HALO: LAST LIGHT
BY TROY DENNING

> It is 2553, and the three-decade long Covenant War that defined a generation has suddenly drawn to a close. Yet, in the remotest parts of human space, tensions remain that threaten to overflow into another full-scale conflict. Beneath the surface of the planet Gao lies a vast cavern system renowned for its therapeutic effects and rumored miraculous cures. But now Gao natives are turning up brutally murdered down there—violent acts that happen to coincide with the recent arrival of a UNSC research battalion protected by SpartanBlue Team, led by the renowned Spartan-IIFred-104.
> Maverick detective Veta Lopis of the Gao Ministry of Protection is only trying to do her job as the Special Inspector assigned to catch a serial killer—one who is possibly hiding within the Spartan ranks—but she never anticipates the situation spiraling out of control into an all-out crisis. When Gao is revealed to harbor ancient Forerunner technology that could solidify the UNSC’s military supremacy for centuries to come, Insurrection loyalists within the planetary government will do anything—even align with a vicious faction of what remains of the Covenant—to ensure that never happens….[

It comes out September 15.

nice little reference to halo mortal dictata when they mentioned Shaps III and ruins that zav fel glassed as a demo.

Theory/Wouldn’t it be interesting if…

What if the killer or killers are Team Saber? We know Spartan-IIIs are in this story and from the description of the murders themselves, it would appear these people were killed by augmented soldiers. Now there are a few reasons that makes me think Team Saber. One is that we know the UNSC would classify them as MIA for a short time and then declare them KIA with no explanation as to why. This could be the mission where they go MIA and then Blue Team is sent in to find them. If they are responsible for the murders, then perhaps Blue Team is also the reason they’re listed as KIA. Why would Team Saber be murderers you ask? Well we know Gamma Team was given illegal drugs by Kurt which altered their brain chemistry which increased their aggression. They had to take meds to keep their chemistry in check and even Doctor Halsey was concerned about what could happen if they didn’t get those meds. Something could have happened to them in these caves and now they’re in full survivor mode and quick to kill.

You made me a very happy man!

I still can’t believe this is the fourth halo novel that’s being released this year, and there’s still one more on it’s way after this! It’s a great time to be a fiction fan.

I am still think of the UNSC supremacy thing. I initially thought it was some H*Y thing but it seems as if it might refer to the UNSC using the tech to crush the insurrection to the point were the Innies demand covenant help.

I have one issue with your theory, 330 candidates made up gamma company, that’s potential 10% of Spartan IVs that are ticking time bombs, not accounting those that left the military. Insurrectionist Loyalist, Covenant presence… There are to many players. The simplest conclusion often makes a bad detective novel. I hope your wrong and its far more compelling like HTT.

Seem compelling. Surely it’s the logical obvious conclusion.

Yeah. As soon as it was mentioned they were after a Forerunner AI, it seemed pretty clear what was going to happen.

and the miracle cure was actually a:

Huragok

Would those who’ve read it recommend it as a book in and of itself? Not just as a part of the halo universe?

Okay thanks for the info, but I didn’t so much mean whether or not it stands alone. I should’ve been clearer. I meant is it a good quality, well written story? Or should I just read it because it’s halo?
