Halo MC Collection, Old Bugs and New Ideas.

Halo MC Collection Old Bugs

Normally, I wouldn’t even bother bringing up some of these old issues, most of which are ancient history by now, but since you guys decided to open up Pandora’s box and remake Halos 1-4, I figured some of the things in my “Big O’l Bag O’ Complaints and Suggestions” might be useful. So here you go.

Halo C.E. Anniversary:

• Miss-textured Wall in The Library.

Just before the final security door on the top floor next to an indented floor ramp, there is a wall when viewed in new graphics, but a small room with some dead flood and a health pack when viewed in old graphics. If you go up the ramp from the indent and keep going you will walk into it. When in this room in new graphics, you can see through the walls into the rest of the level. (You might consider crowd sourcing to check for more errors like this, I doubt this is the only one in such a large game.)

• Prison Shield Doors on The Truth and Reconciliation.

This inconsistency is very minor, on par with the change to the sniper reticle (something I appreciate), but since it does not seem intentional I’ll mention it anyway. On either graphics setting, the shield doors in the brig on the Truth and Reconciliation disappear abruptly all at once, while in the original game they faded out slowly in pairs, one on each side of the room. It’s just something that always bugged me.

• Cortana Missing In the Opening Cut-scene for Two Betrayals.

This issue exists in the opening cut-scene for Two Betrayals after Cortana reappears, there is a flash of light, and 343 Guilty Spark is knocked back; Cortana is not visible at the console at this point in the scene (new graphics), when she clearly was in the original game.

Halo 2:

• Post Cut-Scene Silhouettes. (Likely Fixed)

After some cut-scenes, the last frame would leave a grey silhouette over the screen, and the effect would sometimes last the entire mission. (Xbox 360) (I’m almost certain you already fixed this, but it never hurts to check.)

Halo 4:

• DLC Armor (shoulders mostly) not Showing Up Correctly in First Person View When You Melee.

DLC armor shows up as different armor in first person view when you melee. I’m aware that you fixed this problem in matchmaking, but it still exists in Spartan Ops and some Custom Games.

• Ghost Holograms.

If someone dies while placing a hologram, it will spawn a white version with no weapon where the person was standing. (I actually like this one.)

• Toggle Crouch AA Override.

When using toggle crouch, crouching, and trying to use an armor ability that requires an animation (e.g. Auto Sentry, Regeneration Field, or Hard-light Shield), you will stay crouched and nothing will happen (even in an open space). If you want to use that AA, you must stand up manually, activate it, and then manually crouch again. I’m not sure if this is really a glitch, but it would be nice for this process to be automatic.

• Shielding Tactical Package/Regeneration Field conflict.

When using the Shielding Tactical Package and while your shields are recharging inside a Regen’ Field (regardless of whether the field is charging them or if they’re charging naturally) they will charge slower than they do outside the field.

• Regen’ Field Interruption Glitch.

If you activate a Regen’ Field and are moved in any way while performing its animation (e.g. by being bumped by a player, hit with a vehicle, pushed by an explosion, etc.), you will exit the animation, the green field will deploy, your AA gauge will be drained, but the field will have no effect.

• Forge Tilt Glitch.

After saving and reloading a forge map, everything will be tilted slightly, regardless of what is done to prevent it. This tilt is most noticeable where large flat objects meet, usually floors. This glitch is also present in Halo Reach and is by far the most infuriating thing for someone like me who likes to make small tweaks to maps over time. Having to reposition every object gets old fast.

• TU Speed Increase and Radar Sensitivity.

Ever since the base speed was increased, whenever you crouch-walk at full speed up inclines of certain degrees you show up on radar. This does not occur on flat land. Crouch-walking usually gives one the impression that they are off radar, so this one really gets to me. It is probably just an oversight; you could fix it by reducing the crouch-walking speed or reducing the radar sensitivity slightly.

• Ammo Support Upgrade/Ordnance Ammo Pickup Glitch. NEW

An example of this would be: grabbing the sniper on Ragnarok with Ammo equipped, giving you 12 spare shots plus a full clip of 4 for a total of 16 bullets. This is in contrast to the 12 total bullets you get without Ammo equipped. With Ammo still equipped, if you then use up your 16 shots, wait for the ordnance to respawn, and just run over it with your empty sniper rifle, you will receive only 12 bullets (the same as if you had picked up the ammo without Ammo equipped). If you instead swap your sniper for another weapon and then swap again for the sniper from the ordnance, you will get the full 16 shots. This glitch is present with all weapons, but I think the sniper illustrates it best.

