Good Morning Team,
I’ve read two of the Forerunner Saga books, currently on Silentium at the moment. So since Legends is on Netflix, I started re-watching Origins part 1 and felt really confused about how they explained the short Forerunner story. Im guessing that 343 rewrite that in Crytum released on 2011 and Legends in 2010. For those of you that know more about the lore than I do, Did somebody felt the same way or not? Is halo Legends: Origins still considered Canon?
The anime is inconsistent. To put it lightly, it is canon, but about as far as anybody is willing to reference it.
For example; the suit John uses in Forward unto dawn is modeled on the suit he uses in The package, and that’s pretty much it. I wouldn’t expect much in the way of linking the events of the anime (any of the shorts really) much to the overarching canon. In the case of Origins its really not wise to take it as gospel when you consider that Bungie gave a lot of creative freedom to the studios behind it as more incentive to do it.
Origins is still considered canon, in a way it’s Cortana’s interpretation about the Forerunner and their war against the Flood, based on the knowledge she recolected on Installation 04

Mixed in with her growing rampancy and fragmented data from other sources yes.
Unreliable narrator and all.

Thank goodness for you guys fighting against the spread of misinformation. It amazes me how there are still so many people who are completely ignorant about the canon status of Legends (bar Odd One Out of course). I mean, it’s almost as if Frankie didn’t clarify the issue almost a DECADE ago.

The forerunner saga, took Origins part 1 and almost change it entirely. Thats the point of this thread
Well there is one part that was revealed to be pretty accurate. Least the end story of Halo: Fractures which tied to the forerunner saga.
The end scene of the forerunner sealing armor goes along with Bornstellar-post array fire with his wife and child in another galaxy. He visits the ship they arrived in which has been left alone to nature and seals away his armor. Only difference really for this was that the forerunner wears armor. Bornstellar and his wife left forerunner tech behind and live simply as farmers.

Origins is just a high level summary and missing the ancient human part of the equation.
I don’t think it’s really contradictory however.

Its not, and you guys do know the Forerunner Saga was in production when Origins was being made right? At least Im fairly certain.
The bare bones of it anyway…Greg Bear said he’d been working on it on and off with the help of 343 for YEARS.

Origins was Cortana’s INTERPRETATION of Forerunner history, based on incomplete records found on Alpha Halo, Delta Halo and the Lesser Ark. She might have gotten a tiny bit of information from the Domain, but we all know how damaged it was after the array fired, making anything it revealed unreliable at best. Plus she was fighting the effects of rampancy and possibly logic plague after the Gravemind tortured her.
Now if Cortana had access to the Bornstellar/Chakas Record and Catalog (which she didn’t), then and only then would Origins have followed the plot in the Forerunner trilogy.
