Halo needs an in game compendium

Infinite should include a compendium in game. Since infinite is a soft reboot, but will keep all of the story and lore of the past games and media it would be nice to have all of this information in one place. It will also offer a nice place for new comers to get caught up on the series. Game play wise, if we will be encountering more flora and fauna on the halo ring as hinted at in the first trailer it could offer more opportunities for collectibles that are interesting to read with some nice art work to look at for all the entries. Maybe offering an armor set for completing all the entries as a bonus. Just a thought, what do you guys think?

I agree that a basic dossier of enemy types, basic factions and lore would be beneficial to new players. Something similar to what Doom 2016, and I assume Eternal, will feature.

I think this would be cool as well. More lore is always welcome and having a comprehensive guide in one game would be a good way for everyone to be up to speed. But, I’d like it to be more natural rather than yet another large set of collectibles. Of all the games I’ve played, skulls from Halo are the only meaningful collectibles since they directly affect gameplay. All others are extremely boring/repetitive/annoying ways of extending playtime. As mentioned, DOOM’s codex was pretty great. Lots of reading material for those who wanted it and most of it unlocked naturally as you encountered new enemies and areas.

I think this is an awesome idea! Maybe if there is an in-game credit system, a modest amount could be rewarded to the player for discovering unique enemies, animals, fauna, areas, etc. There more rare the discovery, the more credits. Then you could be awarded that sweet armor set after completing the compendium in its entirety, as you said.

Yes! I really wanted this since the first time I saw them in other games like RDR 2 and SW Jedi Fallen Order. It should really help newcomers to the franchise to know about all the lore behind things.

Sure? I don’t think it ought to be a priority, but including this could be a good way to offer an accessible lore resource for new fans and longtime players alike.

If it comes down to throwing the dev resources to something like this or doing something else that’s more directly impactful to gameplay, I think the resources would be better spent on the gameplay stuff.

But in a perfect world, they iron out all the major gameplay with enough time to spare to put these sorts of finishing touches on before release.
