You” being a generalization, no one specific.)
(P.S. Halo 4 doesn’t NEED anything that this community lists. It’s what they want. Want =/= need.)
Alot of you are missing the point here. Halo: Reach DID rip off Call of Duty in a number of ways. It is quite obvious Bungie wanted to copy the ranking/perks formula from Call of Duty games in a attempt to replicate the parts of the game that made COD addicting and use it in Halo. This did not work. This did not help Halo.
As some of you people have said, Halo 4 needs to be a Halo 3 sequel not a Reach sequel. A number of you also misunderstood the context of my post. I’m not asking for 343i to get rid of Forge, Firefight or Custom Games. I wan’t them to serve both play types. I want them to include a ranking system that doesn’t reflect upon how much you play the game rather how well you do at the game and I have no problem whatsoever if they want to include a system for casual players that borrows the ranking system from Reach. Basically, I wan’t to be able to play the game how I want to and not be forced to play a game centered around slow, dull and non-competitive play.
Halo 4 needs to go back to Halo 3’s Ranked and Social playlists, give the people what they want and don’t shut out part of the community in the way that Bungie did. The Arena wasn’t necessary and it did nothing to help Reach become more competetive because the game itself was unchanged. If Halo 4 goes back to a classic style of play (Ala Halo 2/3) then this won’t be a problem but if 343i is going to include armor abilities again make sure they stay out of the Ranked playlists because I am of the opinion that they severely slow down gameplay and not in a fun way.
Why can’t there be a 1-50 system fro a ranked playlist, and then a reach-based system for the social playlists, that way both types of player should be more interested in the game, although I do feel the gameplay needs to go back to its roots more.
