Halo lacks in one (storyline) aspect. - A short meta-level analysis.

There was a topic over the flood. The OP; may be he was joking (i dunno) but he talked over a “Flood-Lady/Flood Girl”.

Well the idea was funny, sure; but sounded not to dumb, … with a lot of fantasy. So i started to think: why?

Later i figured it out:
Halo realy lacks in one point:
There needs to be a female lady in it.

Not like the marine-women; sure they are funny but that’s not it.
And Cortana lol: As a lot of ppl, i hate cortana. She is annoying and kind of exhausting… … “cortana” was a realy annoying mission in halo 3 for me: MC should only take the index for the halo-ring. But NO: stupid cortana needs to be rescued, too. XD

The daughter of Keyes (dunno her name now) from halo 2 and 3 was the same Yoink! girl like cotrana. Exept one positive aspect: she died 8D. Hoorray. XD


The times are hard around the 26th century; so it is also hard to put a ‘female’ human girl in everything. That simply won´t fit and scratch on the canon.

So yeah, lol. A flood-lady? Dunno if this is the trick. Would create some tension, cuz there would be the question: is she good or evil. And why the yoint the flood is doing something like that now?
(I also think the flood is done with it’s career as dark, unknown enemy. They are cool, so they need to fill new slots now. But that means we need a new, dark and evil enemy now, too. And the flood needs to get new values.)


Well: I think it should be more like: some kind of forerunner lady; a cute one.
She shouldn´t run around with a shotgun or any weapons…, at all: she should be nice… not like the rest of the women in halo (like halo-3-odst: the captain of ONI…lol… … forgot her name, too), or cortana, or the marine-women, etc.pp.
all are very “uncute”. (= noone needs protection).
And this fact seen in the whole story about: defending humankind and so on… meh it feels a bit hollow…

I know iam pushing the stereotype thinking now*(1), but halo realy lacks in this aspect.

Halo is not a total war-game, or a total scifi-shooter. Especially in the first one this aspect wouldn´t fit.
And it is not a hardcore shooter, where things like that won´t fit (like doom for example). Halo is so successful cuz it is not to hard. (Otherwise it will become boring… don’t you think?).
Halo was always a mix:
A mix of tons of good, and different(!) aspects. And this one is missing. ;p
And it is not an unimportant one.

After CE the story was boring and unoriginal (how many times can we save the universe).

If the flood return in Halo 4, I am done with the series forever. I -Yoinking!- hate fighting the flood.

Why? They’re so much fun and so differnt from the Covonant. A real pace changer. If they are in Halo 4 i’ll be extra happy.

I agree, we need a friendly female character that doesn’t fight and is very important.

But I actually like Cortana as a character as well.

So, a NPC that follows you throughout the game, has no weapon and can die? That sounds like a very bad idea from a gameplay perspective. Trying to get Keyes through the end of Truth and Reconciliation without dying was already hard enoug, I wouldn’t want to do the same thing throughout the whole game.

Yea that would be like replacing Cortana, I think it would be better to have to escort the person to a better place because their old place is no longer a logical HQ. Or maybe she needs to activate something and you need to bring her and protect her because she is the only one who can activate it.

The exact problem of these characters is that they are annoying for the player. I have never encountered a game where escorting a character that dies easily and doesn’t even have weapon would have been fun. The problem is, the player can’t protect that character from all direction. Then there is also the fact that the player needs to worry about their own health too.

I’d rather not have a character like this in the game at all. Protecting it is frustrating at best.

Na lol. Not an NPC that follows you or something. That would suck hard.
I thoght only of cutscenes or audio(/video)-transmission.
Like Keyes in Halo 2 or 3.
May be she walks around in an area without enemys or something; like in Halo 3 Mission 2 Keyes was walking there around, too.

I meant with: “not running around with guns”; that she shouldn’t fight. … Neither as NPC nor in Cutszenes.
Because she is friendly; not a warrior. Nice and cute.

Iam not talking over gameplay here at all. Only over storyline/charackter aspects.

but I think we need a totally new character. … To enlarge the whole universe a bit. But iam not sure.

Yay. That’s the funny point.

MC was protecting the whole humankind for so long time; without something like an “observable (subjective) Feedback”. Protecting that forerunner lady (or whoever) will give you a bit of that “Feedback”; even if it is an indirect protection.

I think that is one of the important points that we need her in.
The other one is: we have simply the lack of this female character type.

But I know what you mean. She shouldnt be the center of the whole sotryline. Important… yes… maybe… but not over all campaign levels.
(That would also secure her ‘special’ part.)

Halo was always a mix of different aspects. Especially in campaign.

I had a bit time and thought a bit over this topic again.
I could write around 3 more pages over this topic… but that would be boring. I thought myself: a picture would tell here more than tons of pages.

Iam a realy bad draftsman/painter :stuck_out_tongue: but i tired my best and made a small ‘artwork’.

It shows a cute (forerunner?) missy watching over some sea/lake during a halo ring fires in the firmament.

Cortana needs to go rampant, and then the only way to save the AI is to reintegrate it into a human brain.

Then Cortana will have some lady parts.

I would actually kind of like to see Kelly in a Halo game, she’s nice, not annoying and can kick some a.ss.

AI can survive rampancy, and after they go rampant they do go into a kind of “stable” state. They’re still never quite the same but they can still think and operate at least semi-normally.

Well there are still like 5 rings…so I think we will see alot more of the flood before the end of Halo
