Halo meridian divide

Hi guys, i’ve just finished Halo: Meridian Divide, and i’ve been thinking in what year is it set? Because Owen is a spartan 3, and those were discovered if i’m not wrong, in the 2552 on onyx right?

Events from the Battle Born novels appear to be on a relatively local, subdued level. The Covenant were interested in the Forerunner artefact that existed on the moon. It probably wasn’t until sometime afterwards that hostilities began to pick up and spread across the entire surface. A passing reference to Meridian in Halsey’s journal suggests that the initial Covenant onslaught was repelled but that they returned in force afterwards and set about glassing the planet.

Your typical civilian who probably doesn’t know much outside of press briefings isn’t likely to figure out the differences between SIIs and SIIIs. Given that the SIIs weren’t revealed to the public until 2549, it might have only been very recently that the people of Meridian learned of their existence.

So there’s no specific year to set this novel?

I think 2549 might be a close estimate. Battle Born seems to occur before the Covenant are widespread across the entire moon.

The book takes place somewhere in 2549 to 2550. It’s not exact, but that’s roughly where it is set. As to the Spartan-III program start date, that began in December 2531 with Alpha Company. Owen and his compadres have been around for a while. He’s Beta Company, which puts his start time in the program at 2539.

So it was not discovered on Onyx in 2552. That’s just when the Onyx Conflict took place, which were the initial events of the book Ghosts of Onyx.
