Hi Everyone, Just finished reading the Kilo-Five Trilogy and for the most part I really enjoyed it, some really great characters and a complex and interesting look at the state of the Universe post Halo 3.
My only real two points of irritation, I was under the impression that these books were a bridge between Halo 3 and 4. While we saw and heard a lot from Jul Mdama in the first two, he’s barely mentioned in the final book. We’re left essentially in limbo. Although maybe this just leaves the door open for another book or series of books to cover the period of time between Jul swearing vengeance on Humanity and his assembling of a fleet and lengthy attempt to breach Requiem.
The second is all this hatred for Halsey, I get it I do, Naomi, Serin and the rest of the Spartan II’s and their families have a reason to hate and are totally justifies in their opinions, but lets not forget that if she hadn’t done these horrible things, The Covenant would of wiped humanity out, the prophet of Truth would of fired the Halo array and the galaxy would be void of all life, without the Librarian’s specimens to repopulate and seed life, there would be no future for anyone.
But its mostly my first point, I could be wrong but I thought these books were supposed to give us all a detailed look at the events that led up to Halo 4.
What do you guys and gals think?
Yeah, I think the first two books were meant as a bridge between Halo 3 and Halo 4 with the last one finishing up the main story. I was disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of Jul, but at least Chol Von’s story was satisfying. As for the Halsey stuff, you’re preaching to the converted.
Wow, a relatively positive review of the Kilo Five trilogy. Never thought I’d see the day.
Anyway, I too was a little disappointed that we didn’t see more of Jul in the last book, as he is quickly becoming a favorite character of mine. But I don’t really think that the primary purpose of the stories was to bridge Halo 3 to Halo 4; I was under the impression that they were made to simply give us an overview of the post-war universe.
As for the Halsey hate…I’m sure someone here will give you a wall of text. It really doesn’t bother me though.
I felt that Jul pretty much got wrapped up at the end of the Thursday War.
I think that if they tried to incorporate him in to Mortal Dictata, they would need to construct a new story arc that was both begun and completed before the end of the book. Otherwise all you would have is a bunch of boring chapters which would boil down to ‘hey we acquired this ship’ and ‘yay we found requiem’.
If 343 felt the need, they could flesh it out a bit more with a comic series or something, but personally I feel that the dots of Thursday War and Halo 4 are close enough for the audience to piece together themselves without having it detailed to them.
