Halo: MCC Co-op Gaming Channel [Idea]

Howdy Waypoint!

Let me just start by explaining my situation:

I’ve been the owner of several different YouTube channels over the years. I’ve done everything from poorly-made movies using Paint, to playing horror titles simply for the reaction that follows. As much as I’ve enjoyed making videos, there’s one thing that has always bothered me; commentary. Providing commentary when I’m by myself is awkward for me, which ends up being awkward for the viewer. However, I may have the solution to my problem!

Making videos and talking to an audience comes naturally to me when I’m with friends. Therefore, I’d like to begin a YouTube channel dedicated to providing footage of anything and everything that takes place during our time with The Master Chief Collection and beyond! This will include any time I happen to play with friends, future subscribers, and even strangers (and of course the talking that goes on between everyone).

Before the channel even begins, however, I would like to get some feedback from you, potential viewers! Using the poll I have provided, I would like to know your yes/no opinion regarding the flow of a YouTube video. After voting, feel free to elaborate on your selection as well as discuss anything that may come to mind as far as this idea. Thanks for participating!

Please note, this topic will most likely be a work-in-progress for a long time to come. I expect to add/remove a LOT of things in this post before it has fully served its purpose.

I’m not a big fan of commentaries…in fact I can’t watch them at all. Something about them just seems pointless when I can go play the game myself. That being said I feel that if anyone wants to go for something then they absolutely should so if you can find a friend or two who wants to do this with you then go for it all the way and maybe even post it here when you’re done.

I also voted for the Intro-Content-Outro since it’s incredibly straightforward and gets the job done.

One thing I will say about it though is don’t have one of those long obnoxious introductions where it’s like 20 seconds of junk nobody needs to see. Just something that shows off your name works perfectly fine. Something mega simple that I made in 30 seconds or so would be this.

Obviously in video form you’d have to figure out how it would work and such. I’m just saying don’t be one of those guys who puts obnoxiously loud music and flashy graphics. It’s really off-putting, especially since that’s the first thing you see.

Thanks for the reply, Spearhead! I realize that listening to commentary is not for everyone. In fact, I should probably explain a bit more.

As I mentioned before, commentary has always been quite awkward for me (when I’m trying too hard). With this new channel I would like to go for a much more relatable approach; less “Hello, my name’s Cameron! Today I’m going to play Grifball. Before we get started feel free to drop a like and hit that Subscribe button,” and more like the type of things you would say to a group of silly friends in Custom Games. This idea stems from the fact that my friends and I can’t go back and watch all of the fun we had as kids, so why not seize the opportunity this time with the collection?

As for your stance on the intro/outro thing, I agree that you can include them without annoying anybody. People who are familiar with the channel will see it for all of three seconds then get on with the video, whereas new viewers will get the message if they clicked the video without looking at surrounding details.

I’m also stealing Herp Derp Gaming. If you have any ‘moar’ ideas feel free to share them, hehe!