I’m sure that this is not everything, but it’s what I can remember. If anyone else has any long forgotten glitches that used to drive you crazy, please add to this list. Hopefully we can help make Halo MC Collection the best it can be.

Halo MC Collection New Ideas

These are just a few things I would like to see in the new MC collection. Feel free to agree, disagree, or add to the list.

Skulls:

• Skull Finding.

One of my favorite things about Halo is the hidden skulls. Finding them is always a fun experience. I know 343 plans to make all missions available from the start; I just hope they don’t do the same thing for skulls in this collection that they did for Reach, ODST, and 4. If they decide to make all skulls available from the start, I hope that finding and unlocking them is still an option.

• Grunt Funeral Skull and Keys (Halo Anniversary).

343 plans to include all DLC with the MC collection. Since the original Grunt Funeral Skull didn’t appear as a findable skull in the game, because it was DLC, it might find a home in the only Halo Anniversary mission without a skull: Keyes.

• Halo 3 Bull’s Eye Skull (Second Blind Skull).

For those who don’t know, there was a second skull on the mission Cortana. It is located in the room where you blow up the 3 energy pylons, on the upper roof ring of the room. If you picked it up and did not have the Blind skull, you would unlock Blind for use. If you carried the second skull to the end of the level (I think you had to do this, but I don’t recall), from that point on you would be able to take your weapons from the end of one mission to the beginning of the next (Upon further reflection, I think you might have been able to do this anyway. Sorry. It has been a very long time since I messed with any of this stuff.). This effect (might have) lasted until you restarted your game, just like a Halo 2 skull. Also, Master Chief (or whoever carried it through, I can’t remember) would spawn with a Spartan Laser on the last mission; this is how it got the nickname Bull’s Eye. Please elevate this to the status of a full skull that can be activated at will and make an achievement for finding it.

• Halo 4 Skulls.

It might be a long shot, but would it be possible to retroactively hide skulls in Halo 4 like you did with the original Halo Anniversary? The terminals were so easy to find that I was left wanting more. It would also encourage more exploration of those environments you worked so hard to craft.

• Skulls Across Games.

Not all skulls are available across all games. Some skulls even work differently from one game to the next, Halo 2’s Grunt Birthday Party vs. Halo 3’s for example. I know it would be a lot to ask, but I would like to see all skulls available across all the games, like Sputnik on Halo 4. I realize this is a bit of a pipe dream.

Game-types and Maps:

• Porting Files. (Confirmed No)

I still have a lot of fun game-types and maps from H3 and H4 that I would like to play again without being forced to recreate them. Somehow Minecraft plans to let you import your worlds from 360 to ONE, I’m not sure how they plan to do that, but you might ask them; it would be nice to forgo reforging all my maps and game-types.

• Retroactive Game-type Introduction.

While I understand that this could not be done for everything (e.g. Grifball due to lack of Gravity Hammers), I would like to see certain game-types put into older games. For example, Infection would be a nice addition to Halo 2, especially since it had Infection before it was an actual game-type.

• Custom Games Options Expansion.

Certain options, like beam rifle starts (Halo 3) and forced color (Halo 4), have not been available in the past. It would be nice to see more options for custom games in this compilation, especially a kill-cam option for older games.

• Map Cross-Compatibility. (Confirmed No)

Since you are touching up all of the maps anyway, would it be that much work to copy-paste some of the maps across games? Movement settings are close for most of the games, so the set ups should still work adequately. Each map would need it’s own weapon set for each game, since not all weapons appear in all games. Still, playing Guardian on Halo 4 would be the s***!

Other Features:

• Theater. (Confirmed No)

The addition of Theater Mode for all games would be nice.

• Forge. (Confirmed No)

Making Forge available for all games is probably too much work, but it would still be appreciated.

• File Share.

It would be great to have a universal file share, containing files from each different Halo, that would be viewable from any game.

• Armor.

