Halo Magnum

In CE we were introduced to the iconic magnum.

it has evolved through the games and we have had many different renditions.
What do you guys think of the different versions that we’ve had throughout the series.

also what do think of the design that was shown in halo infinite?

As for the Infinites Sidekick. I think visually this is the worst one so far due to looking like a completely normal 2020 pistle.
it seems to feel nice shooting-wise, and I love the crosshair design for it. However they never use any “zoom/scope” with the Sidekick in the demo which makes me worry that there isn’t one. One thing I strongly dislike about Halo 2 and 3’s magnum was that it didn’t have a scope.

Great post, I agree with pretty much all of your comments.

I think the H2 magnum is very underrated, especially when dual-wielded with the plasma pistol - I prefer the dual variant to the PP/BR standard n00b combo.

In that poll, I voted for Reach though - mostly because I don’t love Halo 4’s competitive multiplayer where the pistol was mostly utilized. I have always felt that Halo 4 was a better BTB/large team objective game, and in most of those games you started with some type of rifle anyway.

The CE pistol was great in CE because the sandbox was so simple. There weren’t any mid-range rifles in the game, so the CE pistol took over that role and did an excellent job.

The H2 pistol was trash, but the BR took over the mid-range role the CE pistol had so it wasn’t too great a loss. Also, the ability to dual wield meant the pistol had to be nerfed, making it pretty much useless on its own.

The H3 pistol was a good balance imo. It was a simple sidearm that wasn’t powerful to the point of overshadowing the BR. It’s low fire rate was a bit ridiculous though.

The H4 pistol was fine I think. I honestly don’t remember it too well.

The H5 pistol was a rare bright spot for that game. Fun to use and pretty effective. The fact that it was the preferred weapon over more standard multi-purpose weapons like the BR was a bit concerning.

Well I’m CE biased, I love everything about that magnum from the power to the fire rate, even the way the accuracy works. In infinite I honestly have absolutely no idea what they’re going to do, as h5 made the pistol the primary again which was interesting, I liked the choice but many did not.

I really dont like the CE Magnum tbh. It singlehandedly ruins the entire matchmaking. The 2 Magnum was fun to spray but didnt do anything. The 3 Magnum is okay but if it had a functional scope it would be 4x better.

The ODST magnum was a step up from 3 with the speed of 2.

The Reach Magnum is incomprehensible -Yoink- that ruins SWAT and Infection simultaneously by virtue of its random–Yoink- bloom.

Halo 4 has a pretty tame Magnum but its still good.

Halo 5 has 4 main ones and 2 REQ ones. The Gunfighter and extended mag are both bog standard and fine. The silenced is superb, the regular is pretty powerful but boring to use.

Whispered Truth is fun but incredibly overpowered. The CE Magnum at least requires some effort in 5.

Halo Infinites magnum looks fun, I really prefer the Halo 2 style as opposed to the CE influence.

I have seen some complaints that it looks too lifelike but the AR literally resembled a real life gun in 2001, I really don’t understand that complaint when its clear humanity has stagnated with weapons development this past 500 years anyhow. There’s only so much improvement you can make to shooting a piece of shaped metal at living creatures before you hit a boundary.

Halo 5 version is my favourite for multiplayer. Was hoping it’d return for Infinite but it’s looking like they’re going back to BR’s. For campaign I like the H1 magnum. The pistol we saw in the Infinite demo is not the magnum by the way, it’s a separate gun.

I think the sidekick is a cool changeup.

ODST had my favorite magnum, best looks, sound, and decent damage like a normal pistol should have.

I think the new magnum could be cool. CE >.
