Halo Mythos has just been revealed. But:
-
Is this ‘compensating’ for the lack or lore in new Halo games? - **Or is it a welcome guide to an ever expanding universe?**Personally, I like the idea of the book and may get it, but I would like to see more explanation and lore in future Halo games, as opposed to the ‘you should have read the book’.
Its a good Welcome guide for new people. Some new stuff for lore people.
“lack of lore” in the 343 games was never the problem. 343 had a crapton of lore and that’s awesome. That problem is how they present that lore and incorporate it for new players or people that just play the games.
I’m very happy with it. I would classify it as *"*A welcome guide to an ever expanding universe."
Here’s my take on the EU vs Game dilemma Halo 343 is in: You simply cannot stuff enough information to develop a complex and satisfying universe in a First Person Shooter game.
With the advent of a Premium TV Series, movies are now struggling with the same issue. Movies have 2 hours to introduce characters, their histories, motives, passions, flaws. Then they have to introduce the setting, the contention, the climax, all while continuing to develop the characters. And nowadays, TV shows can easily have 12 hours plus a season!
You Can’t get quality by rushing the delivery time.

Agreed with this. It’s a debate I have a lot of my friends who also enjoy Halo… they don’t love the ‘homework’ of reading the books, yet still enjoy Halo’s story. I mean, there isn’t enough time as you said in a game without the use of terminals, data drops, etc… and why make them easy to find I guess at that? I mean if you enjoy the lore, you’ll find them, and I enjoy hunting these in game tidbits. Otherwise, the EU is fantastic, and I enjoy what 343i is doing with it (H5G wasn’t what I expected, I admit, but I think they do have a plan, and Halo Wars 2’s story is looking great). I think if people enjoy Hal, why not want more of it?
As to the original question, I think Mythos is both a great introduction for new fans as well as a great tool for those who don’t want to read all the books as it summarizes a lot of info that help understand the history, and quite frankly, the tiny nuances that are in the games that most people overlook.
They should bring back spartan ops but make it fun to play and not repetitive. Release it in a steady stream and have an accompanying mini series to go with it to help explain some crap. The mythos was awesome and I liked the art work and some in depth explanations of some questions I had (like if halo reach was cannon or not, really happy with that). If spartan ops had been more ongoing they could have found a way to make the story better and not need to be killed in the first mission of halo 5, but I doubt it because Brian Reed was the creator of it.
Halo 5 should’ve had terminals that gave a quick backstory on the setting and characters and a quick rundown introduction cutscene would’ve been a far better option than a cutscene with dialogue which has no connection to the current game and is just set up for the next
I am a lorealist, I care about lore more then gameplay. I have not played Guardians (Only game I have not played besides SA & SS), but I am satisfied with the lore in it as well as how it fits in the Halo universe, I plan on getting Mythos to feed my craving.
Hopefully I will keep that attitude when I do play it.

Without completely drowning them in information. Humans are not AIs, they can’t instantly absorb that much data in seconds after all.