Seeing new armor for Halos 3, 4, and maybe even 2 would be awesome. (I would love to see Rouge from H3 in H4)

• Halo 4 Dropped-Weapon De-spawn Timer. (Confirmed No)

It would be nice for the Halo 4 de-spawn timer for dropped weapons to be about 50% longer, at least for non-power weapons; Even if you just changed it for Campaign and Spartan Ops.

• Halo 4 TU Changes Applied to Campaign and Spartan Ops.

I’d prefer the experience to be consistent throughout all game-modes, especially since your loadouts are shared across everything except for Campaign. The speed boost for the large areas of Campaign and Spartan Ops would be incredibly helpful.

• Halo 4 All Perk Game-type

I think it would be fun to have a game-type with all Support Upgrades and Tactical Packages applied to all players.

• (SPOILER) 11th Terminal Incorporation.

I’d like to see the 11th terminal from Halo anniversary become an unlockable prolog for Halo 2 or epilog for Halo Anniversary.

• Black as an Armor Color Option (Outside of Forced Color).

Black goes with everything.

• Analyze and Scan Features From Halo Anniversary.

I was surprised at how much I liked these features (it reminds me of Metroid Prime). After I filled up the scan-able items list, I used Analyze mode like the VISR mode from ODST (my favorite feature from that game). I’m aware this use is unintentional; still I feel this feature could benefit from the removal of its quick-exit triggers: taking damage, shooting, meleeing, throwing a grenade (I think), or not giving any further voice commands for a set period. I would also like to see an option to map the “analyze” and “scan” voice command features to the D-pad (After all, they made the word “grenade” a voice command for a controller action, and they have control schemes and options that did not exist in the original, toggle-crouch anyone. So, why not?). Additionally, I would like to see these features return for Halo 2A.

• Halo Anniversary Toggle-Crouch Frustrations.

When crouching using Toggle-Crouch, if you push your movement stick all the way in any direction, you will stand up and walk normally. You return to crouching when you once again only lightly press your stick. I am aware this is how all crouching worked in the original game, but it is contrary to how crouching works in all other Halos. I’m not saying it should be changed outright, but a menu option, like the modern control schemes and the toggle-crouch options that you already added, would be welcome.

If there is anything you think I missed, please add it to the thread. If you don’t have any suggestions, then speak your mind about what’s already here.

These are the types of posts that I don’t have a problem with because they are very constructive. The OP is bringing some known issues across that can be fixed. However, there are some that some of us already know will not happen.

For example, cross game map compatibility is not going to happen. This question was answered during the Q and A at the end of the RTX 2014 Halo Panel. There is a link provided below for clarification.

Link: RTX Halo Panel - Q&A Session - YouTube

Most of these things are easy fixes but there are a few like skulls in Halo 4’s campaign. That will most likely not happen due to the fact that it has already been stated that Halo 3 and Halo 4 will stay as is and are not receiving any changes. Porting forge files is another issue that will most likely not happen as well. It stinks but I think we will most likely have to create our maps and gametypes again.

Any way, great post OP.

This isn’t an issue since it was stated long ago by 343 that the DLC armour wouldn’t work in Spartan Ops due to memory restrictions. So technically this isn’t a glitch. Any DLC armour used in Spartan Ops would revert to the default armour.

That said, a good question would be if they’re going to include DLC armor in Spartan ops now. In fact, it would seem odd not to, as it would now be on disc content and those unaware that certain armor were dlc would likely consider it a glitch.

I wasn’t aware that 343 had addressed map compatibility. Thanks for the info, phoenixfire978.

On the subject of DLC armor in Spartan Ops, I see Phil Mitchell62’s point, but I agree with Randy 355. Now that all DLC is becoming just plain C, there’s no good reason not to fix it in my opinion.

No problem. I am glad I could help with your post.

These things, these are all good things that help the game while at the same time expressing an opinion in a way that does not start a war of ridiculous comments, thank you for your intelligence

I agree 100% with this. I really hope they allow skulls to be found and actually matter when they are.

This is also a great idea. Finally a reason not to bump out of the map in the first hallway haha.

I never knew it had those extra effects. This is also a great idea. Similarly they should finally give the Whuppopotamus skull from Halo 2 its name in game.

Both these ideas are good, but I doubt they will do them unfortunately. Specifically with cross-campaign skulls I think it would introduce too many glitches that would previously not have been possible, and the sheer amount of testing required would be enormous and probably unpractical.

