Oh hi! Got your attention didn’t I? Im just going to make a statement. A rather long statement. I was speaking to my friend earlier about his bro who made it clear that if Halo 4 doesnt have a skilled ranking system. He’s returning it the next day. I’m like. Halo isn’t just about the ranking system.
My friend agrees with me. COD is known for its multiplayer. Now tell me, how many people ignore CODs Campaign and how many people ignore Halo’s campaign? Its a huge difference between the two.
Now a question, if you hear that Halo 4 in the next 2 months doesn’t have the ranking system you want or are hoping for, will you cancel your pre-order just for one feature? To me Halo’s, ranking system matters not to me though I am a Halo Veteran and a competitive player. Its the campaign and everything else.
I don’t blindly praise 343. I too want a decent ranking system but Im not basing my judgement of the game or my pre-order status on one feature. Halo may become boring for some people if Halo 4 doesn’t have ranking system they want. Do I really need to say how much total hours I spend in Forge, Custom games and how many times I’ve beaten Halo 3 and the other Halo’s?
TL; DR: Halo has never been known soley its ranking system. Its the story that Halo is known for. Its the gathering of friends and family that Halo is known for. Its meeting new friends that Halo is known for.
halos multiplayer is the main reason though, CE lan parties and then halo 2 being one of the game that practically pioneered and secured XBL thanks to its multiplayer, it got its fame and fortune from its multiplayer not the campaign although the campaign is pretty epic IMO.
edit:
read my other replies, turns out the OP didn’t mean the player vs player aspect but the ranking system.

I know but Halo didnt have a ranking system until Halo 2. Thats what im getting at

but a ranking system doesn’t define the gameplay so when you refer to multiplayer you’re reffering to the player vs player aspect of the game not the ranking system.

This is exactly what the OP is talking about. 1 feature, in this case a ranking system, isn’t the whole of the multiplayer.

oh, he’s saying that halo isn’t known for its mind manipulation tactics? ok then, wasn’t that clear in the post, it doesn’t help when is TL;DR specifically states multiplayer…

I know. I formed my OP around the ranking system in the subject of multiplayer.

then perhaps it would be more clear if you said ranked instead of multiplayer & matchmaking, it really looks as if you’re saying multiplayer in halo means almost nothing

I never said it was a fact and no its not a fact that people get Halo for its multiplayer because then barely anyone would have bought Reach. Halo’s story has never been repetitive. A lot of people have played Halo 1,2 and 3’s campaign multiple times
Halo isn’t all about any specific aspect of the game.
Halo to me, though, is 100% about the multiplayer. I would rather see the game ship without a campaign if it meant the multiplayer gameplay was that of the trilogy.

Don’t accuse people of throwing opinions around as facts and then do the same thing. There are no solid statistics about what aspect of Halo is more popular, and with more and more game modes, to say a specific one is the king is nearly impossible.
There are tons of people who care solely for multiplayer, or solely for the story, or solely for forge, or solely for machinima. There are tons of people who care about a few of these or all of these. But to say one aspect of the game is the reason it’s popular is both pretentious and insulting.
halo started with campaign and splitscreen couch multiplayer and lan party. and that is how halo is meant to be played campaign is everything in halo and we as fans always want to play that first. xbox live was a revolution for halo and started competitive gaming for halo players. its not what the game is all about and shame on whoever gives up on halo for -Yoink- rank system go play your cod halo is one of the most iconic and original games of this century

It is fact that most people get halo mainly for the multiplayer. So your telling me if someone were to get halo mainly for the campaign that the number of campaign players would be higher then people who play multiplayer. That just wouldnt make sense at all. Statistically the players online playing matchmaking show that most are online to play multiplayer. Most players play the campaign for 1 play through and then wait to play it over again. Someone isnt going to play campaign non-stop and thats all they are going to play.
Halo was fameous at first mainly for its story. But since Lan and MM it has been mainly targeted towards its MM because thats where microsoft and 343i make most of their money. They want players to keep coming back to buy new map packs and things. It shocking that you dont think halo has gotten where its at with the multiplayer aspect of the game. Without the multiplayer it wouldnt be nearly as big. common sense man

Why do you think so many people STOPPED playing Reach? Maybe because the multiplayer wasn’t very good…?
No one can say what “true” halo is, people buy the game for different reasons, its all subjective.
