I’m one of the old fogeys who just hates Halo now. It is such a miserable experience. I used to wait in line for midnight releases and be hyped up for months about it coming out. The same went for MCC, until it was actually released. If it weren’t for the Battlefront footage that was just released, I would sell my Xbox 1. Reasons it sucks: 1) TONS of quitters. I just played a BTB and 6 of my team left before the end of the first Territories round. SIX. 2) My entire friends (whom I met playing Halo) have moved to other games 3) maybe 5% of players use a mic 4) “Multiplayer not allowed” BS. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Start a custom game, quit, and go back to MP. It works. Uhh…shouldn’t have to keep doing that. 5) STILL getting disconnected from games.
You guys can bad mouth me all you want, but some of us remember how everything worked, back on the original slow-as-hell Xbox. Such a shame that a 10 year old system and game worked infinitely better in every respect. I’ve tried so hard to be supportive of 343. I really like what you were doing, but enough is enough.
F#$king sick of it. I’m out. No chance I’m buying H5 until WELL after the players have had their hands on it. 343, do yourself a favor and postpone H5 and fix this piece of garbage COMPLETELY. I’ll try you again in six months.
Yeah halo isn’t what it once was that’s for sure. The golden era probably won’t be seen ever again. Gaming, and people are different now. People’s attention spans are declining and people won’t hesitate to just quit anymore so they can get enjoyment in something else. I’m looking forward to battlefront. The footage looked sick.
“Hey 343 you should make the entirely separate team that is working on Halo 5 and has nothing to do with MCC stop working on their game so another team can fix theirs”
I haven’t had any issues as of late. Also some of the stuff on your list has to do with players more than anything. There is simply a different generation of people playing now, who don’t use mics, and don’t stick with the team. I too liked the experience more in the past, but the beats goes on. You just have to deal with it or don’t.

No, It actually makes a lot of sense to me. Once again, 343 is rushing to meet a deadline in a little over 4 months. Do you really think it is going to be super smooth, given the last track record? Seriously? Then, they’ll have TWO bad playing games on their hands. OBVIOUSLY, I’m just guessing, but why wouldn’t I think that after the MCC release.

I think they run BTB on dedicated servers most of the time, that is where i find the most unlaggy games anymore which is weird. Because when I get into a 4v4 match the host is so bad that it takes 6 to 8 shots to kill him while he can 4 shot me in the ankles and I die lol.

I am 38 and understand some of your pain with TMCC. Especially BTB.
BTB must be ranked OR must allow JIP. Otherwise it will remain a miserable experience. Such a shame since its the top playlists I played the last 10+ years. Something needs to change with that playlist.
I guess the good news is backward compatibility is coming so if nothing else, we can go back and play BTB in H3, Reach, or H4. Not sure if it is still ranked in H3 but I know it is in H4. The rank is just hidden. I am pretty sure the rank is also hidden in Reach.
I’m definitely not 16 anymore, but I’ll say this: either enjoy MCC or put it down for a while.
I think having BTB be a non-casual experience is a bad idea. Just a really bad idea.
Honestly, 343 just recently got the idea that a lot of the Halo players out there are casuals. I’m one, for instance.
As for future titles, well, I’ve just decided I’ll buy them later…for half price. Not a bad deal.

I hear ya. I do that most of the time anyway, except for the few I get super excited about. Can’t really afford to do that anymore with such spotty games being released.

exactly!
multiplayer is just 1 part of the awesome halo universe… in fact its probably the least important to me… if multiplayer doesnt work or is not enjoyable anymore, doesnt mean i would give up all the narrative, books, comics, podcasts, cartoons, tv shows, forums, the campaigns, the music etc etc
i pity the ‘halo fans’ who just wanna sit and play slayer BRs and call themselves a halo fan, and tbh, they are the most vocal fans on these forums too…

Sounds like this is an issue with you and other people, not 343i.

Well said, gaming and multiplaying has changed over the years but for me personally as much fun as the old Halo multiplayer was, Halo isn’t Call of Duty, it’s not a game all about the multiplayer with a single player aspect and all the other stuff tacked on as an afterthought. Halo has a kick -Yoink- story, that if you include ODST, Reach and even Halo Wars has a very good overall arching story that is pretty consistent, something that not a lot of developers can stay true too over the span of multiple titles, even more so when another developer takes over.
As for complaining about things, bugs and stuff like the “Multiplayer not avaliable.” And needed to enter private and quit and try again, sure complain about that because that’s an issue they need to fix but players qutting is not a developer or even a game issue, that’s a player issue, in which case all 343 could do is either ban them all, penalise them for quitting or stopping people from quitting games altogether and even then that wouldn’t because all people would have to do is turn off their Xbox and turn it back on again.

“Done&Done”, “I’ll try you again in six months.” So which is it? You say you are an old fogey, but you still contradict yourself like a young one. This game has been beyond frustrating and disheartening I will give you that, but having your title totally contradict the body of your post doesn’t help your argument. What is truely disappointing is that you contributed so little to these forums, although you have played a ton of Halo.
I must admit that I felt like you quite a few times, and I have even posted a couple of times that I wasn’t going to pre-order and only buy used copies of Halo 5. Well little things have changed here and there that have caused me to change my mind on both of those. I am sticking around. Maybe it’s ridiculous, but I just can’t help it. I am a Haloholic. I can’t get enough just one more game. Everyday I say I will just play for a little bit, and then a few hours go by. I still find ways to stay engaged with Halo. I am lucky I have the time and means.
Oh, and Reach didn’t have hidden ranks. There was the Arena playlist that was ranked, and the Cr ranking system, but that’s it. It will be interesting to see if they make all the other Halo’s backwards compatible. I am looking forward to playing Reach on the One!