I kind of wish they had dlc planned for this collection that was compatible with all the forge modes. The maps in H3 are way too small for even a transport Hornet except for avalanche. Avalanche is ok because of how it forces you to go around the middle with it. Maybe coagulation will be as big as forge world and we can see our beloved falcon and hornet together at last.

Sandbox maps could be rather large at times. You also have to admit, even if most of the maps were too small, the hornet was still really fun to use (less so, to be used on).

I just added some things I had forgotten. Thoughts?

Halo MC Collection New Ideas (Continued)

Halo MCC and Other Halo Titles:

• ODST, Reach, and Maybe Even Wars as Remastered DLC. NEW

I have seen this idea tossed around in a few threads. I think it would be awesome, and it would cement Halo MCC as the new hub for Halo games. (This idea was not mine.)

• Halo Waypoint Integration. NEW

In the Halos Reach and 4 we had a menu option to exit the game we were playing and enter Waypoint. This is a start, but I would really like to see some aspects of Waypoint integrated into the game itself. “Screenshots of the Week” acting something like Bungie Favorites did, for example. (Also not mine.)

• Halo Spartan Assault Quick Select. NEW

I have Halo SA for my Xbox One. A main menu option to switch to it quickly from Halo MMC would be very convenient; in addition, it would help to promote Halo MCC as a hub. (I am also very lazy when it comes to navigating menus.)

• Halo 5 and the Future. NEW

I think it would be interesting to see Halo 5 offered as not only a stand-alone product, but also as full priced and integrated DLC for Halo MCC. This would help to maintain the populations of both games by reducing competition between them, and would boost sales of Halo MCC collection over time by keeping it relevant. You could continue this practice onto future Halos, making Halo MCC a real investment and building a lasting community around it.

(P.S. I ran out of room in the second post I made above. Would a moderator mind moving this post directly underneath the one titled: “Halo MC Collection New Ideas?” Thank you.)

This was an issue with the Xbox 360’s emulation. Since Halo 2 is being properly ported to the Xbox 360, this shouldn’t exist.

> • Black as an Armor Color Option (Outside of Forced Color).
>

This was a deliberate change made after Halo CE. Bungie realized that the black armor in CE gave the player too much natural camouflage, especially in the shadows, and so it was not incorporated in future titles.

I’m glad to hear my hopes confirmed. I just figured that it deserved a mention one way or another. Thank you for the info.

I see. That decision is understandable for the time at which it was made; on the other hand, with all of the lighting upgrades that 343 plans for this collection, might its practicality be worth reassessing?

They aren’t planning any lighting upgrades for multiplayer. The only changes planned are to up the resolution to 1080p and to run at 60 frames per second. If black armor was too dark for multiplayer 10 years ago, it will still be too dark today.

If that is indeed the case, then I concede the point. Though, everything I have read thus far that mentions lighting upgrades has simply stated that all 4 games would be receiving them (along with the 1080p and 60fps upgrades), with Halo 2 getting “the full anniversary treatment.” I have not seen anything saying that said lighting upgrades would be absent from multiplayer. It would seem odd to limit the lighting changes to campaign; would it not? Then again, your information might be newer than mine. Would you mind sharing your source?

I’ve never seen anything that mentions lighting upgrades for all the games. There is also no mention of it in the stickied thread at the top of this forum. Where have you seen mention of anything other than 1080p and 60fps? I don’t have a source that says it’s not present, just sources that only say the upgrades are framerate and resolution.

Huh. It is peculiar that it would be missing from the sticky. I have found those to be reliable in the past.

I had trouble locating where I originally heard about the lighting upgrades; though, Wikipedia and Halopedia mention them. They use this article as their citation.

Quote: “Halo: Combat Evolved is based on its Anniversary Edition, which we saw released on the Xbox 360 in 2011. This means this oldie won’t just receive the simple lighting, frame-rate, and uprez treatment (like Halo 3 and Halo 4 are getting). The developers already overhauled the graphics and remastered the sound to modernize the game more thoroughly three years ago, and it’ll get the additional 60 fps and 1080p upgrade for the Xbox One.”

I don’t know how reliable it is. If I find another source, then I will post it.
