Now before you say its a bad idea just think about it for a second, with the xbox 720 rumored to have the ability to run MMOs and reports of 343 looking for people with MMO experiance, it seems like a possible idea. If they were to create a halo MMO i would want it to have similar gameplay and feel the similar to the rest of the halo series, It would need to be first person with tons of weapons and vechicals (mabye they could just get every vechical and weapon from every halo game and put them all in the MMO) the mmo could span over an entire galaxy with all the alien homeworlds (you could play as any alien specie expect the flood or forerunners) plus it could have tons of other star systems and un explored planets
The players could be the ones that evolve the story line EG a high ranking player has been granted his/her own ship, they travel with their crew of NPCs and other lower ranking players and they then stumble upon a forerunner planet (all of which is completely unscripted) they go on the planet and accidently reasle the flood again (once again unscripted) then the flood infects crew and ship and all the players respwan on the nearest human (or whatever race the player was) controled planet/area, the flood could then infect dozens of planets.
How cool would it be if the players evolved the story past the master chief and the reclaimer trology, if the players could be the ones who took out a brute planet or assasinated a prophet.
This one could be unique in a sense that players dont start as spartans who can hyjack vechicals and assasinate elites, the player would have to work up from a marine or elite minor or a basic jackel then they could rank up to ODSTs or elite zealots or brute majors or jackel rangers. and by doing so their armor was enhanced, they could fly ships, they could use equipment, they could take a medic course and be able to heal themselves or injured team mates, while high ranking players called for a pilot player to airstrike the enemy, the possiblilties are endless!
I hope i get some feed back from a 343 industy person but feel free to give me yours
Ive always been a little weary of MMORPGs… Because unless their free to play they ultimately become a cash cow… and the story starts to degrade… Look at WoW. it’s REALLY starting to degrade. That and any major events will be by a “group of unknown heroes” so to speak, so… in my opinion the story starts to lose its grandeur and "greatness so to speck. I just really think it would be a bad idea for the current halo timeline. I also have issues with the “player” taking control of the current story. If you have ever played “EVE ONLINE” you will find whole systems can fall due to someone going EMO (or in halo’s case, a planet). So well I think a lot of players would try to get the story right… in the end it would not work out due to the amount of morons around. Having the MMORPG dictate the story is NEVER a good idea. I am COMPLETELY against an MMORPG that will dictate the current halo story.
It might work if it was set in the Human-Forerunner war however. That has a potentially rich history with a lot of potential for an MMORPG. Also everyone would be on an even playing field. You could be Forerunner,Human,Elite, and who knows what else. Also since we probably won’t have a lot of focus on that era it would be perfect for an MMORPG. You would also have the flood which could work into your theory and a safe zone with that line the forerunners had… where they needed Key ships (to lazy to Google). I really really think this would be a better timeline… the thought of an MMORPG going with the current halo storyline frightens me… CASH COW OMG, LETS JUST MAKE THE STORY DRAMATIC AND KEEP EVERYONE FIGHTING BECAUSE WE DON’T WANT PEOPLE GETTING BORED!!! (WoW again). So please please please take my consideration… The Human-Forerunner war would be sooo much better (and I completely support THAT idea)
All the other ideas you have are solid tho. Al tho unscripted events can get out of hand very quickly… I would probably do something stupid like infect a ship and send it to earth for the heck of it… and then we would have to glass Sydney because I felt like being a moron… so their would probably have to be fail safes somewhere. Also I would think a cover system would be good as well… something like Gears Of War… the thought of everyone running around spamming grenades makes me cringe… It would open a lot of tactical options… Space combat would be awesome in any circumstance… But it should take a lot of work to get any big ship… cause they won’t hand it out to any bottom rung noob.
I also suggest (if you don’t know what it is) you look up EVE online. It’s awesome MMORPG and based on your post I think you would enjoy it.
Forerunner-Human war PLEASE!!! protect the integrity of the story!!!
The forerunner/human war era sounds great actully cause that is new, it opens up alot of door ways. i was thinking about those problems with morons destroying the planet or detonating nukes in their step mothers house, i dont mean players completely running the show, alot of admin and staff supervising and changing aspects to keep the story going is good, but im talking about a war going on and the victor is up to the players (a battle is on a forerunner planet, human npc and human players fight forerunner npc and players) if the human team is stronger then they will push back the forerunner, they would take various locations on the planet, they could even sabotage forerunner supplies. the admins or very trusted and high ranking players could direct the battles, the human admin commander could order human players and NPC to attack a weapons cache so the forerunner NPC soldiers are worse equip (i dont want the players to be affected by this because then that would cause raging if a player couldnt accsess his/ her ordance or load out weapons)
The flood add a good aspect to the game as well, if the era is before he human and covy war that means alot of unscripted -Yoink- could happen and the game ends with the big halo bang so nothing that happens in the human forerunner war could affect the events of the halo series (we would make a big bang happen while the game was going because that would destroy the game ect ect)
Also microsoft and 343 wouldnt ask for money for subscribtions because they have XBOX LIVE, if they tried to make subscribtion fees then there would be massive complaining.
I’d find it prety funny if conflict didnt continue in world of WARCRAFT. Nah lets sit around all day doing professions.
That being said, a halo MMO would just be weird I think. There’s been alot of franchises that think they’re going to hit it big with an mmo and then are effectively ‘dead’ within a year.
No it should be 1st person, the selectable races are Spartan, ODST, Sanghelli, or Brute, and it takes place during the early human covenant war.
Well ya… but keep in mind… 50 to 70% of the players probably won’t OBEY. Other then that… your ideas are good.
Also… I would not put it past them to charge for it anywha… I have seen the depths of Microsoft greeeeeeeeeeeed.
EDIT -
The quote went away

Yeah, I think what the OP talks about is what most people wish MMO’s would be, but most of the MMO community would justh ate it/create chaos. Eve does really well being open, but the game itself is also complex and daunting enough that most people simply can’t get into it. Unlike alot of MMO’s, eve also isnt based on anything. It capitolizes on niche-ness in order to have a good community. Halo isn’t niche, and it’d be full of people wanting to be master chief heroes who do it all on their own (like most halo rp’s i see).
