Halo Lore: The Spartan III Program, need feedback

Hello waypoint.
About 7 months ago i made a video with my friend about the backstory of the spartan 2’s. It got a really positive response with 6000+ views and 60+likes plus about 30 subscribers from one video :’)

It took me a while but i got round to making another lore video, this time on the spartan 3’s. I tried to be consistent with my style of telling a story, rather than giving a lesson, which one user recommended I keep up.

I’m looking for feedback and constructive criticism, if any. My editing is not the best, but i feel like my research and knowledge of the Halo lore can somewhat excuse that. I had trouble finding visual material for the spartan 3 lore video, as there was not nearly as much as there is for the spartan 2’s. Anyway, here is links to my video.

and while i’m here i might as well include the link to the one i did in the summer.

Again, i’m looking for feedback, not subscribers, but you can subscribe if you want to.

If you could, answer these questions either here or on my video.

  1. Did you enjoy the video?
  2. Did you feel like it felt like a story rather than a lesson?
  3. Did you find it informative?
  4. Is the editing good enough?
  5. Is the narration good enough/should my friend drop the accent?

That’s all the questions i can think of for now. Please give me your feedback, would greatly appreciate it, thankyou!

Halo Lore: The Spartan III Program Feedback

1. I enjoyed it but I felt it could be better
2. I did feel it was a story on account of how the narrator presented it and your visuals matched up well to give it a more story presence with the words he was saying.
3. It was very informative and it helps when it is presented in more of a story fashion.
4. Visual editing is good. Like the use of the “Ken Burns Effect” but I think it could be used more frequently on more of the stills. There was a moment at 8:26 that there was dead space there and I understand it was used that way for dramatic effect but I feel like 4 seconds of black is a bit too long, I would say 2 would be enough to give me that effect as at the point, I would want to move on. Also there was the pop sound of either the mic turning off from the narrator or the sound file ending which can be cleaned up. Also the overall mixing of the narrator felt to be a little low.

Then at 11:49, you have the music cut off entirely, which you can hear the drop off of the sound clip ending where a fade should be used to ease the ending of the clip. Also this brings up my point I stated previously with dramatic effect. I feel that to have this part have no music just feels awkward with hearing just the narrator and the visuals happening. I think what will really sell is if you have a piece of slow/sad music which you feature in previous parts and because of this, I was expecting this to happen but instead there was nothing which felt there was something missing during this part.

5. Definitely not a fan of the accent which is my biggest problem with the video. While the words are good, the accent doesn’t sell simply because there are moments where he nails it but then drops back into an american accent. It seems to be more of a problem with the R’s as almost every time he says a word with the letter R, it’s not the english R but the american R. I would say just lose the accent because I think the dialogue is strong but the only thing that wrong with it is just the accent.

Good work and will be on the lookout for more lore videos!

Thanks for the feedback
the cutting of of the music was intentional, i did the same thing when it came to discussing surviving spartans in my spartan II video. But i can see what you mean and how keeping music consistent throughout could be better.
And the american accent is something i may ask my friend to drop. In the other video i did, he started off just speaking normally then he put on this american accent. It didn’t bother me that much but i think i will tell him to drop it for future videos.

I would agree. If your friend already has a native english accent, I would use that as it can really make your film unique.
